  the insidious bind the watchtower religion places on their members is unconscionable.. holding family and friends "hostage" as an extortion strategy may be their most potent weapon of enforced conformity.. .

  in effect, like an armed criminal who points a gun at you and threatens "your money or your life", the watchtower leadership.

  holds the power to separate dissenting members from those whom they most cherish.

  Every persons leaving experience will be different, and its effect on that person. For a true believing born-in who wakes up and leaves it must be doubly difficult, as the above experience shows ,many such are ill-equipped for the journey ahead.

  I view my leaving the borg much like it must have been for those who left the U.K in the fifties on the deal where you paid only ten pounds for your one way ticket to a new life in Australia. As the ship left the port, perhaps family and friends were there to wave good-bye, but even so, good-bye meant for life.

  New friends had to be made by the "whingeing Poms" as the old country may well never be visited again. You may possibly see your family a bit over the years, but you couldn't count on it.

  Every family is different, and if you are unfortunate enough to be DF'd you will be permanantly in "Australia". But it may not be as bad as some think, if you can fade and just seem inactive you can keep family relationships going to a degree, the old "friends", probably not.

  The shun may be the gun, but if we can remove the abject fear from some, they may just walk away and not suffer too much.

  should you investigate other religions?.

  i had attended christian meetings for nearly a year, and i enjoyed telling others about gods kingdom, says miguel, who is now one of jehovahs witnesses in south america.

  then i started listening to religious programs on the radio and watching religious preachers on television.

  If one has the "Truth" from "God's word the Bible" as JW's claim, you are not going to be swayed by patently false teachings which are not in the bible.

  So, what is the problem ? Obviously it is exactly as the thread title outlines, and hence too their ever shriller screaming against "Apostates". If an apostate posits an idea that is biblically incorrect, or puts forward a false story, they could print what the apostate said, and their riposte.

  Have you noticed they never do ? Funny that.

  They do not seem able to "make a defense before everyone who demands of you a reason for the hope in you" 1Pet 3v15

  I suppose you cannot defend the indefensible.

  Failed Marriages..."Born ins"

  it is impossible to unweave the complex cobweb of a failed marriage and totally understand it, let alone to generalize the occurance for many other couples.

  but, let's assume the case of a marriage of two typical jw born-ins.

  as far as jw's go, they grew up without major disfunction, still talk to their parents, etc.. in cases like this, how many of these couples are still together?

  Such ones, where it is a marriage between two JW clans, have more to lose, probably ,on both sides, all of their close and even close-ish relatives are in, and of course all of their mutual "friends".

  It takes tremendous strength of character to get out of that situation, but the marriage can still, in reality be a failure, with neither partner happy.

  I was thinking of another statistic that I am aware of, and that is a number who left or were DF'd many years ago and married a non-witness, many of these are still together and seem happy. You don't hear about those when you are in the Borg.

  What is latest WT quote on donating blood ?

  i no longer have access to wt lit or cd, as i burned all my bound volumes one day in disgust, and don't have a cd.. so could someone kindly post the latest on donating of blood, not simply that it is forbidden, but the latest where they say why they hold this position.. if i remember rightly, it was based entirely on the o.t injunction about "pouring out" the blood of a slain animal, but i need to be sure before i question jw's on this.. many thanks in advance, if you are able to help..

  So could someone kindly post the latest on donating of blood, not simply that it is forbidden, but the latest where they say why they hold this position.

  If I remember rightly, it was based entirely on the O.T injunction about "pouring out" the blood of a slain animal, but I need to be sure before I question JW's on this.

  1925 and 1975 were not the basis for their claim to be God's Oganization. They could let them fade.

  1914 is different, they are stuck with it, they have no other claim to authority.

  Time is their enemy on this, the further in the past it becomes the more JW's will ask "Wot's 1914 all abaht den ?" and as we know it doesn't stand up to any scrutiny as a teaching, it isn't even a good lie.

  A good lie is close to the truth, and sounds plausible, the 1914 tosh is neither.

  Why is the Memorial so important to JWs?

  seriously.... there's a meeting where wt dogma is taught... nothing unusual there.... they pass around bread and wine and in the vast majority of khs no one at all partakes.. if anything, it is a pantomime of wt teaching that the "great crowd" of "other sheep" have no part in the blood and body of christ.. hardly something to celebrate....
