when the borg sent their henchmen to tell us that they'd taken our children from us, they weren't kidding.
so life now is a mix of ups and downs.
this week has been all of those, often within the same hour!

life is tough regardless of whether we were ever jws.
my own life has taken some twists and turns i did not expect or like ... and i have to focus all my attention now on getting my badly needed open-heart surgery or face death in about six months ... so in the next couple of days, i am making the last of three posts for a while ... then all my efforts will be aimed at getting better, and facing some issues in my life and making the best decisions possible for me and my family.
i decided to limit many activities because i tend to do too much and neglect some things that i should not ... this is not a good-bye post, but more of a long vacation post.
I hope your surgery goes well. And I am very much looking forward to your upcoming mini-series. This one should really be interesting Particularly your thoughts on the exJW community. The 'culture' facinates, intrigues and aggravates me all at the same time .

just heard on the news the spanish navy got a tip from us intelligence and with that info seized a north koran ship loaded with 12 scud missiles on its way to yemen, with a final destination of iraq or iran.
look like bush called it correctly, an axis of evil indeed.. .

when i decided to stop going meetings, i text sister who was a good friend, and told her that i wasnt continuing with meetings and the reason why, because of child abuse policy etc.
i asked her if she would like to stay in touch.
she said that even though she agreed with me, she's 'not one to keep in contact, and i'm not one to judge either'.
LOL@sleepy... I thought of doing the same thing but I'm going to take a ride with my best friends down route 66.
Damn flies on the windscreen.. I just can't get enough..

there have been many postings regarding the possible war with iraq.
there are many strong apposing views, as to be expected.. i personally am going to thank all those who are in the military; my hat is off to you, and i respect what you do, and i am very thankful.
you are the ones that must go out there and defend our freedoms.. i don't think most people desire war, but sometimes there seems to be little choice.
I just wanted to thank those that replied for their comments. I think if the unfortunate happens and u end up in some foreign land shot full of holes bleeding to death, at that moment a man sees beyond the propaganda and politics and wonders whether it was all worth it. You know, that moment of clarity when one's life flashes before their eyes...
You see, if it was truly for freedom for everyone back home, or if it was just so that they can put cheep gas in their cars and get to work it makes all the difference.
Every man or woman that dies as a soldier is loved by someone and every human life that is taken before its time is precious. Whether you are an american being shipped to some Vietnam to die for god knows what or you are on the other side being burned to death, in the end you will just be a number or a vote to the politicians. But to some husband or wife or child back home your life is worth more than politics.
In the end we all want to make our life and our death count.

if a great change is difficult to quantify, it can pass unnoticed.
the greatest defeat.
the watchtower has suffered to date falls into this category.
Some hardcore posts in this thread..
This sort of reminded me when a PO implied to one of those in my circle of friends that are not attending meetings that we should not be having unauthorized private scriptural discussions... to which my friend responded "would you rather us discuss hockey instead of the Bible"?
You see, the Society just prefers people to just nod their head at whatever appears in the WT and u can answer from the paragraph, but heaven forbid u discussed JW beliefs or the scriptures privately. It is too bad because so many JW men think the Society is full of answers to all these doctrinal dillemmas, but when u ask them certain questions they have no answers and just blacklist u as an "apostate".
I really don't know how long people will keep falling for this.

I think soldiers do a nasty job that not alot of people would want to do. There are times when war is necessary.
I would assume a good soldier is a man that follows orders well and does not question and that is a mentality that will never sit well with me. To kill when ordered to without having the luxury of reason is something I personally could never conscientiously subject myself to.
I think soldiers are often the pawns of men that live in ivory towers. Soldiers on every side are just doing what they are told and are buying into the propaganda of their leaders that are safe in some bunker somewhere. One can glorify war and the men that die, and there are times if it should come down to it that this is an honorable death. But I think too many times too many men and women and children are dying needlessly and all the patriotic bullshit will not bring them back.

why is it that jw`s get `hooked` into the latest multi-level marketing ploys
Few people have the massive social connections that JW's have, or the presumed trust of each other solely on the basis that they carry the JW label. I also think many of these scams appeal to those with limited incomes that also are greedy and want a quick buck with little work and no education. This also fits many JW's.
The "get by" work ethic of the Society along with their "all u need is a high school education and Jehovah will provide" philosophy left many in a bad situation as the world changed and became more complex and the workplace demanded more. Sad to see JW's preying on each other with these sorts of scams just to get by and in the end, most are worse off anyway.

so the person i call mom continues to baffle me.
anyone who has paid any attention to what i write and ramble on about here knows my relationship with my dearest mother is strained to say the least.
we always have lulls in our battles but invariably something will come up to send us off in a tailspin of fighting and arguing.
Hey Joanna,
I sort of relate to what you were saying. I tended to get compliments from anywhere but my parents. Everytime the phone rang and it was them, it was always some criticism or lecture.
So when we didn't see eye to eye on the "truth" thing, I never hung off them trying to have a relationship with them. That would only give them a sick power over me so I just moved on.
It is very important for all of us to feel good about ourselves from the inside out. We can't let people, things and the world around us dictate our happiness and self-worth. But to some degree externals do affect us so for me it is best to dispense with people that try to bring me down and surround myself with those that share a mutual respect for the dignity of others. And then there are those times that you will have to be comfortable all by yourself.
In this world there are always people seeking to get the upper hand on you and control you. But it only is that way when you let them.
Joanna, you will be a good teacher. Love your students and remember the cool teachers you had over the years and learn from the mistakes of the ones you didn't like.

at least the german edition of "our kingdom ministry" says that new literature is no longer announced in the km.
instead there will be a letter from the society that is read and shown at the announcement board.. maybe they want to use the space in the km for other things.
or they just want keep those informed that attend meetings.
Perhaps they are trying to limit special order requests to encourage congregations to use up what stock they have onhand? This would discourage people from ordering more expensive publications and help the Society get rid of old literature, thus stretching their resources. Sounds like more cost-cutting to me.
