  2034 - A Future History of Jehovah's Witnesses

  i don't know what i am talking about... read this post at your peril.

  back in the 1960s there was, seemingly, a brief period of relaxation in authoritarianism among jehovah's witnesses.

  those who have read raymond franz's 'crisis of conscience' will have heard the story about dan sydlik's remark about the need to 'open some windows to let some air in here'.

  The J W Org has not really progressed much from Russell and Rutherford's time. They are still basically a 19th Century Doomsday, End Times Cult.

  All they have to sell is FEAR, having sold that to you, that if you don't join you are toast, they keep you in by the FEAR of being Disfellowshipped.

  The problem for them is how you keep the FEAR going, crying "Wolf Wolf" as the old story shows, does not work, fatigue starts, then when the credibility of the engendered FEAR begins to wain for an individual, that person is free to lead a more normal life, if constrained by still being a J.W.

  That is the Governing Body's problem, how to counter that process, of how to keep the fear going, set another Date ? dodgy, don't set one, where is the fear ?

  Once freedom of mind is tasted, the Walls of Fear of exercising Mental Freedom begin to crumble, a few clicks of a mouse, and the whole House of Cards that is J.W teaching and claims comes tumbling down.

  2034 is only 12 years away, I really don't think they dare now use that, but 1914 MUST be losing credibility as every day passes.

  I think they are between a Rock and a Hard Place, and will decide on something that will last longer than 2034, but that will engender fear every year for the foreseeable future.

  I am fascinated to see what that strategy will be.

  well now there's something being built on the same site.

  i'm thinking a high watchtower monument.

  jesus has placed the weightiest of responsibilities on the faithful and discreet slave-namely,overseeing the domestics and giving out spiritual food atthe proper time.

  jesus knew that those with greater responsibility have greater accountability.

  The parable of the Discreet and Evil Slaves is just that a PARABLE , when will folks recognize that ? I have no choice but to put these next few words in Capitals :

  IT IS NOT A PROPHECY.

  Read it without JW Specs on and you will plainly see, it is a story used as a teaching aid, and ONLY that !

  If you are interested Judgie, there are loads of old Threads of quality from years ago, the Search facility is at the top of the page, a bit clunky, but you can find stuff.

  A good contributor from years ago was Alan Feurbacher, he posted as Alan F on here, sadly he passed away a couple of months back.

  Another excellent Poster from years back, who approached things in an extremely knowledgeable and Academic way, was the Poster Leolaia , she no longer Posts, but I cherish the Education she gave me, and because of her I continue to read Academic stuff about the Bible. Enjoy !

  the brooklyn pharisees assured the sheeple for decades that isaiah 2:2, micah 4:1-3, & haggai 2:7 were prophetically.

  2.8 million to 8 million in that time period that BB mentioned is not people flocking to the Borg. Though it is a decent growth, but not as good as similar Cults have achieved !

  Most years they now hardly cover the Death Rate by much. It is slow, small "growth", not what they predicted.

  watchtower 1954 p.511 "why do watchtower publications now show jesus with short hair and no beard?

  because he is shown that way in older representations of him that are older then the traditional effeminate looking pictures.".

  watchtower 1968 p.286 "bible evidence and a recent review shows that jesus did have a beard..." charles russell style of beard was popular at bethel...till rutherford took over.

  I wrote to the WT HQ about wearing of beards, in about 1974, they sent a reply which was full of the usual crap about why I shouldn't , but said they could not make a Rule for the whole WW brotherhood, it depended upon the attitude to beards in the country in which you lived.

  I promptly grew a big one, and wore it for well over a decade, all that while I was a M.S and giving P.T's, even in neighbouring Congregations.

  I was eventually told I could not be used on a Circuit Assy if I had one, so as I wanted to have my say in the bit I was assigned, I shaved it off. A sis. came up to me afterwards and said "You certainly tell it like it is !" , so I suppose it was worth it.

  An Elder later said to me: " I hate what they made you do ". A few years later they used a bro with a beard at our circuit assembly in a similar item to mine. ???

  But after that they still told guys with a beard, though an Elder, they could not be a head of a department at Conventions. They are seriously messed up.

  i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.

  anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.

  he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

  I had an Employee who I had to warn he was in serious trouble, and if he did not do the right thing, I would take him to Court.

  He smugly replied " We don't take our brothers to Court" . Even though I was a believer fully at the time, and risked the wrath of the Elders, I immediately replied " I DO ! and I WILL!"

  The little shit did the right thing, so I didn't have to, but trying to pull that one on me made me so angry, that I would have taken him to Court.

  What have you forgotten you ever even knew?

  at a certain point, as the years tick by, you start to realize that you have forgotten a lot of things.

  typically, something you learned, some knowledge or skill you used to have, that you just haven't used for so long you no longer remember anything but that you once knew it.. i saw an article about electrical resistors the other day, and how the colored bands signify the rating.

  now all i remember is that i used to know it, and that resistors do something with, erm, electricity ...

  It is weird what the brain does, it seems to park stuff in a deep vault until needed, though some things cannot be dragged up from that vault.

  The way the brain seems to work is that if IT decides you don't need that stuff anymore, it sends it to the Vault, or worse, takes an executive decision to erase it altogether !

  But long buried memories can be suddenly whooshed up from the vault by the strangest of things, recently I had this happen simply because of a smell ! Another thing that drags them back is meeting a long lost friend, who reminds you of many things you did, which had been in theory long forgotten by you.

  I had this a while ago, I met an old mate from my teens, and he reminded me of one occasion where we had been on the Beer all night, then went for a Curry, and then I, as he recalled , but I had forgotten, in a car full of guys, I dropped the worst Fart any of them had smelt in their life !

  I Found Some Extremely Rare Rutherford Recordings

  i was blown away when i found these watchtower records with rutherford on them.

  these aren't the ones that were used door to door.

  these are 16 inch records that were sent to radio stations to broadcast rutherford over the airwaves.

  I have a number of Records, 78 RPM, that have Rutherford's ravings on, I also have a record Player as used by J.W's here in the U.K to play these on people's door steps. Inside it has a plate that says it is a Watchtower Inc. player.

  I really must get around to putting them on E-bay, and pick up a few quid. I think the player, with the records, will be popular with a weird kind of collector.

  I listened briefly to some of them back when they came in to my possession , probably around 40 or more years ago, I was laughing like a drain at them, as to me, Rutherford sounded JUST like W.C Fields !

  I think here a W.C Fields quote is appropriate : " The best thing a woman ever did for me, was to drive me to drink".

  1914- responsible for the biggest decrease in JW's?

  theres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.

  or will they come up with something new?.

  does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

  For me, the 1914 rubbish was THE reason I left. I read the prophecy in Daniel and decided there was NO WAY a sane person could make a prophecy out of it that went further than what it says in the chapter, that it was fulfilled by the temporary madness of the King ending after seven years.

  An Elder said he would come back to me on it, and prove 1914 to me. He never returned. I then researched on line and found that the date 607 BCE for the destruction of Jerusalem was wrong, wrong totally and without doubt.

  Therefore this meant that No 1914 = No 1919 choosing of a GB = today's G.B are self-appointed Charlatans.

  I then spent many hours researching everything J.W , and the whole House of Cards that is their teaching and Claims fell down.

  You and I have been conned by a massive, money making Scam.
