stress related illness
by petespal2002 inis it only me, or does there seem to be a higher than normal percentage rate of stress and anxiety related illnesses within the congregations?.
could it be that thay feel they have to attend all meetings, be regular in the field ministry etc.
as well as holding down a job, caring for a family and day to day stresses and strains?

Look at all the literature from the 50's and 60's. This proves the society believe peoples attention spans are shortening, or they assume we are all getting dumber. Who today would happily study the Babylon book, or a WT article witn noooo pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Back then also topics tended towards the more doctrinal, wheras today they are more lifestyle related, ie. how you should be living it.

Why do they bury people that commit suicide?
by Blue inif they think suicide is so wrong and then drive people to it by disfellowshipping them or threatening them with disfellowshipping

Dawn,
I was just saying that one would have to be an incredibly stupid, heartless person to choose cremation simply to avoid paying for a stone, as Blue insinuated all JW's do, and to indicate I am sure no one in their right mind would do this. The point of the statement was to prove how wrong I felt Blue was here. I understand some choose cremation as the cheapest option as a matter of simply being financially sound, and would wish this for myself. I would not wish to prove a financial burden upon my nearest and dearest in the unhappy event, with funeral costs spiralling upwards as they are. No disrespect was meant, and I hope you see that now.

Blue,
I have to totally disagree with you here. Maybe some incredibly heartless, thick, cretinous morons choose cremation to avoid paying for a stone, but this is certainly not a general trait of JW's, but then according to you they are all personally God anyway. Does an ex-jw really refer to them as a jehovah? I have heard some moving funeral service that were definately not designed to bring people into the religion. But even if that motivation is there a little and the deceased on was an active dub, surely their own wishes woud be in that regard' if they've spent their life trying to recruit people, why not their death? And don't all denominations do this to a degree anyway. Just by reffering to a faith in public could be thought of as advertising!

I did not mean to imply that you personally were justifying your actions, just trying to make a generality using an example I know of. Don't dfshp yourself, that would be too sad[:)
I think you have exactly got it when you talk of a chicken and egg dilemma. I guess in one way it depends who you want to hurt the least in the long run, your wife or yourself. I imagine in the outworkings of time your wife would remarry a 'good' jw, as long as she had been given the 'right' reason for divorcing you.
I know of one instance where a 'good' ministerial servant with an unbelieving spouse so desperately wanted a complete family within the 'truth'. To cut a long story short, he fell in love with a pioneer sister, they both got dfshpd for adultery, their respective partners divorced them, they married each other, and in the fullness of time were reinstated and serve in a different cong but with their old roles back. So in a convoluted way he got what he desired. But was this a good way to go about it? Who knows. The irony here is that after said brother's wife divorced him she began to study and is now an active witness in their original congregation. So if he had been patient he also may have got what he wanted without all the hastle! However, when asked why he had chosen the path he had, the reply was, "you can't help who you fall in love with." Maybe that, then, is the bottom line.
