  Jehovah? Oh dear.

  some recent new friends on this forum like friend kosonen are fixated with god's name being jehovah...unfortunately they are wrong:.

  a quick bit of history:.

  "about the 13th century the term “jehovah” appeared when christian scholars took the consonants of “yahweh” and pronounced it with the vowels of “adonai.” this resulted in the sound “yahowah,” which has a latinized spelling of “jehovah.” the first recorded use of this spelling was made by a spanish dominican monk, raymundus martini, in 1270.. interestingly, this fact is admitted in much jehovah’s witness literature, such as their aid to bible understanding (p. 885).

  In Hebrew it is of course written HWHY , which we then read from right to left, YHWH, the sensible way of reading LOL. In Hebrew this would be, read from right to left, yodh, he, waw and he.

  The word has been known since before the time of William Tyndale. in English, as Jehovah.

  To insist upon changing this to a more accurate pronunciation is just pointless and silly in IMHO, in general writing and conversation, though I can see why Academics may wish to do so, thye don't want to be mistaken for J.W's do they ? ha ha. As has been stated many times, the way the early Israelites pronounced it can only be guessed at.

  Many words transliterated in to English have changed dramatically since they came in to usage. Do we change them all back to something more "original" ? Good luck with that.

  The org's argument that "Jehovah" is well known and recognised is valid, their insistence on putting it in to the N.T so many times is more doubtful, and the way they have done it is deliberately not consistent, and so is dishonest. Also, their constant overuse of it is not justified, if "Jehovah" in their mind is the only god, and Jesus merely his firstborn, why use a personal name for god at all ?

  did anyone catch michael palin's travel documentary in north korea?

  it was a fascinating insight into such a secretive and controlled country.

  totalitarian, suppressed and yet i found a few similarities to jw mentality.. particularly, this segment, where michael asks his handler about the limitations on freedom she has.

  N.K uses Mind Control, as do all Cults, as do the J.W org , it is the most effective form of control to use on large numbers of people.

  As Cofty rightly says, the J.W org and similar cults, are very close to the totalitarian regimes that we have been appalled by over the years. Using Mind Control to enforce strict Authoritarianism.

  "Totalitarian" and " Authoritarian" are almost synonyms, but the merely Authoritarian State is more open to reform. The totalitarian State (or cult/religion) tries, and often succeeds, Vampire like, to change the mind and very soul of the person. Therefore the J.W org is totalitarian.

  I am not fan of Big Pharma, it is immoral, lies, and kills more people than it saves perhaps. But the false information in " Plandemic" is downright disgusting, and may cause people to ignore proper advice and therefore possibly contract the virus, with possible fatal results.

  I am thinking that some may just watch the Video, and end up very ill or dead, without seeking further, accurate information.

  For that reason it would be good for Simon to remove this Thread.

  Brainwashing left a stain

  hi one of my jw parents died recently of old age , after decades of brainwashing of the dead are just a sleep and if we are good we would see them again in paradise .. i fully understand now you have one life and should make the best of it but finding it difficult at the moment to get my head around it .. it's just a bit of a rant but your the only ones that i can try and express how i feel and be able to understand after the years of brainwashing how it affects my thinking process.. thanks for any help and advice..

  I decided soon after I left that I would lead an evidence based life. That meant I would only trust that something was true if it was backed by solid Facts and Evidence that would bear any scrutiny.

  This got rid of any beliefs, beliefs in the sense of ideas and opinions not backed by Fact.

  That totally freed my mind ! And finally I experienced true happiness, thoroughly enjoying the freedom of thought, and freedom to develop in to the Real Me ! The J.W Mind Control was completely gone ! All I have to watch out for is that my thinking and opinions are not being shaped by shysters and conspiracy theorists and the like, lots of them about, and I sometimes still fall slightly for that kind of stuff, if I'm not wary enough. I have to remind myself it is still necessary to look for REAL Facts and Evidence.

  i was watching some of the may jw cult broadcast.

  this push to be a movie studio and other things makes this cult seem like something else entirely from what i grew up in.

  they really are trying to use anything they can to hook suckers into being cult members.

  They had to re-brand with the Blue logo etc. in an attempt to attract new suckers, as they had a real hole in the bottom of the bucket. How well it has worked I am not sure, not so well with retention as they hoped I would guess.

  As you say phoenixrising, not the Cult we knew and loved LOL. I was born-in during the early 1950's, some of the old time JW's I knew from that time would have been appalled ! Dancing in the K.H ? Idolatry of the G.B, something my father hated with the adoration of Knorr etc. and many other modern innovations.

  What they will do next to market themselves if T.V etc doesn't bring in the converts, and after they have sold all the K.Hs they can, is hard to predict. Cash Flow may become a problem.

  Truly a great generation, men and women united in their opposition to Fascism, and as Cofty says, prepared to die if necessary.

  We owe it to them to fight Fascism and the far Right as much as we can today, it is creeping back in a number of Countries.

  Respect to all who fought, and supported the War effort.

  Dutch judge rules that elders are not entitled to hide behind clergy-penitent privilege

  today a dutch judge ruled that jw elders and the jw branch cannot invoke clergy-penitent privilege when it comes to information used in a judicial committee.. jw had filed a complaint with the courts because the branch office, two kingdom halls and a few elders' homes were raided by police almost 2 years ago in search of evidence related to child abuse issues.. jw argued that the information that was taken by police is protected by clergy-penitent privilege.

  today the judge ruled that 1) an organization doesn't haven't such a privilege, 2) jw elders don't always act as spiritual counselors.

  their actions as judges in judicial committees aren't protected by privilege, and 3) conversations jw have with their elders are often not confidential at all (as per jw policy) so jw elders can't rightfully invoke clergy-penitent privilege to maintain absolute confidentiality, because there isn't absolute confidentiality in the first place.. jw are thinking about appealing the verdict..

  I cannot see an Appeal being successful. I cannot think what they can say to counter the Judgement. More Donation money will be wasted, trying to defend the indefensible.
