articles about homosexuality in the "young people ask" section.
i had just come out recently and read the articles.
Nicolosi is also the darling of the right-wing fundamentalists. Even Nicolosi admited in an interview that homosexual desires are still present with alledged ex-gays -- they're supposed to "suppress" them and sublimate with a vagina while they fantasize about men. You know, the old "there is no elephant in the livingroom."

barbara grizzuti harrison, who emerged as a popular, prolific writer of keenly observed nonfiction with a 1978 book about the dozen years she spent as a jehovah's witness, died on wednesday at a hospice in manhattan.
she was 67 and lived in the park slope neighborhood of brooklyn.. the cause was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said her daughter, anna harrison.
I just read it in the NY Times (hardcopy). They gave her prominent space: above the fold with a pull quote and photo. What an amazing woman.

Re: the little dog. You just think he was saved. Upon arriving home the man gave the little dog a bath and when attempting to dry the dog's rather long fur, discovered the hair dryer had been stolen in the robbery -- but the crooks had left the microwave. So, the man stuck little Fluffy in ... and ... horror of horrors ... the dog blew up. No kiddin'.

Well, Joel, it could be the obvious -- as Elvis said, you're a "hunk-a-hunk of burnin' love!" There are those gorgeous guys who tend to induce ovulation among estrogen-crazed women. And brother, maybe that's you!
Or, it could be your sensuality transcends gender and women believe you are really latent heterosexual. And they're dying to be your first and go where no woman has gone before!

Customers with those butch boots, tight jeans, muscles bulging under a T-shirt -- all held together with a tool belt. I fall in love everytime I walk past that section where they have the great big pieces of wood stuff and nail stuff ...

Hey, I think I've heard this one before ... only it was from some televangelist's wife. I was surfing the TV when I came upon the story ... seems the man in the park was close to suicide because he was going blind and his house had been robbed by drug dealers while he had been at the doctor's office. The teen-ager urged him to accept Jesus as his personal (notice, not personnel) savior. Well, miracles of miracles, the guy was "saved" and had his vision problem healed. Of course, he never got the mayonaise and eggs back.
My question is: Why doesn't Jesus do more of this magic in Third World countries?

i was watching law and order svu and they were trying to catch this guy on murder and rape, but they needed his dna.
when they went to swab his inner check, he said he could not do that because he was a jw.
i think the show got it wrong, i never remember being told as a jw that i could not give up dna samples, anyone know?
I saw the show last night. The suspect didn't want to give a swab sample -- and by law he didn't have to. He was obviously being glib when saying he couldn't because he was a Jehovah's Witness. If he was a JW -- the guy probably had his congregational privileges restricted since the guy proved to have a long history of murder and rape. Just my observation.

i have only two close friends who are witnesses that i care about.
i would like to share my feelings with them and still not get dfd.
do you think it is possible or should i forget it.
If not getting DF'd is something you'd like to maintain -- I'd be extremely careful. To criticize or question the society is something most witnesses feel they have to report, or at least share with elders when out in service. And most of us know where that can lead -- can you say "elder inquisition"? I'd say be true to yourself, be authentic, and let the chips fall where they may.
I had many dear friends after a lifetime of being witness -- but when I left, I realized just how DYSFUNCTIONAL many of these families were. So, I made new caring friends with whom I could be honest and trusting.

in a conversation with my son, we were going over all the young people he grew up with that were jws.
there seemed to be an inordinate proportion of felons among them, compared to the "worldly" people in his school.
and also compared to the people at work that i know whose kids are doing fine now.. our tentative theory is that raising kids as jws can be very damaging to many of them.
I believe there were two types of JW children when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s -- you had your repressed, artificial, Stepford kids who behaved like automatons and then you had your gangster Satan spawn. I, unfortunately, was of the previous.
I agree, it is an inauthentic life. What is on the surface is not what is in the heart. All that emotional duplicity takes its toll. Most all of the "good" kids I knew have left the WTS -- some DF'd or DA'd. Sadly, some even suicided. Same for the bad kids -- jail, drugs, murder. Sad.
What's a mother to do?

Good post. I think the door-to-door work disguised as "preaching the good news" really comes back to the realization that the WTS is a publishing company. It is the distribution of literature that is the important thing -- not people.
How many books and magazines does a religious organization need? What was truth a decade ago ( for example, the "generation" promise) is no longer true. There could be more effective ways of gathering disciples -- doing charitable works, hospitals, feeding the homeless, practicing sincere love and kindnesses to one's neighbor -- but the WTS is so enamored with its construction of a publishing giant that it can't see beyond its presses.
