Was leaving easy for you?
by Preston ini was contemplating today on how easy it was for me to leave the congregation compared to what many people here had to deal with.
i mean, all the letters, judicial committees, family breakdowns were not really something i had to deal with.
the worst thing i had to deal with was when a couple of elders inquired if i ever "acted on" my being gay.

Physically leaving was not only easy but it was natural. I left mentally well before I left physically. The hardest thing was the remanants of guilt and shame that I have been slowly sifting.
What I have tried the hardest to do is not go 180 degrees just because it was opposite of the hurtful cult.
I still think there is beauty in truth even if it is only in the pursuit of truth.

Breast implants: Question for men.
by Martini init is estimated that working women will on a yearly basis spend approximately $5,800.00 to adorn themselves, perhaps a breakdown is as follows:.
1. cosmetic stuff ( make up ) approx $500.00.
2. hair care approx $800.00.

Great question. I would rather they spend less than a thousand dollars on such outward stuff and use the rest to be interesting. Music lessons, Art courses, mind expansion class, etc. my God, Women, although smooth and great to touch, can be insidiously boring.
Thanks

Of course many women can be added to the list above, Georgia O'Keefe was an accomplished artist(great colors!) and Alice Miller was to me the greatest psychologist of our time. But why are the "Greatest of the great" the famed ones, are always the men?

Product Advice - Digital Cameras
by Celtic indo any of you know anything about digital cameras, as i need some advice on buying one.. the family are in the antiquarian print and map dealing business.
many of the old steel engravings are black and white with very fine detail, ink clarity in various stages due to fade out from age, early 1600's - 1860's.. we are looking to put some of these images onto the internet in specialised hosting communities that deal with this business.
image size flat is from a few inches square to 24"x20"+.. which camera would be particularly well suited to the purpose and which features would we be needing ideally?

Mark, goodnews. The price of Digital cameras is very low right now.
I bought a digital camera last year to take pictures of the faux finishing and european plastering I do. It was great. I just show the pictures to people after putting digital chip in my laptop.Anyways, the best advice I can give to you is to research through the internet. Some sites are very unbiased and let people review them and they will give you an overall rating. You can get this and much technical spec. info. at www.Bestbuy.com. Of course if you use your search engine you can get load of info.
As for me I use the sony cybershot with an advanced zoom lens.
Hope this helped

Should I call the local elders
by joelbear inwitnesses always say if you have questions, you should discuss them with the local elders.. most of you have seen over the past few days, the 5 or 6 questions which led me to leave the witnesses and take up my hedonistic lifestyle.. should i call the elders and give them a chance to answer my questions?
i've asked my father some of them, but it always turns into an argument and upsets my mother too much for me to really pursue the discussion as far as i would like.. just to reiterate.. my questions are:.
1. is there a logical explanation of god's justice system for the universe, which includes all sentient creatures and how they are judged?.

JoelBear, how r u dude?
Thanks for sharing your questions and asking for advice. All the replies here are great. I think you would know best if seeking the local elders help is a good idea. Do you know what the local elders are like? Are there any that can look beyond the normal and can show sympathy. Many here have had bad experiences with elders within J.W.'s so I can understand the direction of their advice. I on the otherhand have ,for some reason or another, had very cool and reasonable elders to deal with even in my slow departure from the Witness fold. They are still there for me.
Sometimes we ask questions to see if anybody out there cares and sometimes to find truth, sometimes both. I hope you find both.
I was an elder and I can give you an idea of the answers if you would like. Let me know. If not you could use the C.D. watchtower. Of course this would tell you the J.W. official stand on these issues. And if thats what you are looking for then perhaps you can find them there.
Keep on asking questions Joel, often they are more important than the Answer. There is truth in the quest for truth.

NBA fans please read
by perfectpie inwhile drinking beer and gin/tonics at a sports bar, my friend and i argued over who the best nba team would be.
please give us some help and tell who you think would win this game in a best of 7 series in a neutral court.
keep in mind that all the players are in their prime and consider how these would play as a unit as much as their career stats.

You probably have your own pick for best team but say who you think would win and in how many games.
One team is:
Center- Shaq
small forward- Kevin Garnett
power forward- Dennis Rodman
point guard- Jason Kidd
shooting guard- JordanThe other team is:

How we Know that Evolution is a Fact
by JanH inthere has been a number of threads related to evolution in the last month or so.
some posters, like penn, subscribes to a form of creationism, which i for this purpose will define as denial of large scale evolution (sometimes called macro-evolution).. even saner people sometimes alleges that scientists are unnecessarily 'dogmatic' about evolution, and that this is 'just a theory.
' these people may be recent exjws or jws, still believing the watchtower propaganda against evolutionary science, or accepting similar claims from various fundamentalist preachers and groups.

Abaddon the destroyer, the terminator. very cool.
Yes, perhaps I need a little of this evolution force to improve my manners. Hum. Great line on the spitting coffee on your screen bloody good.
Yes, I have read modern books on evolution. There are so many today it's hard to keep up. I've been spending most of my reading time recently on physics and the sort.
I used the Darwin quote because for me that point he made has still not changed and his book "orgin of species" did so much to mold the common thinking on evolution. I am still not convinced that such small micro-evolution within species gives evidence of speciation.
The threads some posted on here didn't convince me either.
Your post have been excellent and I have learned the most from them, especially your takes on prions.
If you could pick the most definitive modern book on evolution could you give me a recommendation.
Thanks 3.14
P.S. have you ever heard of the "Golden Mean"
Now put the coffee down...

What do you think about Evolution debates?
by rem inwhat do you think about evolution debates?.
this is not going to be a thread about which theory is correct.
i want to ask the board if anyone has actually found these discussions on evolution to be beneficial to themselves.

Rem, "Are you losing your religion" or do you just like deep sleep?
Just kidding.Great takes and great post.
I feel over all they are postive. Perhaps the only negative with these life origins has been my temerous name calling. I was vexed only in the clones and their unfair assumptions.
I love different viewpoints. What I still can't understand is how the evolutionist here think that if you believe in creation, that you have denied the facts and can't think well. Maybe someone just has a different conclusion of the same facts.
What really scares me are many people who seem to latch onto this teaching to assuage themselves just to fully break free from Watchtower rigidness. I don't congrue with the Watchtower in toto yet I won't mindlessly go 180 just to feel free.
But again I don't know this, I probably don't even know myself, but it kills me when everybody else promulgates such all knowingness on the thinking of someone who believes in creation.
Thanks for the take and great quote
