Whatever happened to the "written review"?
by pale.emperor indoes anyone know why the written review was stopped?
i relished the half hour silence they'd give you to "write down your answers", time i spend doodling or thinking up cool song lyrics..

Only stumbled upon this letter today:
Apparently, the father of Bobby Kennedy's killer was accused of being a JW. Watchtower had to write a letter assuring the rank and file and he wasnt.
What i think is rather childish though, is rather than simply stating that "he wasnt a JW", they take the opportunity to link other religions to:
...the First Nazarene Church of Pasadena, California, sponsored the Sirhan family in their move to the United States, but Mrs. Sirhan attends the Presbyterian Church now.
Bishara Sirhan, who has consistently denied reported of connections with Jehovah's Witnesses, insists he is Greek Orthodox.
Look, i'd be the first to laugh at the suggestion that Watchtower society, for all it's faults, would be involved with anything like assassination. But in defending their position i wouldn't name other religions that have helped the Sirhan family. It'd serve no purpose. The religion of Sirhan's parents has no bearings on what the guy did.
At least is resulted in some cancelled subscriptions anyway :)

Family Insists on Having Relationship with My Child -_-
by Cimarrona inhi gang, i'm a single mother of an 8 month old baby boy.
i've been df'd for over six years now.
my parents are super dubs and most of my siblings are dubs (on paper - a couple have been inactive my entire life but still claim to believe) with the exception of a brother who was never baptized.

We did allow them the time with the kids until the kids started coming home saying "Jehovah doesn't like that", "Jehovah doesn't like birthdays...Christmas".
Same here. My 3yo daughter is secretly palmed off to my mother (who tells people im dead) by my ex-wife. At xmas time she randomly told me "Jehovah doesnt like Christmas". Fortunately, i acted surprised and said "doesnt he? well thats alright because i like it. Do you like it?" and she said yes. Now i say "it's ok, Jehovah's not real. He's just pretend".
I think your boy would be better off without them. Think about it, they have a toxic belief system. If your boy ever did join the JWs (heaven forbid!) and then left they'd all drop him like a hot brick.
My family haven't spoke to me in 2 years but nag my ex wife to see my daughter. She doesn't really like going there but my brother tells me she's been handing her over every couple of weeks. As long as the kid is with you more than the JWs i think you'll be ok provided you call bullshit on any JW crap they come out with. And reason with the child (something JWs wont do, allow critique and inquiry into their doctrine).

Dear Paley, they already told the Sheeple not to think for themselves in the September 2007 Kingdom Ministry.
I was still a JW then. I dont remember that. But then again, i was a 22yo virgin dating a 17yo virgin so my mind was probably on "other things" during the meeting.
Does the faithful and discreet slave endorse independent groups of Witnesses who meet together to engage in Scriptural research or debate? — Matt.24:45, 47.
No, it does not. And yet, in various parts of the world, a few associates of our organization have formed groups to do independent research on Bible-related subjects. Some have pursued an independent group study of Biblical Hebrew and Greek so as to analyze the accuracy of the New World Translation. Others explore scientific subjects related to the Bible. They have created Web sites and chat rooms for the purpose of exchanging and debating their views. They have also held conferences and produced publications to present their findings and to supplement what is provided at our Christian meetings and through our literature. So your own beliefs are not even up for discussion or debate? "New
shitelight is to be accepted without even knowing why? The audacity of all this is astounding.Reading the above it looks like all non-Society approved websites are to be prohibited also. Do the R&F even realize this?

Calling Cofty and others regarding evolution
by dubstepped inso i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.
i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.
i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

As an engineer trained to evaluate systems within systems within systems, whose functions are complementary and contribute to a complex array of diverse cooperative functions, the design of all life on Planet Earth is found to be incredibly complicated. The thought that all of this beautiful, productive life which covers the Planet just came into existence without an extremely intelligent guiding hand is incomprehensible.
Wouldn't that mean that God him/herself is even more complex than the Universe and therefore would also need an even more complex creator, and so on and so on etc?

