if you were a CO, would you appoint an elder with a shady past that you were aware of? I wouldnt imagine even the WTS would question the CO's ruling as just this mechanism in place could make the WTS culpable. The CO calls it, yay or nay. Done.

The WTS just gets a notification of the appointment or removal

the CO stands to lose everything he owns and will earn for many years to come. This includes his own house. The CO might be able to obtain bankruptcy, but then the bankrtupcy judge will make the CO pay as much as he can from his assets and then for, most likely, 5 years afterwards.

CO's rarely own anything anyway. Those that do will likely be able to protect this under a legal dept approved "donation" system that they will get back after they complete their term in some form or another

The REAL reason for the elder and ms appointment change......

as seen in recent posts, beginning later this year appointments and deletions of elders and ms will only happen through the circuit overseer.

this means that individual congregations and elders have no say anymore.

if the gb want only certain people in or out, they tell the co and he makes it happen.

IMO, it would be short sighted or naive for WT to believe it can avoid culpability by assigning blame on the C/O.

legal dept has this all sorted out.

there will be all kinds of legalese and formality written into some CO procedural document that utilizes some arms-length loop-hole that disassociates legal liability from the WTS.

I believe the elimination of DO's is tied up with this new arrangment somehow also.

even the renaming of Districts into Regions could be part of the thing that creates a "new" something-or-other that gives the WTS a platform for creating this legal separation.

this has been written by lawyers and legal consultants over years of reviews and evaluations.

Absolutely this new arrangement will have AT THE VERY LEAST the benefit of sheilding the WTS assets from legal liability. With all this work, I am sure there are other benefits as well

a +ve for wtbts.

apostates will have less fuel for the fire, with regard to forcible refurbishments and the pricing thereof.

now there is less transparency with regard to there business practices.. on the -ve for the kh.

I honestly believe gone are the days of forcible refurbishments and quick builds with this new funding strategy.

I disagree. The WTS doesn't want their tax free asset base losing its capital value. Just the opposite, they are going to force upgrades and refurbs as strictly or more so than in the past.

and with every improvement comes a "suggested" donation increase by the CO, who now has the power to oust any non-conforrming elder(s).

The reality is, donation arrangement or not, if your cong's donation isn't where its required to be the CO will make sure the body knows it.

"god loves you, he hates violence, he hates bad things happening to good people, he wants you all to be jw memebers...or he will kill you all at the big loving armageddon!!!!!!!

All that is required is to place the crackers and wine on a table and let any who want to partake come forward and nibble their own personal cracker and drink from their own glass of wine

the actual act of "passing" has obvious signifigance. Back "in the day" everyone would have partaken. I guess around 1931-1935 when the "closing of the call" was made up and the other sheep class was invented, then those (perhaps few) that did not partake would have passed the emblems along to the next person.

in my lifetime i have never seen a person partake, ever. Yet at some point in time the act of "passing" developed its own signifigance. As long as I can remember, being at the memorial had life and death signifigance. Even DF'd people showed up, and if anyone dared to not attend a memorial even a DF'd person, this is veiwed with absolute disdain. Yet as proven by this recent memorial, the memorial itself is merely a tradition of the BOrg, it tickles the ears and eyes of the "observers" while having no signifigance at all

i was on this board a lot when i faded and left 6 years ago but not been on much since.

is there any thread/s in particular to read showing the changes in the past 5 years?

or any kind willing person who has time to summarise them as a reply below??

-Russel is no longer of the F&DS
-Jesus' 2nd coming now has 2 parts, one in 1914 as King, and one at the (yet future) Great Tribulation as Judge

-after the 2nd part of his 2nd coming, the remaining 144,000 will be raptured to heaven

-after the rapture an "unkown period of time" will follow during which the judging of the sheep and the goats will occur and THAT will be followed by the actual armageddon

-a few years old now, but there is no longer any closing of "the call" meaning anyone can now claim they are anointed and the number of anointed has increased from just over 8000 to over 13,000. But as Jgnat pointed out, being anointed doesn't mean anything special anymore since only the Governing Body have the power as the F&DS

thats also my reccomendation for a great movie.. anyway it would be fun to compile a list of actors, that have portrayed jesus and how it effected our perception of jesus..
