Poll: When my PIMI wife comes back from meeting. she is a different person. how many out there experience the same and why?

so i am trying to understand if i am the only pomo that experiences the situation where the pimi spouse comes back from a meeting a different personanlity.

it may not be obivious to the untrained eye, but i notice it and i know my sons notice it.

this last round after all the loyalty bs and armagedon bs it's like she has stayed stuck in it.

I tend to see this more when they come back from the conventions. I remember after the last one I attended, 2015 my brother in law telling me on the Sunday evening that he's going to quit his job and pioneer, and he was full of euphoria. Not surprising due to the around of propaganda videos they show nowadays.

If your PIMI wife stopped attending meetings for a while, perhaps due to a long holiday abroad she'd also gradually become a different person. In a good sense. I found my low moods and guilt evaporated when I stopped attending meetings and reading the literature.

The Craziness of an Average Bible Study

last week i posted a thread asking about who knew any "real anointed" and got some cracking replies.. that got me to thinking, as someone brought up in the 70's and 80's in the watchtower religion, my experience of bible studeis in their homes and those who made it to the hall were mostly batshit crazy or at least people with some serious quirks.. i'll relate a few, none of whose names i remember with any clarity.. in our cong we had an older couple who were from london, but who had been in the 1950's in the circuit work in the mid west usa.

they brought along some woman one night they had started a study with who told everyone cheerfully she was a recovering alcoholic and this was her cure (coming to the meetings).

this went on for a few weeks until one night they brought her to the memorial and she was royally pissed, and i mean barely able to stand; and went up to the platform table and necked some wine.

I remember a few.

On guy who used to think you could ask god a question then flip open the bible at a random page and stick a pin it and it’d give you the answer. I remember he used to wear a shirt and tie and a leather waistcoat to the KH.

A man and woman who, despite being married, live in separate houses but turn up to the meetings together. She would only wear clothes from charity shops and used to take things out of rubbish tips and hoard them in her house. I always felt sorry for her husband. He seemed a nice decent bloke but obviously was stuck with her.

One guy was studying and after a while claimed he was anointed (not even baptized). This progressed to him claiming to be Jesus brother, then Jesus himself. Last I heard he was claiming to be part of “the godhead” and had special powers. I really hope he’s still attending.

i'm a first time poster and i apologize if this topic has been discussed before.

when i met my wife she was disfellowshiped and were happy, got married, and had a kid.

after we had our daughter she got reinstated so her family and her jw "friends" could spend time with our daughter.

Been in your (similar) shoes mate. My ex was still JW when I woke up and left. I found the best solution was not to mention or talk about religion or god at all and just be the cool dad. Birthdays, Christmas, whatever. No kid is gonna actively choose the boring JW way of life when given the option of the real world.

As for meeting attendance, there's little you can do when she's with her mum. But encourage the kid to keep asking questions.

Did You Know Any "Genuine"" Old School Anointed?

growing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.

in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.

thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.

Joe Gibson from the old days in Liverpool. He was already dead by the time I was born in 1984 but in the late 80s and early 90s he was still talked about. Only ever saw one photo of him sitting in Manchester City football ground where we used to have conventions back then. He lived to about 95yo.

The fact that he was still talked about shows how few and far between "the annointed" were back then.

Nowadays they're ten a penny I hear.

Why are they buying names and addresses?

apparently the jws of coventry, england, have been spending their congregation's money buying names and addresses from the local council.

i wonder what they want them for and is this something that each congregation does?

i'm curious now.

When I worked in immigration and was in the Polish group, I was asked by the elder running it if i'd kindly make a list of names and addresses of Polish people in Liverpool.

I told him it's against the law. He replied "who's law?"

I never did it. And I'm glad I never did. Even though I was a zealout back then it stank of underhandedness.

So the Witnesses still believe in rapture

according today's watchtower, all the remaining ones of the anointed ones will be in heaven when the great tribulation breaks to join jesus in the battle against evil.

the watchtower was making the point that at that time god's organization will be ran by members of the 'other sheep'.

it didn't say how these remaining ones find themselves in heaven, but presumably they will be taken, i.e.

And so it goes on. The next step is immortalizing the dead GB like the North Koreans do with Kim il Sung.

There's lot of young people just like her who get no media attention at all. I dont know why she of all people got to be the face of enviromentalism.

She's young and feels passionate about something and I think it's good that someone speaks out for something that they genuinely believe.

But she doesnt make me want to start using paper bags or carrying around my own bottle to fill up at work. Greta has zero effect on my way of dealing with the enviroment. I mean, seriously, are we all to stop travelling by plane and get on a boat now?
