Hooberus...Revelation was the work of at least two hands. The first living when the second temple was still standing (some suggest 69CE)and the final redactor about 96-98CE. I think the Christian scholar Richard Friedman shares this deduction.

A little history on the Bible
by gumby init's always intresting to hear the answers you get from people about how and when the bible was formed.
many minds go only as far as believing it was simply a compilation of god ordained books that we have to this day.
below is just a small bit of information that many may not be familiar with.

Neonmadman...Due to the fact that we have no manuscripts older than the 4th century and this is the period of redaction by the Roman Church thee late additions to the text are generally recognised thru textural and grammatical anomolies and anachronisms. In a few cases we are lucky enuf to have church writers coments and quotations that provide proof that a text once read differently than the Received Text. The Matt 28 verse is one of these. Eusebius quoted thw verse something like 18 times, and in every case his version did not include the trinitarian formula. His verse ended with "in my name". Additional evidence is available. Even one early writer flaty rejecting the wording of this verse in the Textus Receptus as being a Gnostic perversion. I can not remember all the details but it is a fairly well known interpolation. Do a word search and I will as well, it's been a while.

"Daniel" personally knew the length of the exile? huh? Aside from the overt apologetics of this statement, it seems to ignore the 49 year duration of the desolation of Jerusalem described in the 70 weeks "prophecy".

Gumby...I respectfully suggest that you have done what many of us did and modified the doctrine to satisfy your own feelings on the subject. My wife and I likewise actually taught and began to believe the WT had said that some nonJWs will survive Armagedon, but we were lying to ourselves and the public. Maybe like Alan said we were asshamed of the official teaching. I can remember no instance where they said anything that could be understood as superceeding the hardline answer that unless you are baptised and active "marked for survival" you will be toast. To suggest that some would be judged favorably dispite practicing "false religion" would dilute even absolve the RandF from the 'bloodguilt' trip that effectively compells them to waste their Saturday mornings. I opened by saying, like Alan, that they don't come clean on this point at the JW official website but even there they never suggest that non-JWs will survive Armagedon.

The trinity doctrine developed post 300ce as the jws contend. However they dismiss the fact that a dualistic notion that ascribed godship to jesus was endorsed by the writer of John and the redactor of Revelation. Later additions to the text such as At Matt 28,"father son and holy spitit" and 1 John 5:7 were made by Catholic editors early to late 4th century to support the new and improved version of Jesus. (ie trinity).

The best book I have yet seen on the overview of archeaololgy and the Bible is called ," The Bible Unearthed". Fantastic objective review of recent findings and how they have forced an extensive revision of 19th and early 20th century opinion. Written by two eminent scholars, it has cautiously avoided wild speculation and anti-bible diatribe.

Michael..You must have new light. The WT has never suggested that those who do not get preached to and so therefore do not attatch themselves to the Organization will survive Armagedon. The community responsiblity excuse is used to justify this god killing billions of people whose governments restricted the work of JWs. The consistant teaching is that unless a person gets baptised as a JW and is actively sharing in the preaching work to the extent possible, as deemed by god, they will die at Armagedon and depart into "everlating cutting off". At the Wt public relations web site they attempt conceal this doctrine.

Men create gods in their image. As cultures change thru education and exposure to new philosophies naturally their ideas about the imagined spirit world change with them. This why no one clear impression of the God of the authors can be formed when reading the Bible. The Bible simply reflects the growing sophistication and broadening world view that occured among the Jewish peoples thru interaction with the Babylonians, Persians and Greeks.
