" I never use fossils to try to support evolution." Richard Dawkins called the Fossil Record a "bonus" for the Theory of Evolution, not a Foundation.
The firm establishment of the Fact of Evolution by Natural Selection needs no support from us, mere lay persons, anyway. The Scientific community has done its work for over a Century proving it as Truth. A number of branches of Science use it in the work they do. Of course, as with any Scientific Theory, new knowledge adds to it, which is why it is called a Theory, it is not set in stone, but the Fact of Evolution as a process by which Flora and Fauna got to where we are today will not be overturned.

Magadan
by molybdenum init seems that g. jackson got confused during his presentation relating to jesus and his going to magadan.
( check out lloyd evans "magadangate") but the jw community seems very hesitant and quiet on this apparent "faux pas".
has anyone had any feedback from jw's that you know on this or are they just sweeping it under the carpet as being nothing of particular note?.

" They are going to make a film of the life of Jesus so they are trying to figure out when he said this or that so they can plan the scenes."
Must be a nightmare trying to do that, the Gospels contradict themselves on many things, and it would seem are not written with due care as to the order of events and statements etc. What uniformity there is comes from the Gospel of Mark being written first, and "Matthew" and "Luke" cribbing from it. The writer of John goes his own way, and changes many things. Even the day and time of Jesus' death. I wonder how they will waffle around THAT ?

Genesis 1:16 and apologists- vegetation before the Sun?
by joey jojo ingen 1: 11 says: .
11 then god said, “let the earth sprout [j]vegetation, [k]plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit according to [l]their kind [m]with seed in them”; and it was so.
12 the earth produced [n]vegetation, [o]plants yielding seed according to [p]their kind, and trees bearing fruit [q]with seed in them, according to [r]their kind; and god saw that it was good.

" I view Genesis chapter one as a simplified parable, not a scientific document." Fine, but once you start down the route of " Oh, that bit is a metaphor, or a parable" or whatever, where do you stop ?
Adam and Eve, a parable ? Well, yes, it is, sort of in actuality, but for Bible believers that means that original Sin did not happen, or " The Fall", only in a Parable, so sin did not enter the World then at that time. ( So Paul got it wrong).
And so on. Many other questions of faith arise if it is all metaphors and Parables.
The easiest conclusion to come to is that the Bible is a collection of writings made over several Centuries, by mere men, and is not the Word of God.
If you come to that conclusion, why believe in the Bible god as a Creator ?

It looks to me as though this year the JW's have synchronized with our Jewish friends and agree on 27th March for Nisan 14th. In a good number of years the JW's go their own merry way and say Nisan 14th is on a different day to that which our Jewish friends put it.
If this was out of some desire to be accurate then I suppose it would be understandable, but as the Gospels differ on the day of Jesus' death, surely the day of the Last Supper cannot be established with any certainty ?

Watchtower Changes Position On Sodomites
by Sea Breeze inwhy all the flipflops?.
1886 sodomites resurrected = yes!“thus our lord teaches that the sodomites did not have a full opportunity; and he guarantees them such opportunity… it implies their awakening, their coming from the tomb.”—the divine plan of the ages, 1886, pp.

Were the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah REALLY the recipients of a judgement from El/Yahweh for Homosexuality ? or for some other reason ?
The Story has been interpreted by reading back in to it the prejudices of later times, but when you look at the time in History when this event is supposed to happen, is it really about Homosexuality ? Leviticus hadn't been written.
What justification would there be for this judgement from El/Yahweh ? Had he warned the inhabitants that Homosexuality was wrong, and that he was actually a god and would punish for it ?
Or was El or Yahweh more likely to punish because the tradition of the Desert that a guest in your midst is given safety was transgressed ?

A number of memories. But one amusing one. Our little Group used to like to sit up on the Balcony, you could spend time perusing others from there, and ignore the waffle from the platform.
Some Little Hitler noticed the balcony seats filled up first and the main Auditorium therefore looked a little sparse, so whoever this was, decided to rope off half of the Balcony, well, that meant their were not enough seats on " our balcony", their was another Balcony the other side, but that was not all " our lot", so one of our lads took down the "Rope" and proceeded to sit his family in the formerly roped off bit, and was shortly followed by a few more from " our gang".
Little Hitler and some other Attendants turned up to remonstrate with these rebellious Bros and Sistas , but was told that we built and paid for this Hall, and we will sit where we want !
The roping off did not happen again. That is why I loved my Congregation, we put up with no B.S and no jumped up little twats telling us what to do !

J.W org, if they lose in the Belgique Courts are silly enough , and arrogant enough, to take this all the way to the European Supreme Court of Justice.
If they lose at the highest Court, then the Ruling has Power in all member States, and other Jurisdictions out side of the E.U take note .
I hope that scenario plays out !

Looking Back Were There Any “Apostates” In Your Congregation?
by minimus ini remember knowing some jws that expressed their own personal viewpoints regarding what a scripture meant that was at odds with society teachings.
in the 60 and 70’s, that was pretty much tolerated until the great purge in 1979 and 1980. as a matter of fact, it wasn’t unusual for witnesses to get together and discuss personal questions and viewpoints they might have.
it wasn’t unusual to send letters to the society asking what was considered the right or wrong view.

I was one who openly questioned stuff from the time I was about 20, always having had questions from when I was about 10 or 11.
I joined a Congregation when I got married that had one guy in it of similar mind to me, and we became friends, gradually our influence rubbed off on others, and our Congregation became known as a " Rebel" congregation, even the guy sent in there to sort it out, by the C.O of the day, we in short time converted to our ways ! He was appointed Congregation Servant, as it was then, over and above the guys already there.
His main achievement was to get us to wear ties on the platform, not our custom before ! Eventually we got the reputation that we were " difficult" and one C.O said to me that the previous C.O was afraid to visit us, because we did not simply accept " direction" but wanted Chapter and verse from the Bible to back it up !
I fitted in to this motley crew very well. Eventually it was watered down by other Elders moving in from more Conservative places, but it was gradual.
The 1980's were without doubt a watershed, The Org itself changed, Ray Franz and friends had rattled them so much they decided to go down the route of being even more Authoritarian, and if you were not one who towed the line, you would never make " progress" in the Org.
Many moved to our Cong. as the last place that there was some semblance of freedom, and where there were intelligent people who actually made the Meetings interesting, and even F.S a bit of fun !
But, it gradually became more of a " normal" Congregation as it grew, it lost its independent spirit, and we , who now would have been labelled as Apostates I guess, either faded in to the background, or like me, left.
But to have been a member of a Congregation which today would be unthinkable in its free and independent Spirit, was I guess a better experience for me than if I had been somewhere else, I often think though, I would have woken up earlier, had I been in a little grey , boring C.O arse-licking Congregation. I could not have suffered it.

Vienne said " Oppose Jehovah's Witnesses. Certainly. But when we spew uninformed nonsense, we persuade no one." And I could not agree more. Also, thank you Vienne for your research, and for your informed Posts on here.
Sadly this Site has degenerated over the years, there are so many on here not prepared to research, or even do a simple Fact Check, but will insult those of us who do, or " unlike" our Posts because they do not fit in with their uninformed, conspiracy theory opinions. Opinions they have culled from some sad nonentity on the Internet usually, not even their own opinion.
I value your work, and contributions here. And anyone connected with you who continues to carry the Torch !
