Attention Governing Body: October 2, 2014 is only 940 days away...

in 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.

oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.

but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

Some because of their wrong expectations thought that the End would come within the lifespan of the overlapping generation. But the faithful and discreet slave once again is right by clearing this up and showing how this third group is part of the generation as well. Aboriginal Australians Aren't Black?!

it's very rare that i visit this site these days and even rarer that i start a thread, but ever so often i see a comment so outrageous that i just have to respond.

in a thread entitled "are black people more emotional than white people", the op made the following comment concerning the lack of "black people" in australia:"we have the australian aboriginal people butthey are a different race more related to white people i beleive.

" the bad spelling and grammer isn't the only thing wrong with this sentence.

They are not black. I can't believe this has to be explained to someone in the 21 st century.

The term black is not necessarily because of skin color. It has to do with heritage. There are some africans that are whiter than indians, and caucasians that are darker than asians.

This is the problem with defining races with skin color, it confuses everything. You must be from the US, because the US is truly the most confused society in the world when it comes to race. A society that says that Cameron Diaz and Jose Reyes are of the same race because they both speak Spanish can only be deeply confused.

As someone already mentioned, most jehovah witness don't even know or care about how the date of 1914 is calculated, and most will probably day dream midway through this study, when in reality this is the heart of some of the most important beliefs in the Org.

Any person with half a brain can figure out that there are records for every single year of every babylonian king, except for the supposed 20 years that the Watchtower society wants to add. No records, no anything for those 20 years.....how strange.

There are scores of concrete evidence that the date of 607 bc is incorrect. Compare that, with this obscure, unreliable study about a fraction of the evidence, made by anonymous researchers.

It bothers me when they say that the bible itself says that it happened in 607BC, how dishonest. What the bible says is that is that the SERVITUDE of the NATIONS of Judah was 70 years...and it was.

Around 609 BC the babylonian armies conquered the nations on the northern part of Judah during a battle with Egypt, and started this servitude which ended in 539 with the fall of Babylon as it is known.

Also, anybody who is half intelligent, can look at Jeremiah 44 which describes events of the destruction of Jerusalem, and see that the Pharaoe who was ruling at that time was Hophra. Pharaoe Hophra started his rule in 589 BC, so how could it have been 18 years yearlier in 607 bc????

Maybe we'll need to re-write egyptian history as well to accomodate the Watchtower beliefs.

I agree that for most JWs the dates don't really matter that much.

I have shown this to a few JWs including my mother, and the answer is that maybe some dates are wrong, but that their religion is still the best out of all of them

Most JWs cannot see the big picture. The way they reason this out is something like " Well all other religions believe in Hell and Trinity and Soul, and i know for a fact that is not true, so this must be the truth"

now is a good time to start making preparations for the memorial night demonstration at your kingdom hall thursday, april 5, 2012, after sundown.. close to 20 million people will attend this annual global witness event including active witnesses, relatives and friends of witnesses, bible studies,return visits and still attached former witnesses.

the evils of the watchtower org.have to be exposed and this is an ideal time to do it.. many around the world have been adversely affected by their association with jehovah's witnesses and you can be an instrumental force by standing tall and courageously exposing the watchtower organization.. there is no better way to let the watchtower know your revulsion than to broadcast and present your view by standing fearlessly, demonstrating in front of a kingdom hall.. i am fully aware that a handful of the internet therapists who post on this forum will not agree with this method of unmasking the watchtower.. those intolerant, contemptuous critics who will comment on this thread making harsh judgements and finding fault with those who protest are perhaps deep-down wishing they had the backbone to stop hiding in cyber-space, step away from their computer and "get out of the bleachers and into the game" .

lets make this a global event!......

I thought the video was funny. But honestly the thing that this accomplishes is the fact that JWs will use it to support the fact that they are after them. I'm sure inside the hall everybody was commenting on how Satan is so active and desperate.

How anybody in their right mind would believe this ridiculous explanation is beyond me.

The speaker makes the ridiculous comparison of a kid who is in school and has other kids of varying ages around him, and that they are all school children. The issue with that is that those kids are 3 to 4 years apart. But the Watchtower says that as long as they overlap they are part of the same generation. This means that my grandfather and I are of the same generation. How logic.......

i'm on page 90 right now...the info is definitely new and gives me a totally diff view as to how i used to think of faithful and discreet slave.

i was thoroughly disgusted with the way the brothers handled the oral sex and leadership problem and the insight on the scriptures book...... still have alot of questions though.

Congratulation on deciding to read that book. And congratulations on coming in contact with the Ex - JW subculture which we belong to.

We pretty much all read that book. After you read that book, and the follow up In Search Of Christian Freedom, you should move on to a few others which focus on specifc things within the message of the Ray Franz books.

You should read The Gentile Times Reconsidered, which was written by a former Swedish elder Carl Olof Jonsson. It focuses on the impossibility of the destruction of Jerusalem being in 607bc which connects to the 1914 date. I remember that half way through the book, Carl had already presented so much overwhelming evidence of the date being impossible that i ended up not reading the rest.

I'm currently reading Apocalypse Delayed, which is really a detailed story of the history of JWs and how the different beliefs developed. Truly amazing. Happy reading.

Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"

british dubs are invited to attend a special convention next summer in dublin , irish republic.

o k, this kind of trip has been done many times before.

however i have never seen such a crude and rigid set of rules that would apply to their own people going on a trip, at their own expense of course.

Should I say something?

my parents are quite popular in their congregation, and they're constantly inviting brothers and sisters over.

as i've been part of the org for 19 years i know all these people very well, and before i da'd myself i was good friends with all of them.

every other friday they invite a single brother round for dinner, just to cheer him up a bit.

I'm still wondering why these "brothers" come over and actually sit and eat with you. The instructions from the Org is that you should be treated as DFed.

In any case, i know what you mean. In fact there are still some friends and family of mine which know i dont attend meetings but don't know exactly why, so when they ask me if i'm going to meeting i say no, and then have to endure the "pitty" looks and the " too bad you are not good enough" looks.

It makes me boil inside honestly, but i bite my tongue because speaking out, would probably result in some sort of shunning and i'm still trying to avoid that. What i would really like to say is that organization is not good enough for me, and i know that at some point, i'll have to start saying that, despite the consequences.
