i've been doing a little research into a pharoah named akhenaten.
been coming up with some variances in dates and would like to know if anyone else has run across this info.. akhenaten (amenhotep iv) reigned 1379-1362 bc.
according to 'the bible timeline' moses was born in 1355 bc, right after akhenaten.

LOL! I'm not taunting you! Besides, I didn't think it up--my boss did as I was relating this info to him.
Coincidence: he belongs to a book club and just received a book on Akhenaton. He's bringing it in for me tomorrow.
I don't know how sure it is that Moses wrote the Pentateuch, but I'll check . . . soon. . . I'm sure I will . . .

That was amoving post. Thanks for thinking of it. It really did seem that way to me in recent years (with very few exceptions). I always blamed myself, but now feel it's a common problem in the WTBS--the loneliness.

I just want to reiterate and elaborate a bit on Seeker's point that female 'circumcision' is different.
Actually, I believe the correct term is 'female genital mutilation' (FMG). In order to be comparable, the male's entire penis would have to be cut off. The female has no equivalent of a foreskin.
If evolution is true, then the theory, as I understand it, wouldn't necessarily mean the foreskin is important or not. If one believes in creation, it would be 'perfect' as brought out. But in evolution, whatever doesn't hamper reproduction stays--whether good or bad.
It's like the saying 'he with the most toys wins,' only in evolution, it's 'he that lives and reproduces wins.'

I agree with Larc that you put a unifying theme with disparate ideas. It's as critics have said about the WT taking things out of context. The don't use the context of the culture and beliefs at the time.

Hi all,
I'm joining this thread very late. But I wanted to comment on the original news article and the court forbidding the man to father any more children.
Humans are over-running the earth. The population is reaching crisis stage. It seems that there should be regulation on reproduction in order to prevent humans from becoming extinct, as so many other species have done from over-running their environment.
This seems like a drop in the bucket, but step in the right direction.
I intend to look into Zero Population Growth and even Negative Population Growth organizations one of these days.
Just a little side point to the discussion.

does the majority of exjws continue studying the bible on their own or join a new christian group that's less rigid than the jws?

I stopped about 4 months ago being a JW and tend to be atheist/agnostic. There seem to be quite a few here. I don't know what the majority is though. And may morph into something else, who knows? Doubt it though.

Re your supposition that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Melchizadek, & others were also monotheists, consider this.
This presupposes that the Bible is true and the writers were above skewing the stories, which, of course, is debatable.
Now, we know that MOSES wrote the Pentateuch--Genesis thru Deuteronomy, which contains the stories of the above people. He could have simply wrote it so that the others believed ONLY in Jehovah--backpedaling the saga in order to fit his beliefs.
The following may support that:
1. Abraham came from Ur which was one of the chief city-states of Sumer. He could have easily been polytheistic.
2. Rachael's family was polytheistic, as you brought out recently on another thread. She stole Laban's gods.
3. "Elohim" is used to refer to God often in the 1st 5 books. It is plural. The WT and others explain this to mean magnificence in Hebrew language. It also could have simply been plural.
What do you think? There may be more possibilities in this line, huh?

Thanks for the info. I'm printing it all out and saving it. I'm continually amazed at you folks who seem to have this research at the ready! How do you do it?
It certainly is food for thought. The WT Insight books put Moses' birth in the 1500 BC which seems way off.
I'll keep this for reference in my loosely organized files!
I've done geneaology in the past, and now this kind of research and both can produce a lot of paper!
