I can spot a potential trap in one 'deception'. Yes the WTBTS show how various translations of the bible and ancient manuscripts differ to back up current beliefs, such as missing out the Tetragramatton when it was considered too holy to utter, but the idea here is that the BASIC message of the Bible has been preserved, so that the gist of it, ie the kingdom of God AKA the 'Sacred Secret', has always been there for those who would look. A JW would say that the very fact that the Bible is still here is proof of it's preservation. Am I splitting hairs?

Just a small point that I feel some of you out there will leap upon. As I understand it. never have the WTBTS ever said that those who haven't heard the message will be doomed. Isn't the idea that Jehovah will use jis power to look into their hearts and make a judgement based upon what He finds there. If He is omniscient surely He could foreknow how these would respond had they had an opportunity to hear the message!
What I would like to know in a similar vein is, what happens to all the babies at Armageddon? I look forward to some comments.

District Assembly Instructions
by RubaDub inam i too thin-skinned or does anyone find that annual km insert dealing with the district assembly offensive???.
i mean, having to read and comment on those same things every year about not cooking in your hotel room, not to steal food if breakfast is offered, not to poop in the sinks, or whatever they say.
if you have to give those "reminders," it makes you wonder about the people you are sitting next to during the sessions.. *****rub a dub

Rubadub,
I think you are quite right. For the majority of people it is offensive to have to review "reminders" that presume you are an imbecile, but then I guess there are a lot of imbeciles out there!! I notice that every year there is a warning about 'appropriate dress' (ie not as if you are on the beach) but how many singles (and not so singles) do you see who treat District Assemblies as a meat market by wearing as little as possible and may as well write 'I'm up for it' across their foreheads.

things said at funeral
by petespal2002 insome weeks ago i attended the funeral of a jw sister.
the service was taken by a brother who claims to be of the anointed, although he holds no position in the congregation.. at one point he looked directly at one of the elders in attendance and said, pointedly, "it does not matter what religion you claim to belong to.
you could be catholic, lds, adventist, jw, or even the pope himself, but if you do not demonstrate love as jesus did you are not a true disciple and will not benefit from the biblical hope of ressurection.".

Plenty of astute comments from you all, friends.
The brother in question is much older than the elders and has been a thorn in their side for some time. He says what he thinks, one of his favorites being "if it's in the Bible I believe it, if it's from the elders. I don't!" He holds to many thoughts not "officially" sanctioned by the WTBTS but which make a hell of a lot of sense. He'd be great in this forum, but I think even he would find that a bridge too far. Shame.
Each weekend he goes preaching in the inner cities, much against the cong. directives. Lot's more I could tell you about him, but I think he has an attitude that is lacking in the society and that is one reason why forums such as this arise. Where is the love??? Nowhere, often!!!!

Fornication or loving intimacy???
by Raisputin inso, my question is (and i am posting this on the other board as well for any that know me there).. what is the difference between "fornication" and "loving intimacy"?
by loving intimacy, yes i am still talking about sex, but i am speaking of sex between two people that care about each other and are in a relationship of some sort as opposed to a one-night stand..... for me the difference would be:.
"fornication": 1 night stand.

Just my twopenneth.
A collegue of mine is a Catholic. Very catholic. He has been widowed for some years. We worked very closely together on many joint projects, and came to know each other well as people. In fact we grew to love each other, and said as much. However never once was there any physical contact of any sort between us.
He then, out of the blue, severed all contact with me, saying he was violating his religious beliefs by feeling love for me and felt as if he had already commited an act of fornication. This to me was a ridiculous waste of a nuturing friendship, of a kind that is all too rare today. Religion that causes people to sever ties over possible developments has much to answer for!!!

While to a point I agree with this sentiment was is not an amazing thing to say at the funeral. The elder to whom it was directed turned all sorts of colours and looked as if his ears would blow off.
What do you think?!!!!

Would some of us be better off as Witnesses?
by Jerry Bergman ini have often wondered if many people would be better off if they stayed witnesses.
some people i have known have really gone off the deep end after they left the watchtower.
most all of my family have left now (not due to me as i was cut off from them for years) and many others i know who have left are now bitter atheists or have become pagans and worship stones or new ageers playing with crystals.

"Sex is great married or not married. When I found out this I found out there was no God"
I beg your pardon but what planet is this statement from? I fail to see any connection here at all. Someone also wrote "I'd rather worship a rock thatn be dumb as one" To believe or to have written the opening sentance I think you would have to be "as dumb as a rock."
I presume then that sex is a purely evelutionary product to keep the species going. Why do humans find it pleasurable when animals only copulate to reproduce.

New Trek Flick
by LongHauler inhas anyone gone to startrek.com and downloaded the new trailer?

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 10-27 WT Study
by blondie in" why not, they better get used to it because that is what the elders do.
god is definitely near but the elders will be far away.. logical reasoning.
in conclusion, do the jws really teach gods word or the truth about god?

But why are the "Show love" JW's disappearing? Where along the line did doctrine change so that all one has to do is go out? Why would the GB put out WT articles like this if they didn't intend the membership to shape-up in it's effectiveness? Surely they would just encourage them to go out. The suggestions on the back of the Kingdom Ministry are stilted, but the assumption is made that people are intelligent enough to put them in their own words so they sound natural. Perhaps an unwise assumption! Personally I don't think the "show love" types are vanishing, rather the "I'm too thick/lazy/unintersted enough to make an effort" types are coming to the fore.
Loved episode of The Simpsons where Marge desperately wants someone to come and ring her new doorbell, sees two JW's heading her way, then they don't ring, saying to each other, "I wonder if our unsolicited visits annoy the householders."
