It is beyond apparent that most JWs now preach simply so that they can write a report at the end of the month and stay afloat. If you question them or engage them after they regurgitate their initial prepared introduction, they look at you for about 5 seconds with a glaze in their eyes almost in disbelief that someone actually asked them a question. They then usually give a generic answer about the subject with very little detail. If you ask for more detail, they usually don't know and offer to come back after consulting their books.

in the latest october 15th 2012 watchtower (page 13).... "because of what they perceive as defects in the elders, some individuals who engage in serious wrongdoing in the congregation have refused to appear before a committee of elders assigned to help them.

this could be likened to a patient who loses out on the benefits of a treatment because he does not like something about the doctor.".

sounds like they're now trying to stigmatize those who try to avoid judical action.

Yes, this is of course ridiculous.

But more interesting, is the decreasing quality of the convincing arguments that the WT society uses as we move ahead in time. I'm not sure if i'm the only one noticing this, but as of late, the quality of the written pieces especially when it comes to logic and argument leaves a lot of be desired.

It's understandable since most of the writers probably don't have any formal education to do this job, but IMHO the quality of the written content in the publications was much better years ago.

of particular note is the "highlight" on page 4, announcing the attendance at the memorial in the usa.. the 2012 yearbook notes the memorial attendance in 2011 was 2.563,318, while in 2012, per the september 2012 km, it was 2,502,055 -- a decline of 2.4%.. .

If there has been an consistent increase over the years regardless of the day of the week, this this decline would be significant especially two years in a row.

If last year's memorial was on a Sunday and this years was during the week, then this is not surprising. We all know that all JWs will attend this, but for many others the fact that it's not on a weekend, will mean that they will not accept the invitation to go. Although i do think that the numbers for the memorial will start to shrink as well.

No more 3-day DCs starting in 2013?

apologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.

some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.

anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.

This is a cost saving measure.

The Org is realizing that if they reduce the lenght of DC's their costs will go down, but more often than not, Jdubs will contribute the same as they always do. It's the same concept with reducing the amount of pages per magazine - reduced cost, but same donation amount.

This is a typical business decision of big corporations to increase profit. This is why companies reduce the size of their product, often under the disguise of being "concentrated". They know that people will use the same amount regarless and thus pay the same amount for less.

after reading cruzenheart's post on the letter about her father, and the treatment he received from the co, william osbeck, and the elders of his congregation, it brought back my own memories of this particular co and his treatment of people.

it was 1995 and one of the hardest years of my life.

in february of that year, i learned i was pregnant with our fifth child.

insensitivity and unmercifulness permeates the organization at all levels.

One just needs to look at the ones who spend their entire lives preaching as pioneers and publishers. Throughout their lives their generate thousands of dollars for the Org and in return once they get old and frail they are discarded as useless individuals.

In all these years the Watchtower hasn't develped an assistance program for the ones who give their full time to preaching and end up having no sustainable income later in life.

Aside from the occasional help from the brothers under their own initiative, they have to resort to the evil "wordly" charity organizations or perhaps their "wordly" family for help, since not even a penny is released from the publishing company.

Stauros actually means both "stake" and "cross".

In classical greek it means stake. In Koine Greek it means cross.

During the time when the new testament was written, Koine Greek was used, but the Watchtower wouldn't wanna tell you about that, would they?

from what i'm seeing on other sites many are now coming out of the woodwork to file charges against the wts.. in all reality with the conti case payout, could the wts and individual congregations (also having to pay) really sustain these blows?

and if so how would this play out?

they're not as rich as rc religion.

This is going to be a catch 22 for the society..

On one hand they have mostly settled out of court in these cases, to keep these incidents from the news. They decide to fight this one case, and lose big bucks.

This all means that with the promises of big money, all sorts of individuals will now come out of the woodword with lawsuits.

In turn the Watchtower will be forced to fight most, if not all these cases, because i doubt they will want to settle with all. This of course will generate more and more news stories, which in turn will likely be used by the Org to show evidence that the last days are at hand and that God's people are truly under attack.
