Where it all went wrong for the WT - JF Rutherford

i was thinking a bit about this the other day.

ct russell, from what i remember about him, kinda seemed like a genuine, nice(ish) guy, although he had a few eccentric but harmless ideas.. during the russell era jws (actually bible students) could still celebrate christmas, worship in other churches if there was no kingdom hall available, and accept blood transfusions.. then after russell died, along came rutherford - a major league a-hole, for sure.. rutherford had plenty of eccentric ideas but at least some of them weren't/aren't harmless.

some have been long forgotten about - jesus depicted without a beard, the plan to rename the names of the week because names such as thursday (thor's day) is pagan, the articles about the 'dangers' of aluminium, etc.. one key contribution of rutherford which does a lot of harm is no blood transfusions, even in life-threatening situations.. another is shunning, something which never occurred under russell, or at least was much milder.. rutherford has a lot to answer for, i reckon ....

From JF Facts Site " It was not until the 1950's that the Watchtower specifically outlined its censorship of blood transfusions , over 80 years after the commencement of the Watchtower Society. If the doctrine on blood is such a critical doctrine, one must wonder why God would wait so many decades before revealing it as such through the Watchtower."

Rutherford laid the foundation for this murderous, unscriptural Doctrine to develop, by stating that the Law to Noah on Blood was binding on all humans. Franz. F. was the mover behind the 1950's finalisation of a death sentence for many J.W's ,including children.

Bring on the YOUNG elders

there seems to be a push to fast track the younger men to become elders.

beings jesus was 30 when he took up his ministry, i would think that would sort of be an age gauge...the older men were to have their children in subjection, so some were old enough to have children that were old enough to want to rebel.

( that's my slant ) how will the ones who have been jw for years respond to being counseled by those younger than some of their grandchildren?

I guess this is a repeat of a similar push that took place in the late 80's or early 90's, I forget exactly when.

All around the Circuit, and I guess Countrywide, young fellers were made Elder or MS, guys who had been knocking at the door, trying to get the status, for years. This seemed to be as a precursor to forming new Congos. splitting the big ones into two, or three even, then selling off K.H's where they could. This memory comes from before the later operation which got even more K.H's sold off.

This was looked upon with some disdain and suspicion by the older or long serving J.W's, they knew these guys had not been considered up to the mark for a good while, and all of a sudden, the C.O visits, and a dozen new Appointments ? Why didn't the Holy Spirit appoint these guys before ? They had not changed, or suddenly become more "spiritual".

I guess now such appointments are being made because the older Elders and M.S's are no longer serving. But it is pure desperation, and a further dumbing down of the "Religion".

Did you ever meet someone born in the 1800’s?

i met freddie franz who was born in the 1880’s and many others from the 1880’s.

but as a very small child i remember someone very old aged 106 and that person was born around 1856 which means that he was around people from the 1700’s..

I met my grandparents, and a great Aunt, all born in the 1800's. But they all died before I was four.

New and improved?

i have a family member who had been df'ed for 15 years or so...recently they reinstated as a jw.

when i asked what motivated them to make that decision, the response was to be able to see family and old friends.

they insisted that things were different now.

One Elder a while ago tried to sell the religion back to me, he knew I had always been a keen student of the Bible, so he said the religion had changed, well, being on here, I knew that ! but he added "We now use the Bible much more than when you left" Ha Ha Ha.

They may or may not quote more cherry picked verses, but of course they still twist Scripture, and don't of course ever admit that the Bible cannot be taken literally, is not the word of god, and is about 95% pure Fiction.

How far do we get away from 1914

how far do we get away from 1914 before they have a new light and admit it was all wrong?.

they cling to the old theory of the 77 week prophecy from the wrong date that jerusalem was destroyed .

with the overlapping generations nonsense still we are getting too far away from 1914. what will they say if we get to the 2030s and they still cling to 1914?.

They are stuck with 1914 for a while yet, as they have to keep the idea of an imminent Armageddon in the minds of J.W's, or many more would leave.

They have debated at the top level many times over the decades how to extricate themselves from the 1914 nonsense, and came up with nothing that would work to keep the Org. going for perpetuity. Hence the stop-gap Overlapping Generation nonsense.

The REAL problem they have is simply expressed as :

No 1914 = No choosing by Jesus in 1919 = The Governing Body are self-appointed Charlatans.

I have no doubt they will extricate themselves from this impasse, but mainly by burying the teachings in a miasma of "New Light", until 1914 is as forgotten and irrelevant as Russell's Pyramidology.

Free Will - Does It or Does It Not Exist?

being born-in and raised as one of jehovah's witnesses i remember a common theme or phrases used by the watchtower in its theory of why things are the way they are -.

jehovah created humans.

jehovah created humans as free moral agents.

Free Will and Determinism will be debated by every generation of Philosophers.

Neither, it seems, exist in the absolute, determinism does not seem to fit in with Quantum Mechanics, and so many factors affect our choices that we cannot say we are truly Free, or that our Will is something that we control 100%.

But we DO have choices, we need the strength of character to make good ones.

Ali Millar

hi all.. a news article regarding ali millar popped up on abc here in australia.. some of you folks in the uk may have heard of her.. she has released a book entitled 'the last days'.

I have just finished reading Ali's excellent Book, I cannot praise it enough !

It is as easy to read as a Novel in some ways, it is amazing how she bares her very Soul, and shows what a terrible effect the teachings of the J.W's have on the mind and emotions of a young child, to such a degree, that the fears and pain remain long in to adulthood.

It reads like Poetry in a good number of places, she writes with great skill, evoking the places she has lived, the people she has met, but never holding back on things that were mistakes, or her own emotional responses.

Her exposition of what it is like to live in the J.W enclosed world, and how difficult it is to enter the "foreign" world of normal people is the best I have ever read.

Needless to say the J.W. spokesperson Tom Pecipajkovski lies about what being a Witness is like, with the usual not quite "half-truths" about each JW following their own conscience. The truth of the matter is J.W's are not ALLOWED to have their own conscience !

Get hold of a Copy, it will be the best Book you will read this year !

Was you or your family ever a local needs talk subject?

our family was always a topic on a local needs talk.

but it was funny when the brothers needed money they would come with their hands out.

this is when we lived in the states.

I doubt I ever featured in such a talk, the Elders could not work out why I had left !

I remember one such talk a good few years back, and because I knew what it was about, and who, due to Elder gossip, I understood it. It concerned a person, never baptised, who only came along a few times, but the Eldubs found out a bit about the person's past, and present living arrangements, but of course could do nothing about it !

After this pointless Talk, most of the Congo. went around saying, "What on Earth was all that about ? ".

Elder Arrangement

comments from those associated when the elder arrangement was introduced would help me with a research paper.. what was the reaction among adherents?

Where was the Holy Spirit in all this ? absent on leave ? Evidently the H.S is even further away from the Org. these days.

Two Elders came to my door, a few years after I had left, the younger of the two, newly appointed, told me the Governing Body had asked them to call on me, as if THAT half-truth would impress me.

The older of the two got on to the matter of DFing people, somehow, and I said "Well, you can't DF me, I have never been a part of the religion as it is now, you J.W's have changed all the fundamental teachings ! ". I was referring mainly to the laughable overlapping generation nonsense.

I think if you left before that change, what I said is a good thing to say, telling them they no longer have any power over you.

I concur with the advice not to D.A. For anyone ! when you first leave it is tempting, to get some closure, but the J.W's do not suffer if you do it, you do.
