i just read about this on the ex-jw subreddit.

He couldn't have put it in a more subjective way. What's permissive for some might not be permissive for the organization.

He should have addressed the specific points. Is is true that the organization makes no effort to contact authorities about such cases unless absolutely required? Is it true that unless there are two witnesses to this crime or a confession, no real action is taken? Is it true that elders do not warn other parents of the accusations, unless there are two witnesses or a confession?

So say that apostates thing the organization is permissive and that they don't agree with this, is pretty much useless and ambiguous.

Do you feel bad throwing away literature?

so do you feel bad throwing away your old literature?.

what about your old song book or bible from your early days in the org?.

if so, is it because of sentimentality, monetary cost or because it might be 'sacred' ?.

I think its important to throw out WTS literature, just in case children see and read it.

You know children who will pick up old dull looking books and read them? wow.. what country do these children live in? I know in the US children don't read anything unless it comes with a large LCD screen and a fancy remote.

This is why we are proud to be last in education rankings on a consistent basis.

after almost 24 years in the school and doing it since i was nine years old, i officially resigned.

it has become increasingly difficult to prepare talks, especially with the new format for brothers.

i did not mind doing them; i actually put the time and effort into getting them out.

In reality, the TMS is probably the only positive thing in the JW universe. It actually helps you learn how to compose an essay, work on your public speaking skills and help you feel comfortable speaking in front of others.

It's not much, but for uneducated folks like most of JWs, It's a bit of help to sharpen those skills.

i sometimes look at the magazines on jw.org to see what the wt are saying now.

the latest watchtower is a good old fire and brimstone, armageddon is coming any moment now issue, but it was a short article in the april 2015 awake that caught my eye.

it features the country of honduras and is quite an informative little read (though failing to mention the very high crime rate in that country).

It's quite compelling to note that the Almighty God Jehovah has only managed to attract the attention of a mostly marginalized 19th century American cult.

In fact, jehoober is not even able to make his organization knows to most of the world. The creator of the entire universe is not even able to warn 8 billion people that he has an organization. If this creator of the universe really existed and had unimaginable power, how long do you think it would take him to warn 8 billion people? One day?two? Ok fine, let's say a week if he is really busy.

Time to criticize another religion: Islam

please understand i have nothing against islam.

i have something against alpha muslim men.. i was walking my cute little chihuahua mix in the park the other day when darts off sniffing since i am using a retractable extension leash and i am not minding the fact that he comes up on a muslim family and gets within a foot of them.

the paterfamilias gives me a dirty look and then says something to his wife and i can make out the word "saif" which is arabic for "sword.

Is this the same Islam which instructs it's followers with wonderful words such as "Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" ?

Well guess what! I have a lot of feelings against it, and it doesn't bother me a bit. I wish i could flush Islam down my toilet.

What comforts you when you no longer believe in a ressurrection ?

our family just lost someone dear and very close, a faithful jw.

as we went through the entire funeral services and meeting long time brothers and sisters, who in general have been very kind and warm towards us, we realize that the hope of resurrection is a meaningless utopia for us, like a fairytale for little children.

we don't have faith in it anymore, and serves us of no comfort.

The feeling that I get about mortality is the same feeling that one gets when he is stuck at home while there is a great party going on somewhere else and you're missing out.

I think about the fact that in the near future, i won't exist anymore, and all the great things happening in the world which i will miss. I really would love even to be an observer of the future even if i could not participate.

But I do find comfort in knowing I now know the straight truth about this, and don't live in a fairy tale. I now know I have to make the most of it now.

Also I have very little desire to live in the world JWs call paradise. I like this world.

Attacking the elders, can that bring down the cult??

the borg has left out in the cold the victims of child molesters all to save their reputation and have used the elders to do their bidding in these evil works.

they have even made changes to their policies to put more of the responsibility on the elders.

so if the lawyers of these molestation victims which normally go after the money ie the borg were to also aggressively go after these elders in these cases could this not start a ripple effect where by elders find out and start resigning en mass to protect themselves knowing the borg not going to help them?.

Don't think there is much of a case against elders. Nor there should be. These folks are micromanaged to the slightest detail by the "mothership". They simply do what they are told

Rationality could be found in Scriptures!

thus scriptures were blamed for all the misdeeds of religions.

this was precipitated by certain verses in scriptures which are obviously interpolated by those with vexed interest..

Well i don't know which book you are reading, but the Bible's emphasis is about that no matter how shitty your life is, in the end if you are a good person, there is an imaginary man in the sky who will place you in a paradise full of playful leopards and goats. That is the basis of the bible, the promise of the kingdom of God to all those who are oppressed and not really enjoying any ride.

I see. What then of the concept that someone who doesn't believe in God, or doesn't believe in your version of his will, deserves to die? Christians believe that someone in this situation deserves to die. Muslims not only believe in this, but are willing to do the job for God.

This doesn't seem very conducive to peace.

So what you are saying is for peace to exist, someone needs to pretend the bible and other books don't say these things, or have the rational capacity to only select the good of those books, but this can't be because most people are shitheads

Either way, it seems the imaginary man in the sky didn't foresee how such inflamatory verses, would create hate and division in mankind as it stands today.

Is the preaching work, no longer the number 1 priority?

i have been observing a pattern in recent wtbs publications and events.

is the importance of the preaching activity no longer the number 1 priority?

are not billions of lives still at stake?.

I'm sure by now the GB has realized that preaching doesn't generate new converts; it never really did. You can walk into any KH and ask how many of those in attendance became JWs because a complete stranger knocked on their door, and perhaps a handful will raise their hands.

They know that new converts come from within, so it's important to protect the flock from external influences

Preaching serves the purpose of keeping JWs busy and thinking they are special. Success is measured by the bottom line just like any other corporation.

Within one minute JW with trolley directs me to JW.org

i live in relatively small seaside community (regional population around 45,000).

in my ten years here, i've had witnesses call on me perhaps twice (not special visits but during door-to-door).

whereas they once canvassed door-to-door much more frequently - and in larger size service groups - there is quite a decline in their door-knocking - at least in this region.. with the advent of the "trolley" work, their visibility has increased - but i'd estimate only marginally.

How long before you see JW.org vending machines or a robot standing on a corner, where you walk up press a button and out comes a pamphlet about JW.org?

The older one simply added, "People are very busy these days so we're inviting people to find out more about us on the internet."

Yes, but in this case he had someone walk up to him, so clearly there is some time to talk. Lazy!
