I am sitting here reading with grateful heart and streaming tears! You have blessed so many, so often, on this board and, I'm sure, elsewhere in your life. I am SO pleased to hear that the transplant is a resounding success! I look forward to the day when I can raise a glass with you in person. Tonight I'm celebrating the end of radiation treatment (delayed a bit, actually, into next week) with the other ex-JWs at Meetup. We'll hoist a glass in your honor, Ian.

But how do I know what is true...versus believing something I could be wrong about...or misleading myself?
This is something I used to worry about all the time. Now that I'm 5 years out of the organization, I tend to be much more relaxed about this. I believe that LOVE is true. I also believe that there's not much chance of misinterpreting Jesus' admonition to love God and to love one's neighbor as oneself. Personally, my way of doing that is to recognize that there is a Creator God/dess and to try to practice being loving in my daily life. Everything else, to my way of thinking, is just "extra" stuff. Another good way to live is to try to practice the "do no harm" tenet of physicians. Living up to these ideals is not easy, but I think the attempt is certainly worthwhile.

I grew up with only one grandparent, and he was retired in Denmark and only came to visit us infrequently over the years. However, my parents gave us lots of love (I was the only JW sucker in my family) as kids and I don't think we really suffered from not having Grandmas and Grandpas around. They're a bonus, yes, if they're nice and loving, but not a necessity for the well-being of your little "creature."
I remember many posts describing your difficult parents. Kill-joys, yes. Don't let their negativity rob you of the joy and wonder of parenthood. You and Mrs. Nos know how to behave, how to provide, and you know what you want for Baby Nos. I'm sure you will be thoughtful, caring and supportive parents. Which is all a child can ask.

i remember the other day, someone i'd been friends with for ages asked me if i was an apostate and saw me as an evil influence.
he spoke of what goes on at these sites (as my mum does and other dubs) not realising its just like anywhere, good folks and not good folks.. you ever had a dub scared of ya?

Yeah, I have one ex-JW scared of me. My former PO's 20-something son who thinks I'm completely bonkers because I dared to deliver the British elder letter (regarding how "known child molesters" are/are not to be "used" by the organization) to him and to everyone else in my former congregation whose address I knew. He, himself, has been DF'd and shunned and then gone back to the Borg at least once, perhaps twice, and is quite the ladies man -- married now, but still a flirt if not a cheat. But I'm to be feared because I was concerned that pedophiles find the JW organization to be a "city of refuge" in most cases.

i really can't believe it, but i made it throught the 5k, running the whole time, and no stopping.

a good friend of mine is a former jw.
she is married to an active jw and her children are still jws.
her husband has demanded that they discuss why she is no longer willing to go to meetings, etc... she is wondering what subject would be the best to approach him with first.

When you first began researching yourself, did you find yourself being an apologist for JW beliefs? I did. But the more I researched, the more I realized that the doctrines/assertions didn't add up. If you think you have the 1919 stuff down pat and can explain your doubts using Society literature, you might challenge your husband to become the Watchtower apologist and disprove your allegations. I truly think giving HIM something to research is the best way. You can ask him to get back to you next weekend with what he's found.

my grandmother passed away in december of this past year.
she believed that all religions were full of false teachings, therefor at times turning to supernatural beliefs.
she believed in ghosts, life after death, etc... anywho, i had a dream a couple weeks ago, very vivid, and we were riding in an old truck down a dirt road with corn growing on both sides.

I believe in visits from the dead during dreams and when in meditative states. I sometimes have olfactory (sense of smell) experiences that I associate with dead loved ones. Recently I saw my dead Aunt's face just before falling asleep. My mother was with her, but somehow it was my aunt who was significant. I am very close with her daughter whose lymphoma has metastisized. I felt my aunt was telling me that she is waiting for my cousin. I finally reached my cousin yesterday and she tells me that she has yet another tumor and in a different location. While they will try to shrink it with radiation, she is definitely dying. She's already lived years longer than originally predicted, but now she is losing the battle. It's sad, and yet, she, too, believes in life after death and is comforted at the thought of living on with the ones who have already passed over into the Light.
I hope your grandmother decides to visit again, if you'd like her to.