Anxiety, OCD, Hoarding, and the JWs
by Spiral ini'm noticing what seems to be a higher incidence of the above among the local jws than in the "general" (read: worldly) population.
i don't say this lightly, my wanderings around the fringes of jw society locally is revealing an alarming trend here.
the poverty doesn't help (there are good jobs, but you need a degree or qualifications to get one).. anyone else see this?

My ex-wife is a chronic OCD sufferer. Im talking plastic on her couch, eating food over the sink, disposable cutlery etc. I dont think Watchtower caused her OCD but it definitely magnified it.
She and her mother both have red scabby skin around the eyes, elbows, scalp and behind the ears. My ex-wife's condition vanished when she stopped going out on the ministry and reduced her meeting attendance. She also doesn't study anymore.
In my case i was having anxiety attacks in the final two years of my JW life. At the time i didn't know what was causing it. I would feel like i was about to throw up so would have to walk around, pacing up and down corridors or outside singing or talking to myself to distract my mind until it passed. Sometimes i'd have to leave the KH and walk round the block for an hour. One thing i found that 100% worked was watching porn for 2 mins. BAM! distracted and anxiety gone.
When i finally left woke up to Watchtower indoctrination the anxiety disappeared. I was still going along with the facade trying to fade but i was a lot happier.
Funny thing is. My girlfriend has lately been having anxiety attacks due to being a fulltime teacher and studying for her Ph.D. I told her the porn distraction thing i did and she tried it and it worked for her too.
So, in my case, Porn was actually helpful to my mental health and not toxic like Watchtower claimed so many times in their rags. The Watchtower however, was toxic to my mental health.
(P.S. In no way am i advocating porn for everyone. I know it can be an addiction for some people)

Did You Go To Meetings in Very Inclement Weather?
by minimus inliving in new england means having lots of snow and cold.
elders were very reluctant to cancel or reschedule a meeting due to the weather.
i lived 3 towns away from the kingdom hall and if it was icy and treacherous my vote would always be to cancel the meeting....and forget about rescheduling!.

Meetings, my family went in all weather. Rain, sleet, hail, snow, blistering heat, strong wind... it didn't matter... and we WALKED the mile there. My parents didnt own a car until i was about 14.
My worst JW experience with weather was actually only 5 years ago. It was snowing heavily and strong wind. Snow was about 8 inches deep and slushy so you're shoes were soaking wet (as were your feet) and fucking cold.
EVERYONE including the CO decided to cancel the ministry and all went back to a rich brothers house for tea and cakes and a massive buffet. Unfortunately, i was working with a hard-ball elder who still went out and he was my lift home so i was stuck. We did 2 hours and got only ONE person in. And even then that person told us we were stupid being out in this weather and slammed the door on us.
Back then i had no balls. I was a "good" JW who thought the elders were personally chosen by God (ha!) so i never complained out loud.

The Perfect Storm in 2018?
by Wild_Thing ini have been sadly watching as the number of jws in other countries are decreasing (for the most part), while the numbers in the us are strangely increasing.
while i question the organization's self reporting numbers, i think 2018 may be the year for another mass us exodus.
leah remini's show will be focusing on jws in her show on a&e.

I don’t think many JWs will watch the show, the GB don’t even have to command them not to watch it, most would be too terrified of ***apostasy?!!!*** on their TV screen. I know I was when I was a JW. Coming on here for the first time when I was a doubter I was terrified and my heart pounding as I was reading. Even then I didn’t stay longer than a minute before praying to Jehovah for forgiveness etc. But two years later I woke up and came back again.
If they do watch it’ll be a massive seed like another poster has said. Some may watch simply so they can refute the arguments. So im hoping there’s not going to be an exaggeration or deliberate misquotes to give the JWs something to point at and claim it’s a lie.
