Remember the most fun time I had was back in the 70's when I was a late teen. Stayed with a friend in a hotel. Can't remember a single thing about the assemly but after we had huge fun. We made friends with a whole bunch of local youngsters and they drove us to their get togethers in the evenings. One was at someones house... a huge house, and the parents had laid on a big party complete with live band on their terrace! The next night we met up with loads of other youngsters at a pub down by the river and some of them had guitars and were playing and singing lots of good songs like beatles stuff etc. There was lots of eyeing up the local talent too... LOL

Pronouncing it RIGHT
by Christ Alone inwhat rules do you follow when pronouncing foreign names/places/things?
i was remembering that when we were studying the daniel book for the book study back in the day, someone released a pronunciation guide.
i remember studying it closely so i could pronounce all the names right (especially on the section of daniel 11).

One thing that grates on me is everyone pronouncing names the American way and not the English way. If I was in America then fine but pleeeease... not in the UK!

I'm in the same boat in a way. Hubby is an elder, which makes it very hard for me. Fortunately he believes freedom of choice is important but it has changed the dynamics of our relationship. I'm no longer the 'woman he married'.
I you want to keep together you may have to make some concessions. Could you accompany her to some meetings and assemblies, even if only one day? Let her know that your faith in God, Christ and the bible is just as strong. It's only your faith in men that has gone. She'll be feeling shaken and unsure, not knowing who you are anymore. Let her know that you haven't changed as a person. Try doing a family study with her but say you only want you to read the bible itself together, without WT publications. Maybe read the gospels or Paul's writings. This is what I do with my hubby, even though I have to bite my tongue sometimes when he comes out with JWisms.
It's hard, it takes effort and sometimes is very frustrating but it's worth it if you want to keep your family together.

Jehovah's Witnesses View of Jesus Compared to the Early Church
by cofty inthe following is an extract from something i wrote 16 years ago soon after leaving the watchtower.
i am posting it because it may help honest jws consider how far their beliefs are at odds with new testament christians.
if they have "the truth" then their attitude to jesus ought to reflect that of the apostles.

You should go to the jwstruggle forum... this subject has been done to death there. Very interesting though and lots of different viewpoints. One thing about it though it isn't as black and white as JWs make it!

How Many Here Regularly Get Mail From Other Posters?
by minimus ini see comments quite often like, "check your mail.

i usually get a message once every 2 months..

I probably get about 3 a month maybe. Although it did go 3 months without a single one but then I prefer to go on to e-mail if I feel I can trust someone. Messages are not very easy on here. I only e-mail with a few from here.

Are irregular publishers included in the congregation average?
by hoser inany congregation secretary or former.
if a person does not report for the month and is zero hours is this zero included when the average is calculated?.
-
tornapart
My hubby is secretary. Someone is irregular if they miss reporting for a month, inactive if they miss reporting for six months. Yes, irregular publishers are calculated in the cong. average. Chronically sick and elderly publishers can report increments of one hour and still be classed as regular. The report is now sent in well after the 6th now although this is not known by the publishers. It's supposed to be kept quiet. I'm not supposed to know...

Analysis of anti-607 BCE Rebuttals
by Ethos ini agreed yesterday to engage in the '607' topic.
i've read numerous threads and am well aware that this topic has been addressed and dissected quite thoroughly.
therefore, if you are uninterested in participating, that's fine.

Stronger Christian presence on JWN?
by Christ Alone ini've only been a member here for a short time, but it seems like there are more christians on the board lately.
for the first few months that i was on jwn, it appeared that there were very few that argued in favor of a creator and belief in the bible in particular.
there seems to be several more that have recently joined...or at least posted more regularly regarding belief.

What I like about you CA is that you're not afraid to get stuck in... unlike me! LOL
I've found some debates really interesting to read even though I haven't given much (if anything) to it.
To be honest.. even Cofty's little gem yesterday was brilliant... who would have guessed it!! hahah
