  JW Lawyer in Norway uses "theocratic warfare" to conceal the org's controlling language!

  in the org's vocabulary, the term "independent thinking" is applied pejoratively to any jw who thinks & reasons for themselves.

  the org's lawyer knew exactly what he was doing in court when he voiced his carefully prepared words:.

  "watchtowers lawyer anders ryssdal compares jehovah’s witnesses’ baptism to the norwegian state church’s confirmation of 15-year-olds, arguing that their baptism is no different.

  The Akedah

  the genesis 22 episode, often referred to as the akedah (aqueda) ie "the binding" is a topic worthy a masterclass in textual and theological development.

  a comprehensive discussion regarding this development would involve volumes and still leave much to be uncertain.

  in short, the internal contradictions the narrative offers as it appears in genesis have inspired millennia of interpretive expansions and elaborations.

  Thanks for the Book recommendation P.P. I will get round to reading it in a while, but at present I am busy sorting out a trip to Ireland in a couple of weeks time, plus I am writing a Novel, and need to add a few Chapters before presenting basically half a Novel to my Mentor, a dear friend who I call my adopted Grandson, a Writer and Film Director, so his advice will be invaluable.

  i hope his advice does not come down to "Give up the idea of Writing a Novel, and take up Tiddly-Winks !"

  "On Tuesday the Synod, the Church of England's governing body, voted overwhelmingly for a less independent option which will see the creation of an independent central safeguarding team, but with local diocesan and cathedral safeguarding officers remaining with their current church employers.

  Dr Grenfell told the BBC: "On the one hand I'm really disappointed, as were many, that Synod missed the opportunity to send an unequivocal message to victims and survivors and the wider nation that we hear their pain and concerns.

  "On the other hand, what we did vote to get on with, an independent scrutiny body, is actually quite a big step forward in itself.

  "But we need to do that further work around operational independence, and I'm really committed to doing that."

  The Synod had been expected to vote on the fully-independent model proposed by Prof Alexis Jay, who previously chaired the national Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, and barrister Sarah Wilkinson.

  But following an amendment, the Prof Jay-backed model was not voted on at all, and an alternative was adopted."

  We have all noted the obvious, but unexplainable reluctance of the Org. to adopt any measures that would actually work, we can all give good ideas as to why, and are probably right.

  In view of that reluctance, I don't see them adopting any measures until forced to by Law, and then they will not be adopted Organisation wide, but piecemeal, Country by Country. The CofE as Jan says above, have adopted a good number of measures, and I bet they apply to C of E Churches wherever they are. They are debating the idea of an Independent Body to assess their efforts.

  The VERY LAST thing the Org. will want, or will adopt, will be using such an Independent Body, and again will only do so if required by Law.

  They really are a disgusting lot, no love, concern or action to protect the Vulnerable, every protection for Paedophiles and other Abusers !

  Thanks PP, at first I had a wry smile at the fact that you had this under the Thread Title "Daniel made simple" as it seemed at first glance to make matters more complicated !

  But the ideas you reference , of the Book we have in our Bibles as being a collection, makes sense of so much, especially the language change, a section in Aramaic, then back to Hebrew which I could never fully understand.

  It seems then that there never was an original "Book of Daniel" as we used to think, but that a lot of Texts existed that used the same literary device to interpret the vicissitudes that occurred to Israel and Judah in different periods, every new Ruler who came along and subjugated them was explained using this method.

  And so an attempt to reconstruct an "Original" Book of Daniel is doomed to failure.

  Characteristics of a Cult - Heaven's Gate

  chacteristics of a cult - by my count, wt ticks 9 of the 12 boxes.

  last night i watched a really interesting video (link below) put out by an ex-mormon site discussing the heaven's gate cult.

  the person interviewed had a unique perspective in that he had firsthand contact with that group, specifically the house they lived in and the aftermath.

  " I tick all 12 of them too." And me, I cannot see that any of those 12 do not apply to the J.W org. at least in some measure.

  The one that jumped out at me was No 6 "Lack of Transparent Financials" that is SO true, we have already had it exposed on here some years ago how their Creative Accounting ALWAYS left a "deficit" at the start of every Convention from the previous one.

  I bet the Creative Accounting that has gone on for many decades at H.Q would be a nightmare for even the best Forensic Accountants to unravel, but if they could, they could explain the Missing $ Billions.

  Every year for all those decades in reality the Org. has spent very little, whilst taking in a fortune from donations, and most years making Profits from the Property business they run.

  So where has all that money gone ? The Cayman Islands and similar Tax Havens I would guess.

  with islam being one of the fastest-growing religions in the uk, there’s more need for mosques.

  so when an old church goes up for sale, it’s not exactly surprising that someone might want to turn it into a mosque.
