Literal should be the mindset when reading the bible.
Someone once said: "If the plain sense makes sense, do try to change it because you might end up with non-sense"
has anyone ever met any members of this group?.
i met a lovely lady who was telling me all about it.. apparently everything in the bible is literal, and it rather disconcerted me just how much i rememberd if it all.. everytime i asked do you mean that everything is literally true, apparently it is so..... she is a genuineky sincere, well meaning lady, and had a lovely time telling me all about it!.

well, i have finally got rid of my baptism cards.
the congratulations cards....the wt ones, the ones with sheep on etc.... all gone.
they dated back to 23/09/2000.. has anyone else "purged" their witness past this way?.
I had a nice bonfire in my back yard using every scrap of WT literature I could find which was quite a library. Soon after lighting it I turned away because someone was talking to me about something. When I turned my head back to look at the fire a snake about 18 inches long was lumped over one of the books dead as can be.
I have no idea how that snake got there, probably got smoked out of the brush under the books and died trying to get away. It was an appropriate sign nonetheless.
as i was growing up in a household with my grandparents, i heard a certain phrase hundreds of times, "well, you know what they say .
and i wondered: "who are "they"?.
it was my first encounter with shapeless, formless, invisible, abstract, non-descript, and anonymous authority.. the premise seemed to say:.
Thank for highlighting this truth Steve.
This is not the Western way of war handed down to western civilization from the Greeks and through the Romans. Pitched battles are not an option with this enemy. Fighting cowards takes a different strategy.
hi guys, i don't really post on here much anymore, having been on here since 2001. this site helped me out in the early days and has been a great support system for all of my past jw issues.
like many others i was discouraged from an education so that i could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's.
having spent many years post my jw exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, i decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending aa, i was still a window cleaner ... at the time i wrote extensively on here about my issues.
That's great news!
I finished my college days as an older student just before I started posting here in 2001. It was a time of growth and learning. I was a businessman before college, studied Sociology and was very active with my professors off campus and on, then went back to business. It was a nice break from the money/sales grind.

So true. And, even a broken clock gives true time twice a day.
so, i had an unexpected encounter with a jw today.
she was the caregiver who came to work to relieve me and she pulled out a jw.org tract and i told her i knew all about it because my family were part of it and i see it everywhere on their fb.
i, without thinking about the consequences, told her that i used to be one and now go to a baptist church.
.... what rjharris said.

Truth is not an absolute
Are you absolutely sure?
i am currently an skeptic, but i have to admit that i can't assure that all the stuff of early christianity was false.. for instance, we know that the genuine letters of paul were written before the destruction of jerusalem.
so, paul affirmed that jesus resurrected, though he was not there when it supposedly happened.
but, if jesus did not resurrect, why didn't the jews expose this falsehood?.
Jesus didn't stay dead. This was the lighning rod that set the Roman world on fire through EYE WITNESS TESTIMONY.
