Why are "Born-Agains" distancing themselves from the term "born-again"?
by booker-t ini remember in the 80's all you would ever hear was "i am a born-again christian" or "i am born-again" or jesus, jesus, jesus.
every other word was jesus.
now in the year 2007 born-agains seem to run away from the term "born-again".

what really amazes me is how Christians especially on this website, are constantly condemning JW's for doing similar things
You're not comparing like for like; the dubs will answer as they do because they deny heaven to most of their members, whereas all christians have a heavenly hope.
I guess that for your argument to to be true, you'd need to show that christians amongst themselves use the term but deny it to 'outsiders'. However, that's not my experience. In all my time at christian conventions, meetings, study groups and the rest, I don't recall it being used.

Can/Should someone be in love with more than one person?
by AK - Jeff innot a question that affects me personally - i am dutifully bound to a single woman now for 33 years [omg that is 1/3 of a century already].. but do you believe that it is possible or profitalble to fall in love with more than one person at the same time?
in western culture it is normally considered 'betrayal' to do such a thing - but thoughout history and in cultures outside of the west today - it is considered acceptable, even normal.. typically it is the man who has more love interests than just one - not the woman - but some cultures have supported multiple partners for women also.
this is not a thread about judging others - just an inquiry about opinion.

Is it possible to love more than one? I s'pose so, but I don't believe it can be a case of "is it possible to love more than one equally at the same time"?
I believe, and don't ask me how I would know, that it's more likely that 'the person' is in love with an ideal, or in love with love itself. I notice the question was "in love with" rather than "love".
In short, we call it "mid life crisis".

by MUNKAFATS inwe all have different talents etc and as ive never been a witness just read their books why is it that we have 3 kids and our youngest has a gifted mathmatical mind (teacher says hes in the top %2 of the population at 5 years old ) .
would the jw then say this is from satan ?
and if not then why could he not use it to his greater good , my question isnt about jw doctrine , i just think about this when jw come to visit me as its got to be from somewhere ??

they way im seeing it is that jw seem to teach only honesty which i dont see as being a bad thing at all so why are some of you on here using **** this and **** that or im going to do some fornication now blah blah blah , i dont mean to be offensive at ALL but some of you say you are christian???? or is it that you have been repressed for to long ? help me as i feel stuck in the middle , dont know what to do

well ive found my old (ex) jw friend
by MUNKAFATS inive been looking for her for ages , when we were at school she was a jw and so nice , then when i was about 26 i bumped into her again and i didnt like what i saw , i asked her what happened and she said she had found drugs , that was the last time i saw her (i was very dissappointed),anyway she then dissappeared again so i assumed she had gone back to being a jw , but ive found her this morning(im 38 now) , ive spoken to her and she says that she still believes but doesnt go to meetings etc but that her parents are still in although her parents still have just as much contact with her, i brought up this disassociating thing with her and she said her parents wouldnt do that as they love her to much .
i also spoke to her about this site and others , she says she never really thought about sites like this one , i got the feeling she doesnt want to know or is to scared to find out more although she says the only reason that she left the "truth" was because she hit puberty , all in all she only had good things to say to me about the org and that she had some really great times but that she believes you dont have to be in to be saved , im glad ive found her as we have traded numbers and will keep in touch , im not a jw but was just reading their books (not actually having a formal bible study) and it will be great to talk to someone who has seen both sides , its more personal as ive never been good a letters

W-e-l-l, I wouldn't normally comment on what is a domestic issue and being one of the downunder mob I'm not in a position, nor is it 'polite' for me to comment, but there is a line where I am involved, (I guess I'm included in "the rest of the world") so I can!
How about the complete religious, social and political
freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the
world?I would challenge that statement i.e. that freedom in the U.S. is "the envy of everyone in the world"; in fact, I'd go further and say that apart from being a generalisation, it's also 'wide of the mark'. Certainly downunder I doubt that most of us view the USA as being much to envy, why, we are the "lucky country"!! Certainly amongst the people from many other cultures that i regularly deal with, the USA is not viewed as being envied; for many of them, quite the opposite.
I'm not meaning to be on one of those "knock the USA" themes that we've had on JWD but simply want to point out that we all need to look at ourselves realistically and humbly and see wherein we can improve - not least at a national level.
