Big Jim,
Liked your thoughts.

did you ever read in the scriptures where christ told his followers to meet at a certain time to go and witness?.
did you ever hear christ tell his followers to count there time?.
better yet did christ ever have regular meetings to attend?.

just got this from a mailing list.
enjoy.. "reasoning with the sisters".
a new publication is now available.
RHW,
That was hilarious! I think I'll give it to my strait-laced single jw son. It was great. Thanks!

when god banished cain, why was he in fear of his life when there was only he and his family on the earth?
after all, how many could there have been and is it logical to think they were everywhere else--anywhere else but where cain and his family lived?
so, who was he afraid of that would take his life?.
Pom,
So, Cain would have been slain by a brother or a sister? Maybe, because he killed his brother. No, I don't think C & A were the only ones. All JWs know Cain married his sister if the Bible account is true. Maybe he was fearful of revenge.
But it doesn't explain how the Sumerians had a similar myth before the Hebrews wrote their Bible.

Also, why would God give him a mark of protection when he was a murderer?
According to some scholars this was a borrowed Sumerian myth representing a feud between farmers and herders. In the Sumerian myth, there was no actual killing.

the watchtower society has long-established habits of half-truths,.
misquotations, and deception.
the subject of the flag-salute is.

Thanks for that info. What continues to amaze me is how it all falls like a house of cards, once one is willing to open their mind.

i was tempted to write the wtbs today.
i'm reading a loaned copy (from my younger sister, 'waiting') of ray franz's "in search of christian freedom.
" it is a masterful point-by-point refutation of the wts doctrine.
Hi Farkel,
I can't believe how your statement resonated in me! I used to think that very thing (blush!) when I'd read about a scientific discovery that undermined the Bible and supported evolution. I'd think 'well, I'll wait until the WT does an article on it.'
Most of the time in the past 5 or so years, they haven't been doing as much on it.
Didn't even realize that's what I did!

"If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving."
i don't know if this has ever been brought out - i just thought of it:.
the bible tells us that it rained for forty days and forty nights.. it stopped raining and noah & co floated around for a bit.. when they landed, noah sacrificed some of the animals (weren't they in short supply?
) and god promised never to bring a deluge upon then earth again.. to back this up, there was a rainbow in the sky as a sign.. now, what causes a rainbow?
Jeremy,
Please tell me where I can read AlanF's writings on the flood. Thanks.
Pat
NikL,
Thanks for going to all the trouble to share that. It's the epitome of JWs REAL beliefs. It's a keeper!

P.S. And what a coincidence. This morning I was reading Steven Covey's book about 7 Effective Habits and ran across the word 'charity.' It struck me as old-fashioned as I was raised a Catholic and they used it a lot. The reason it was old-fashioned (to me) is that the WTBS NEVER uses it nor practices it, as is pointed out in your script. They even delete it, I believe, from the NW translation at 1Cor 13 about 'faith, hope, & charity/love'?
There is nothing organizationally set up to help anyone.
How is pestering people peddling magazines showing love/charity???
How perverted is the WTS.
Thought for the day: 'Never squat with spurs on.'

the elders keep dropping by every couple of saturday's after bookstudy to check on us and try to encourage us back to meetings.
it has worked out that my husband has been gone when they visit so they keep coming back hoping to catch him sometime.
anyway, i told my hubby that we should at least go to the meetings once a week to keep them off our trail, which i went this past thursday night and wouldn't you know it the one elder approached me and mentioned that they still want to sit down with us and go over an article on meeting attendance.
Orange Blossom, There is excellent advice in here. Thanks for bringing it up as I'm in a similar boat. It's like hiding from the Gestapo or KGB, huh?
Enlightened, I'm following your advice. Not rocking the boat. I've been contacted twice now. I have the benefit (?) of having had cancer 2 years ago and have residual health problems that keep me home a lot. That has been my main excuse. Plus, I have a very sick daughter and have had her two boys with me for 2 months. With these two hinderances, I don't see how anyone could rightfully think I should be active.
I left only 3 months ago. But the above is 'my story and I'm sticking with it.'
Actually, I'm much better than that and do work full-time. "Happiness walks on busy feet."
Francoise2, I agree with you in principle and really am wanting to do as you advise. Except for my 2 sons and 4 grandkids 'in.'
Thirdson, your advice is really good. I feel so moved at times to tell them what I REALLY think, but know this is the wrong course. In this case, being
"as cautious as serpents" certainly is helpful.
At least we know, thanks to Simon and this board, and the rest of the net, we are not alone!

i'm in dire need of help (no snickers at this point) in dealing with a probate judge.
she believes she's a blond judge judy.. i have legal guardianship/conservator for my aunt who has alzheimer's and is in a first stage (lowest degree) nursing/care home.
as conservator, by law, i am allowed 5% of my aunt's finances to take care of her finances.
Waiting,
What a mess that sounds like! I don't have any knowledge about the situation but want to offer my sympathies--especially since she's my aunt too.
Poor Waiting!!!!!
