i could not have a big new kids on the block pin, or wear any new kids on the block pins in puplic becuase it was considered idolatry.
i also could not wear my shoes without laces (it was cool back then) because it looked wordly.
what other strange theings besides the usual holiday/birthday stuff weren't you allowed to do?
There were two things my mother would not let me have. 'Water', because if it would rot your shoes just think what it would do to your stomach! And, 'Salt' because if it would rust out your car, just think what that would also do to your stomach!

some have said it's because they do not want you looking out and daydreaming.
others have said it slows down the two day quick build miracles by at least an hour.. my mother may have hit in on the head when she said, "when the time comes it will be easier for them to 'gas' you!.

when i was a good ole jw, going out in service, counting my 'time', i noticed something strange.. i could drive to one side of the county, make a back-call, and then drive clear through town as slow as i could and then out of town to the other side of the county to make another back-call.
the total time it took to do this was about 6 minutes.. if i was not out in service and was trying to rush, say to a movie, it took at least 45 minutes to get through town alone!
what causes this phenomenon?.

we sent those letters to 43 folks/couples on monday.
we have begun receiving replies.
Now, you planted the seed, let God make it grow. Don't dig it up every so often to see how it is, leave it alone and let it grow. Go on with life, answer kindly those who inquire but remember, You did your part.

The timing of letters to the congregation is always important! You want them to have it, and been able to read and digest it before the next meeting, when they will be warned.
