I've read the book ON BULLSHIT It's interesting but I needed to have a dictionary at hand. Another book I'd recommend along these lines is C.Sagan's Demon haunted World Both of these books really help define the crap that makes people accept unreal statements as proven fact. There was also a recent article in the Washington Post about workers in Chinese factories. They cannot imagine why Americans buy such useless junk that they produce (salad shooters and that stuff). bullshit is even worse than lying because it gets cloaked in psuedo science with slick phrasing and unreal claims, but the victims think --- well they said it on TV so it must be real.Lying. Nobody likes to be lied to, ever. I'm not a good liar because I end up laughing. I admit though that I've tried to lie. Now I am a good enough friend to say I don't like an outfit on a person... but more often I'm saying how terriffic someone looks.
My mother had a saying " You can never trust a liar but you can always trust a thief because you always know what a thief will do."

Disempowerment of women WTBS use of that woman Jezebel analogy
by cyborg injust wondering if anyone has had similar experience.
i could swallow the fact that only men were given main parts at the meeting (i wouldnt want them anyway) but that im humiliated every time i tried to give opinion or make a suggestion, is just beyond me.
in fact if i was even mildly persistent to make them see my point of view id be presented with that woman jezebel analogy.

What a terrific post! I've read some about this and the obvious hatred toward women with power in the Bible. In ancient times before the whole sperm egg thing was known; children belonged to their mother, grandmother and mothers brothers were the closest male relative. Women were feared for their procreative abilities. AND you always knew who your mother was, but not always your father. So men started the whole thing about menstruation being dirty (when before it was magical and proved womens power) --- It was called the wise blood at menapause. Men often performed ritual cutting in order to emulate the menstruating female ... circumcision is one such practice.
A closer evidence (in time to us) would be native Americans. Especially in the East the Iroquoi had descisions of hunting and property (semi-permanent) were made by women. The English and Dutch intruders just never got it, so trouble all around. And the children belonged to mothers and grandmothers. Magic was for women because they could produce life (have babies). They could also bleed for several days during certain times of the moon and not die! Truly a thing to wonder at when men were killed by losing less blood in battles. BTW most War rituals were performed by men.
So Jezebel was a woman of business, real estate and wealth (probably the reasons her husband married her to begin with) and some hairy old smelly prophet of an evil male god says throw her down. Oh please so to show this guy has power over women... Was this the same prophet who called a she bear to eat some kids because they called him "old baldy" oh maybe not I think the other guy was hairy.

Them thinking that pioneering is equal to my full time job!
by LongHairGal inthis was a topic that annoyed me and i got into a bit of an argument years ago over this.. some sister (who never worked a day in her life i might add) with the cushy life, affluent husband thought that because she pioneered it was equal to me having a full time secular job.
there were others there who naively thought the same thing.
somehow i gave them an inferiority complex because i worked so they had to dream this up to make themselves feel better.. while i agree that someone who pioneers may be physically tired at the end of the day, there is no comparison to what i have to deal with in going to and from and being on a full time job.

First Post
by 5thGeneration insome things confuse me here.
i am in the same position as many where i don't agree with so much the society says and feel stuck dragging myself to the meetings and then feel incredible guilt because the study for the day says it is wrong to have any doubts "even in private".
impossible for me!.

Dear 5th welcome to the board! I have found some great thinkers and some great ballbusters on this JWD thang. What caught my eye with your situation is your wifes illness. I've had chronic urticaria since 1999. It's an auto immune disorder and hell to live with. I hope your sweetie will find some relief. I knew several young witness guys who had vasectemies (sp?). My husband was even an elder at the time and hs told him (a brother) there was no problem. And one big reason to question the WTBTS is the changing views on medical procedures. BTW... how about all those sisters getting boob jobs(doesn't that have some reproductive involvement?) and face lifts? Oh and liposuction...In SanAntonio and New Braunfels there are SEVERAL... California too heck probably everywhere.
