Did field service ever scare any one.

i was always scared somewhat by who i might meet at the door.. where i live we just had a mom murdered with her two young sons.

it is really sad, from what i just read in the paper the husband and wife took in this young man he was 22 years old and needed a place to stay.

he had been with them for months and had celebrated christmas and thanksgiving with all the family, etc.

In my early teens I had an RV with an older guy who was always in his pjs and his junk would hang out when he sat down. Not sure if he was a pedo but I never went alone, the elders loved that I had this "quirky" old man as an RV. And never EVER took a sister with me.

i was reading pat buchanan's book, "suicide of a superpower".

on page 71, he speaks about the growing acceptance of homosexuality amidst religions.

he claims that 12% of jw's think gay behavior is ok.. really?

8.Jesus died to give Everlasting Life. You have to be willing to DIE for that. DIE to live. Allow your loved ones...even your children to DIE to live. LIFE is cheap and unimportant ..until you DIE for it.

That's a variant on what my dad used to tell us during our family study when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. He'd bring up accounts of brothers who went to prison rather than renounce their faith and he constantly told us we'd better be prepared to go to prison if we wanted to please Jehovah. I always had the feeling the cops would be by any minute to arrest us. He never made family study an enjoyable time, ever.

My sister got pregnant when she was sixteen and my nephew was born with a correctable birth defect. My dad told us kids (I was nine) that he had the birth defect because she had him out of wedlock. I thought all kids born to unwed parents had some birth defect even if you couldn't see it.

i'm an atheist but i've recently been curious enough to sit quietly on the hard wooden pews of a local and very simple english village church - it was sweet, humble and surprisingly calming.. now, how exactly is this monstrosity supposed to motivate anyone?!.

what does it tell us about the mentality of the religions leaders?

When they remodeled the hall I went to in the 90s one of the sisters imposed her decorating taste on the interior. This was when you put those strips of patterned paper on the edges of the walls so you could cover up where the drywall met the ceiling. It had a dark border with some stupid leaf pattern running up the center. There was literally miles of this plastered everywhere because the KH was huge. It looked like her dining room.
