Just so everyone knows My statement was by no means making light of the situation. I saw this on the news this morning and never thought twice about who it was. It was only later today that I got a call from someone and they said "Did you hear about the car going over the bridge in Geneva yesterday?" I said "yep". Then they said "well guess who it was....I hope the media doesn't say anything about her being a witness". I thought to myself how crappy a comment it was, that all they were concerned about was, not anyone finding out that she was a witness. I realy didn't know this woman well, other than she had a disabled daugther. It was years and years ago that I saw either of them.

Mom charged in disabled daughter’s killing
By James Kimberly
ChicagoTribune staff reporter
Published April 4, 2006, 5:06 PM CDT A 57-year-old west suburban resident was charged today with two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her adult daughter, whose body was found Monday after the mother crashed the car they were riding in.
Betty C. Whitten, 57, was charged in the death of her 34-year-old daughter, Nyakiambia Whitten, who lived with her parents on the 42W500 block of Hawk Circle in unincorporated Kane County, near St. Charles, authorities said.
Kane County Judge Robert L. Janes ordered Whitten held in lieu of $2 million bail in the county jail. The defendant is to make an initial court appearance Wednesday morning.
"She is remorseful and emotional" and on suicide watch, Kane County Sheriff Kenneth Ramsey said.
Ramsey declined to say what motivated the alleged killing but noted the daughter had cerebral palsy and was developmentally disabled, and that the mother was under stress from caring for her daughter and from her life.
"Reviewing the totality of the circumstances, this was a tragic family situation," Ramsey said.
Betty Whitten's husband, Earstin Whitten, said in an interview with the Tribune that his slain daughter was "an innocent, loving, caring person."
He said he does not know what happened between his wife and his daughter.
"I would like to know why this happened. I would like to see my wife get whatever assistance she needs to become whole," he said.
The police investigation began late Monday morning, when Betty Whitten allegedly fled from a police traffic stop and drove her gray four-door 2002 Hyundai off a bridge embankment at the Fox River in downtown St. Charles.
The car came to rest upside-down on a walking path. Emergency responders extricated Whitten and her daughter from the vehicle and found the younger woman had been stabbed multiple times, including once in the chest. She was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva, where she was pronounced dead.
The mother sustained a cut on her head and also was taken to Delnor-Community, where she was treated and then released to authorities. -

Thanksgiving...I remember when I was told that JW's didn't celebrate thanksgiving. I remember when I was a kid that, that was the day for our entire witness family to get together. I was told everyone was off of work and turkey was cheap and it's a great excuse for everyone to get together. But we weren?t celebrating. After I decided to leave, thanksgiving was spent with my girlfriend?s family. It was no different than any other thanksgiving I attended in the past. We weren?t sacrificing a turkey to some other god. We were just getting together. I now called it "celebrating thanksgiving". Today my JW family is getting together at an uncles house just to get together, because everyone is off of work and, the turkeys cheap. Also today, that old girlfriends (now my wife of 15 years) family will be coming to my house to celebrate thanksgiving, because everyone is off of work, the turkeys cheap and it's a great excuse for everyone to get together. The only difference is, is that I acknowledge what I?m doing, and I'm not looking down on anyone today for getting together with family, for this most excellent family holiday.
To those not able to get together with family or friends today. Just remember your not alone. Many today may feel that there isn't anyone there for them. Dont feel that way, it's just a matter of time til that feeling will go away. THE BEST OF TIMES, AND LIFE ARE CLOSE. My thoughts are with you and many others today.
Happy Turkey Day

I Got My First Virgin
by Skimmer intoday i got my first virgin mobile cell phone.
(what, were you thinking of something else?
) and i must say that it's an improvement over the general experience i've had during the last ten years of various plans from a traditional, big-name provider and the three crappy big-name cell phones that they sold to me.

I have to laugh at this subject. Today I was with my boss when he got a call from our cell provider saying that the bill hadn't been paid (our office help is outta town). He asks if he can pay with a creidt card, and they say yes. He asks how much, and thats when the doodoo starts to fly. HOW MUCH!!!HOW MUCH!!! 2 cell phones his and mine, 1 month...$958.00. Our 2 plans together are only supposed to be $198.00 per month. His plan is 1400 mins and free nights and weekends, mine is 900 min and free nights and weekends. He went over by 1200 mins, mine went over 700 mins. And those overages were only at $0.40 per minuite. I'll do the math for you ( 1900 x .40 = $760.00). Well needless to say, I was on the landline phone within an hour, and our new nextels are on the way. I went to the office to see if I could find the bill from the last month, so I could look at it. I didn't find it but, I did find the most current bill that was delivered yesterday. He was only over by 1000 mins, and I was only over by 400 mins. So at least this bill wont be so bad.... $758.00... OUCH. It's nice not to be the boss once in a while.

I have a cousin that goes to that hall. I'm getting updates almost daily. I'll try and post them here.
Heres todays: I had a chance to visit our burned out KH and it is a mess. Whoever did it torched the front door area and the doors were completely distroyed. The whole front entrance area was burnt along with the library and all the books. The fire distroyed 1/4 of the roof on one side of the building. Since we had 4 roof top A/C units on the roof it look like three can be reused. The brothers were able to salvage some of the chairs and the files that were in an area opposite the fire. There was heavy smoke damage but they were able to recover all important papers. The RBC was at the KH the next day and recommended to completely remove the whole building and start new. The adjoining congregations opened there doors so we have places to meet. Since 4 congregations were meeting in the hall, we were the largest congregation so we will completely move our meetings to a different KH temporarily. The other congregations will be absorbed into other congregations for the time being. The RBC expects to have the new building done and complete in 2 months. It's a good goal, so we will see if that happens. Due to delivery of some items, I expect the building to be completed between 2-3 months. Once they clear the building it is possible that we will need to install a new concrete slab. The existing slab has a large crack down the middle so I have been told but that was repaired years ago. We will need new concrete slab for the addition we had proposed to add on but the RBC was having us wait because there are too many KH's that are need in the Phoenix area. Besides BS, the growth in Phoenix is 3500 a month moving in. We are now the 5 largest city in the United States. We exceeded San Diago 2 years ago. So now we are top priority on the RBC's list, all work including the proposed addition will we done at the same time. The Society had us open a seperate bank account and money will be transfered into that account.
