The Evolution Of The Watchtower Cult

Since waking up from the cult I've been curious about where the cult is going and how will it end up? Will it fizzle out or become a little fringe "religion" like Plymouth Bretheren or the Shakers?
We've already seen the cult evolve from:
- CT Russell being the faithful and discreet slave
- Worshiping Jesus and Jehovah
- Vaccines discourages, blood transfusions lauded
- Rutherford being the faithful and discreet slave
- Worshiping only Jehovah
- Blood transfusions banned, vaccines lauded
- Blood transfusions revised to "fractions" and a conscience matter
- The 144,000 being the faithful and discreet slave
- Armageddon before 2000
- Armageddon within an overlapping generation
- The governing body being the faithful and discreet slave
- The governing body helpers being around to run the show when the GB are "in heaven"
Of course, these are all passed off as "refinements" or "revised understandings" but really what we're seeing is a "religion" that doesnt know it's ass from it's elbow reacting to the times.
My personal prediction is that we'll see another splinter. Either some GB members will start their own cult or when the GB are dead and the GB helpers get to run things they'll blame the old failings on the current GB of Lett, Morriss and Co.
- CT Russell being the faithful and discreet slave

What happens to Bethelites?
by rickroll inso if someone puts their life into serving the cult for free at bethel, then say after 25 or 30 years they are not able to for one reason or another such as illness, or family issue or old age, does the cult have any safety net for these people or is it you serve until you can't and when you can't you just go away?

In the 70s - 90s there was a celebrity couple that the entire circuit fawned over because they were missionaries in Thailand and slaved over there since the early 80s. The guys sister was in my congregation so they visited once a year.
Now that they're in their early 70s they've unceremoniously been removed from Thailand and are "normal" members of the congregation. No more fawning, no more special attention. It's a good thing this is the UK and they get a pension. But that's it. No savings, no nest egg, no insurance. I see them on the carts every now and then holding magazines for no one to take.
Very sad in deed. What a waste of a life.

I always think if I knew 3 years ago what I know now I'd simply take a long vacation with my wife. 2-4 weeks. Away from meetings and literature. Away from the cult meetings and propaganda the mind gets time to think. 3 weeks in say I'm not going anymore and simply say I'm going to live a good life and be the best person I can be and be kind to all - can anyone fault you on that?
But yh, as others have said, dont give them the power. Leave on your own terms mate.

Did you EVER falsify your report card ?
by Chook inevery single watchtower soldier lied to god out of fear of the brooklyn popes..

I used to put my real hours on there until I was about 20 years old but then one Thursday evening a "local needs" talk was given in which the asshole elder read out a report slip "from young one" that was 4 hours then said a 70yo member of the congregation reported 40 hours. It was a shaming talk.
From then on my report slip was a work of art. Always 10+ hours a month, about 7 books placed, 20-30 mags and 4 return visits or thereabout. I did that for about 10 years!
It was a tissue of lies. And that's just mine. How many others around the world were/are doing that? The boasting reports from Bethel are meaningless.

I'm shunned by:
1 parent (my mother, father died 15 years ago)
2 sisters
3 brothers in law
1 sister in law
4 neices
1 nephew
3 uncles
3 aunts
3 cousins
That's all the family I have. My overly-zealous parents cut off all non-JW family before I was born.

Another Doctrinal Flip-Flop As Of Oct 2019 - RE: Locusts In Joel 2
by pale.emperor init's seems that even the revised edition of the book revelation: it's grand climax a hand was wrong again.. in the 2019 agm david splane "clarified our understanding of the prophecy recorded in joel 2".
clarified?
you mean he done a 180 reversal.. from revelation: it's grand climax a hand page 143, para.

It's very easy to attach meaning to anything that happens. Hell, I could read Revelation and attach personal life events to each chapter "symbolically".

November 2019 Watchtower (Would love to hear the comments in the hall)
by pleaseresearch infrom the november 2019 watchtower study edition.. how many of you would like to know what the brothers and sisters would respond to this question.
also, if you went into a hall how would you like to respond to the question.. 8. how should we respond to lies?.
8 satan, “the father of the lie,” uses those under his control to spread lies about jehovah and about our brothers and sisters.

Since leaving and not reading their literature it strikes me as odd now how cult-y and mind controlling the writing style is. It tells the reader what to think by wording it as if they already think that way:
Because we have faith in Jehovah and we trust our brothers. In fact, we avoid all contact with apostates. We do not allow anyone or anything, including curiosity, to draw us into arguing with them.
Hive mind mentality at it's finest.

In the 2019 AGM David Splane "clarified our understanding of the prophecy recorded in Joel 2". Clarified? You mean he done a 180 reversal.
From Revelation: It's Grand Climax A Hand page 143, para. 5
Reasonably, we could expect Joel’s prophecy to have a final fulfillment in the time of the end. How true this has proved to be! At the Bible Students’ convention at Cedar Point, Ohio, U.S.A., September 1-8, 1919, a notable outpouring of Jehovah’s spirit activated his people to organize a global campaign of preaching. Of all professed Christians, they alone, recognizing that Jesus had been enthroned as heavenly King, spared no effort in publishing abroad that good news. Their relentless witnessing, in fulfillment of prophecy, became as a tormenting plague to apostate Christendom.
From Watchtower 15th April 2009:
The prophet Joel compared the activity of Jehovah’s servants to the actions of locusts. He wrote: “Like powerful men they run. Like men of war they go up a wall. And they go each one in his own ways, and they do not alter their paths. And one another they do not shove. As an able-bodied man in his course, they keep going; and should some fall even among the missiles, the others do not break off course.” How well this prophecy describes modern-day proclaimers of God’s Kingdom! No “wall” of opposition has been able to stop their preaching. Rather, they imitate Jesus, who persisted in doing God’s will even though he was despised by many. True, some Christians have ‘fallen among the missiles’ by being put to death as martyrs for their faith. Still, the preaching work has continued, and the number of Kingdom proclaimers keeps growing. In fact, persecution has often served to spread the good news to people who would not otherwise have heard the Kingdom message. In your personal ministry, have you demonstrated perseverance like that of the locust—even in the face of indifference and opposition?
The prophet Joel compared the activity of Jehovah’s servants to the actions of locusts? Joel did this? Not the GB?!!
Now? It appears the the GB now agree with what actual theologians and bible scholars have been saying for centuries - namely, that the locusts are enemies of God’s people.
