Hi Pom,
I have never run across your line of reasoning before. There is a certain logic to it. Thanks for the explanation.
Pat
i've been doing a little research into a pharoah named akhenaten.
been coming up with some variances in dates and would like to know if anyone else has run across this info.. akhenaten (amenhotep iv) reigned 1379-1362 bc.
according to 'the bible timeline' moses was born in 1355 bc, right after akhenaten.

Hey Waiting!
You are perfectly correct! Why didn't I think of that?? Duh! Except why have others made the link too? It's interesting to think, did Abraham et al really believe in only one god? I'm going to cogitate on that . . .
Expatbrit,
Great information. Boy, when you say you'll deliver, you mean it! Where do you get this stuff??? I am IMPRESSED. I was thinking that maybe the WT too favored the dating that put this pharoah and Moses far apart. I liked the author's take on them possibly being boyhood friends. Will take me a while to ruminate on it.
Seven,
Thanks for the site--I'll be exploring it. It seems really helpful.
Pomegrante,
You've been gone for awhile, huh? Haven't seen your posts. You always have interesting comments. But isn't it a given that Moses promoted monotheism? "Listen, Oh Israel, your God Jehovah is one God..." I can't locate the verse and frankly my days of that are pretty mch over.
Thanks all. That is much cleared up now. Monotheism seems to be way before Moses' time. But still may be something to it.
"day one" is a story written by a jehovah's witness about what things.
might be like the day after armageddon.. this example of theocratic fiction has been around for quite a while.. but some may not be aware of it.. you can read it at this address:.

Hi VM44,
Thanks for the link. I read the 2nd one also. LOL. The first one is so shopworn, just bits and pieces from the mags. But it should have begun 'Once upon a time . . .' because it's a fairy tale.

Jayhawk,
Someone at work brought up his name as the 1st monotheist, etc. I then entered his name on search on the web and found several sites about him. It seems there have been several attempts in the past to link him to Moses.
Expatbrit,
Thanks. Talk to ya tomorrow. It wasn't apparent why there was such a discrepancy between the WT dates and the other sources.

Another point about this pharoah is that he may have been the 'founder' of the Hebrew theology, at least the part about one god. This seems astounding to me. Just think, Moses grew up around the palace and there may have been some followers of Ahkenaten's religion. Moses really took it to heart and prefered that too. Then, he finds out he's a Hebrew. He decides that's the right way of worshipping is to have one god.
Sigmund Freud believed Moses WAS Akenaten, but that's just an aside.
Any ideas? Rebuttals?

some of you may have already made a post about this but i have decided to post the following anyway.. the booklet - how can blood save your life?
(copyright 2000).
part 2 - bloodvital for life.
Hawk, Max, Waiting,
This is all great information. I'm printing it all out and saving it. Waiting, that was such a good point about the avg jw saying it was waaay to complicated and that they would just say 'no blood' period.
That prompted me to talk to my 2 jw sons to urge them to look into it more and not just say 'no blood.' Especially for their children.
I also warned them the Durable Power of Attorney has a clause in it that says it cannot be revoked orally. So once you're in the hospital, you may be in real trouble.
Thanks for this critical information.

in the late 70's, i began experiencing health problems.
the elders wanted to know if i purchased anything new, thinking i was under demon attack.
the only thing new in our household was a kitten.
M-m-m-m.
That's all I have to say about that.

just a couple of quick questions, the first directed at exjws - could you ever see any reason for you to return to the organisation?
what would have to happen for you to return?
under what circumstances would you ever go back?
No, nothing.
But this thread and the posts made me think that if there WERE a god, why wouldn't he directly communicate or make it clear beyond a doubt (as Jesus did for Thomas) to honest, sincere people who just CANNOT believe it? Is that a reason to condemn someone because they can't believe something for which there is no proof? Would any reasonable human be that way? Is that justice? No.
I've got to get off my soap box now . . .

i've received numerous questions asking for documentation of issues raised on this board.
some threads have gems that get developed, then buried, and someone raises the same question.
cd roms whirr.. for some ray franz is more than sufficient, others also enjoy the perspective of "apocalypse delayed" by trained historian james penton, which was vital to me personally.
Hi Maximus,
Thanks for the update--we'll be looking forward to it.
Larc, what an excellent idea. I will be requesting those books next time I go. Thanks.

Hi Wendy,
Interesting thread with lotsa different comments.
As I am coming around to a realization that there may be no god and evolution may be the cause of all the life, it is a comfort to me. Ironically, to know there is no 'justice' to be found, no supernatural help, and no one to set things right someday. That is, of course, except the humans who often work very hard trying to protect society and mete out justice.
It is a great tragedy to see ones we love suffer. But to me, it's a comfort to just say 'what is, is.' All living things on earth have come and gone and that's the way it is. We laugh, we cry, etc. To me, it helps put things in perspective.
Not that I'm trivializing your or anyone else's pain. But it seems enormously more grievous to wait endlessly on divine intervention that never comes. It's tragic to put your hopes and trust in unreality. Didn't Paul say that if in this life only we have trusted in God, we are MOST to be pitied among men?
Who feels better NOT being in control and leaving it all up to something for which there is dubious evidence
