Jehovah`s Witnesses & Christendom their really no different

when i was a true blue diehard witness,i was convinced the clergy of christendom new they were teaching lies,falsehoods about the bible just to keep people in line.. guess what.. i dont see any difference in the attitude of the governing body, the elders, or the faithfull & discreet slave class (if it`s not just an arrangement ) or the wtb&ts lying,stretching the truth ,telling half truths, manipulating ideas,withholding vital information,or downright giving out mis-information as a theocratic war strategy,all with the intention of promoting their biased opinion/interpretation.

I agree completely Smiddy, I cannot see any difference, apart from the self-delusion is more rampant amongst the JW's, hell, even the GB may half believe their own B.S, they have ben raised to do so.

Usually the seminary educated Priests and Ministers etc of Christendom are well aware that the Bible is not inerrant or "truth" in any great measure, but they use the bible stories etc as metaphors to teach people how to live, as do the jewish Rabbis.

I can see no distinction in principle between any religion, they are all made by men for the benefit of men are they not ?

Brother Hero and Brother Sidekick, should I ask Brother Sidekick about the 1919 selection?

i went to the nearby 7-eleven on my lunch break to get a fountain drink and i happened to bump into some people from my wifes congregation including brother hero and brother sidekick.

brother hero was the guy who conducted a bible study with me using the bible teach book (my god, i have been around the witnesses and former witnesses too much as i even know the cult speak and book name abbreviations).

during our study he began bringing over another brother from the congregation who i began referring to as brother sidekick.. i found out from my wife that brother sidekick is the son-in-law of one of the elders in that congregation.

The 1919 thing is the one teaching that establishes the authority and raison de etre of the Governing Body/FDS.

Nobody in the WT understands the teaching fully, let alone is able to offer any proof in support of it.

Stick with that, do not let it go, get answers, or try to get them, it is impossible for them to prove that the religion has any foundation that would I.D it as God's Organization.

If they cannot prove this to you, why should you even consider joining ??

Does anybody still believe in God and the Bible?

i just want to know out of interest how many here still believe in god and christ and that the bible is god's word.

my faith in the wts is gone but i still love god and his son.

i've noticed that many here have lost their faith in god as well as the wts.

Is there one Bible Prophecy.....

in the form of a prediction, that can be proven to truly be a prediction,i.e written before the event, and it came true ?.

it would be good not to have time wasters on this thread in the form of the common ones that are brought up to demonstrate the bible's prophetic prowess, like cyrus being named , these have been debunked already.. but does there seem to be a genuine prophecy in there somewhere ?.

Interesting article Glenster, nothing there that is plain and easy to see or prove is there ?

Strange, if the Bible were the word of God you would think it would contain a prophecy that does not need convoluted exegesis to make it seem to work.

which reminds me of the truman show, the film that many of us here have taken as a metaphor for realising that the jehovah's witness world is not real.. but now i can't help wondering what happened to truman when he left his fake world and entered the real world.

When you revisit the film, and watch it as an allegory of our lives as JW's (not at all that it was written with that in view) it is scary how you can see yourself in the situation, just not aware of the real world, or the fact that you are being duped in to believing your world is real.

That film, and Orwell's 1984 just about sum up the JW experience.

Is "belief", which is basically trusting that something is true without any proof, a thing of value ? Of what practical use is it ?

Yes, it may engender a warm and fuzzy feeling in the good times, but when the s**t hits the fan in your life, you find that your belief can do nothing for you that is real, practical.

I have decided that I will only trust that for which I have solid , testable proof, everything outside of that is fantasy and delusion, and of no value.

Proof for God ? Nil.

Therefore the Bible is just a book written by men.

1st Century Dude with a Bible in Yesterdays WT?

If it is supposed to be say, mid 1st century or later, then the clean shaven early christian was a Roman citizen I would say, but even accepting that rather 21st century "bethel" drone look he has, the Codex of the time was a cumbersome affair, loose leaves held together by a leather thong sewn down the back, these pages were more often than not of vellum, so he could only have carried a scruffy looking copy of say, part of the Gospels.

Being hand written, not many pages per volume were actually that portable, it was just a slight advance on the scroll for a small amount of information. The scroll was not redundant at this time.

The WT loves to illustrate the 1St century christians as though they were exactly like the grey, colourless non-thinking JW of today, the truth is very different I suspect.

If my memory serves Vidqun, that Christ reference in Josephus has been proved to be spurious.Even if genuine, it would only prove the existence of the "myth" of Jesus, nothing to do with prophecy. (by "myth" I mean story, not necessarily that it is not historical in some measure)

All these later writers are repeating the "Myth" , Eusebius and others, again we are looking here for Bible prediction fulfilled, the historicity of Jesus, or not, is for another thread.
