well here i am in the uk cold and windy but happy to see 'home' for a few weeks.. bought me and ipad to keep in touch.. was greeted by my family like i had never left all active witnesses and all aware i no longer believe, they have the blood thicker than water attitude.. my oldest sister tells me that the elders were 'asking about you' and that she accidentally said i would be visiting.. keep in mind that i left 17 years ago and they are still waiting to see how they can de-humiliate themselves for what they did and i guess they will never give up.

i sat there thinking, shepered the flock?

what is it about elders and getting even and revenge?

Well done ! I love it ! just a short while ago I would have been most disapproving of you for being so devious, now I just say Good for you !

Having experieced how the Elders simply wish to get you "off the books" rather than shepherd and care for you, I just know you are doing the right thing.

If your sister is even halfway right, the best you would get would be a half arsed "We may have made mistakes in the past" type of excuse (that is no apology) and then you would suffer the third degree grilling by two Elders till they trapped you in to saying something they can DF you for.

If they wished to apologise they could put it in a letter that your family could forward to you, that is as likely to happen as the GB admitting they are clueless,and then saying " so follow only Jesus."

Make sure they do not have your whereabouts across the pond, they have no right to that either.

You have done the best thing and the right thing, have a good journey home and a happy N.Y !

Brother tells Elders "fermented Coke" made him get a drink driving charge???? LOL!!

yes a brother was interrigated by the s.s elders in a local ethnic cong.

for getting arrested while driving under the influence of alcohol....to save his privleges he says that he had no alcohol at all, but did drink from an old bottle of coke which must have "fermented" into alcohol in his stomach...... maybe one of the best bullcrap stories i ever heard.....we need more honest elders like him in jehovahs "clean organisation..

This reminds me of the Elder who was obviously pissed as he gave a Service Meeting item and when they made the mistake of asking him to do the final prayer.

It was hilarious, and so was his excuse, he said he had just a glass of wine with his meal, and that must have reacted with the Anti-biotics he was taking !

This guy was a big drinker, and even the AB's would not have got him that pissed if he hadn't drunk a lot before the Meeting. The Elders believed him and he got away with it, bless him.

The Elders just do not have enough education and nous to see through this kind of thing, luckily !

Coke fermenting in the bottle , Tee Hee, just look at the ingredients, it is impossible.

when you are an exjw like myself, not yet disfellowshipped or officially d/a'd, any kind of interaction with jws can be stressful.

it's always like, what do i do if i run into someone...insert whatever scenario that would seem an absurd non-issue to normal (worldly) people.. henceforth, i am just going to be normal.

regardless of what jws might be near and be stumbled (tm), i will strive to be a normal member of society.

I too have resolved to not run and hide at the sight of a JW, the trouble is they ask about why they don't see me at the meetings any more, and as I do not want to be cast out and shunned by my family I cannot tell them, so end up sort of lying, saying I may be back when problems that I have are resolved.

Whatever, I cannot skulk anymore, it is too wearing.

As Fascist Governments go, Mussolini's in the 2nd WW was not so bad as the German Govt.

They were both in need of being defeated, any cult, by definition entraps its members, curtails their freedoms, they do not have the right to do that.

Mild or not, a high control group like the WT needs to have its wings clipped at the very least.

my mum is hard core lds and of all the family (3 boys 1 girl) i was the favoured son from a religious view point.

my defection to the atheist side has hit her hard since i was the one who married in the temple, served a mission, was the wards elder's qurum president etc.

we've never really talked face to face but she's been using the usual long distance stealth tactics (christmas presents of church quotes, church dvds, mormon abc type books for the smallest and inviting the kids to church activities while having covert one on one 'what shall we do?

Thanks for posting that Q, I can see that should my mother ever decide to talk with me about my "doubts" we will have a very similar conversation, you have shown me how to be strong yet kind when I talk to her.

The only conversation we have had so far ,apart from the normal family stuff, was when she heard that I have stopped going to Meetings, she 'phoned and asked if it were true (she is in a neighbouring congregation) and then she proceeded to tell me what she believed, the Paradise earth and suchlike.

I just said "I know what you believe Mum" and left it at that. When she is ready we shall talk some more, so thanks again.

the first century brothers are on the cover, going door to door with what look like leather messenger bags.. the first article is entitled, are all "christians" christian.

and you can tell by the picture that anyone with a beard or goatee is definitely not a real christian.. the next article, remain in my word has this quote that condemns catholics but seems eerily close to what jws believe:.

I have to admit that just a short while ago I would have argued exactly as David did in his posts on this thread.

But since reading many old threads on here the arrogance of believing I had the "truth of the bible" has gone, and I have a much greater appreciation of how other Christians have come to believe as they do, the JW stance on the Soul is particularly silly, and their Doctrine on blood is not just muddled and undefendable, it is worse, much worse than that, it is a murderous lie.

I have come to the conclusion that as a JW you do not have the skills to read and study the Bible and come to any appreciation of what it really says, because the WT spin on each scripture is still in ones mind.

To truly look at the Bible and ones faith with an open mind is a joy, but you have to empty out the WT crap first.

You then have the freedom to see things clearly, may many more people of faith find that freedom !

Non JW celebrities that the JW's adopted as their own

don't know if anyone else has ever seen this happen?

examples are princess diana, obama, pavorotti and then of course peter andre, cliff richard, the national geograpic magazine and the who.. all have been adopted as mascots by the jw's i've been around.

i was told about princess di etc that they had been wittnessed to ( someone they knew often sent them the magazines) which of course meant that they were secrect jw's(!).

I have never been impressed by "celebrity", even less so in recent times when all they have to do is appear on some "reality" show and do or eat something disgusting, or appear on some "talent" show and sing badly and they are Bingo! a celebrity.

So when "so and so" was said to be a JW, I would first of all take the info with a good pinch of salt, and then think "So what anyway?" , and in my cynical way would wait for the disclosure that even if they once were a JW, they have now been DF'd or have left, it seemed to happen to so many.

The celebrities the JW's seem to idolise of late are the Governing Body, this is troubling to me, I canot see anything in Scripture but condemnation for this, even John, when he knelt before an Angel was told "Do not do that".

Where is the Statement That JWs Should Follow the GB Even If They Think They Are Wrong?

Good quotes from Ding, and I remember, quite some years ago, either in print or in a talk we were told that we should follow instructions from the FDS even if we did not understand them or agree with them, we should simply be obedient.

It didn't sound right to me at the time, I thought "If you can't explain why, and make me agree by showing me from the Bible,why should I do as you say ?"

I guess my doubts about the organisation and its leadership were beginning even then.
