They never worked for me when I was a JW. Back then, I got a lot more of what I thought was comfort by reading the WT. The promises of God were always filtered through my performance as a Christian publisher. Now, I have direct access. It is awesome to experience the closeness and enormity of God.

Did you ever volunteer at or visit Bethel? What were your impressions when you were in the WBTS vs. now (looking back)?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique indid you ever volunteer/visit bethel back when you were in the borg?
at the time, it opended my eyes as i saw a lot of red flags.
for instance, volunteers were kept so busy without reasonable accomodations that everyone became in a robotic-zombie state of compliance with an unreasonably strict fast pased schedule.

Went to Bethel several times and ate with the bethelites. Didn't see anything unusual other than everthing being highly organized. We got a private tour from a young black brother who was a real comedian. Went up on the rooftop and got a good view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Several other people were hanging out there that night.

Isaiah 41:13 ESV
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
John 16:33 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Psalm 23:1-6
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. ...
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Matthew 6:25-7:29
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ...
Deuteronomy 31:8
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 25:1-22
Of David. To you, O Lord , I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O Lord ; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. ...
John 14:1-31
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself,
1 Corinthians 14:33
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
Romans 8:39
Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I experienced almost exactly what Paul experienced shortly after getting born again. My cousin sugggested that I pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and so I did. A few days later, my spirit left my body and went to heaven and I gave supernatural testimony there on a stage behind a golden podium. I had the very uniqe experiece of actually being in two places at the same time.
At will, I could think with my physical mind in my bed or with my spirit mind in heaven. Yet, both were "me". This happened every night for nearly a week. I now have absolute proof that we do indeed possess a spirit/soul and at the same time we are a spirit/soul. Since that is true, it is totally proper to speak of having a spirit or soul and being a spirit or soul. The bible uses both types of phraseology.
Since I have experienced it for myself, there is no way anyone will ever be able to tell me that our spirit or soul doesn't survive the death of the body.
I had never read the scriptures that you cite above until sometime after this event. Apparently this kind of thing happens from time to time among Christians. Nothing like this has happened to me since, and that was around 8 years ago.
I thank God my soul is secure and hidden in the blood of Christ who died for me.

Do you have any "one-liners" for drive-by witnessing?
by Faithful Witness ini am looking for things i can say in passing, when i meet some of my jw friends.
we used to attend meetings, but have not been officially recognized yet, as apostates.
we were good and curious students, but fell away and were choked out by weeds.. since i will be renewing my bible student status soon, i am hoping this will open more windows into the organization.

If you can show me only one New Testament scripture that shows how a person can get their sins forgiven outside of the New Covenant, I'm ready to get baptized.... is it a deal?

Watchtower Society Has Systemically, Methodically Over The Years, Caused All JWs Diabolically To Worship Watchtower Headquarters Leadership [or G.B.]!
by bjc2read in(of course, this will be "old news" to many of you...but, this is especially written for the "newbies" who may not know of the following.).
... i was just wondering .... .
i remember back when i was very active among the jehovah's witnesses, the watchtower society recommended a special procedure they used to do to put pressure upon bible studies of jehovah's witnesses by doing something they called: "directing attention to the organization.

It's just plain 'ole idolatry... attributing something to a person, place or thing that belongs to God.

All people die. Sin separates them from the Source of Life. Jesus built a bridge back to the Source of Life. God causes Life. Sin causes death.

This is the traditional Christian view of what happened to your spirit when you died prior to Jesus' death payment. You either went to Paradise or Tartarus, both were different parts of Hell (Hades). During the three days Jesus was dead, he went to Hell and liberated the Paradise portion of Hell (Hades), and those spirits went to Heaven to await the resurrection of their bodies but now enjoyed direct fellowship with God through the blood-atoning value of Jesus.
What Paul experienced was actually being in two places at the same time. His body was alive and breathing on earth while his spirit was supernaturally briefly taken to heaven. That is why he didn't know quite what happened.

Did Jesus really exist?
by slimboyfat ini had been wondering over the past few years whether there really was a historical jesus at all, until a few months ago when i read bart ehrman's latest book "did jesus exist?
" initially i was persuaded by his argument that the nt contains multiple sources that testify to jesus' existence.
but more recently i have been reading the christ myth position of richard carrier and his responses to ehrman.

The whole world started counting time from the birth of a man who never lived?
I don't think so. Rather, the whole world started counting time from the birth of a man that not only lived... but lived TWICE.
