Minimus doesn't receive direct inspiration from God?
Dang, now I gotta rethink this whole leaving the JW thing.
(and btw - I happen to think he's a pretty wise individual, he just doesn't want any of you to know that)

some of you will remember that i occasionally brag on my dear friend, jann, who has been such a wonderful, caring friend to me since i moved to michigan from ontario over 10 years ago and whose love and support i could not have done without recently when my mother fell ill and then died.
(rayzor is a cheerleader of hers, too!
) well, ten days ago, she finally joined the forum as "kidneybean," a reference to her new lease on life since last august thanks to an organ donor.
((((Jann)))) - I had started a thread a couple of days too!
Here's the link!
i knew many people in the congregation that were dealt with terribly.
but most times, people were afraid to talk to the elders or were afraid they might get shunned by the more prominent ones in the congregation.
so they closed their eyes to their own friends being treated poorly and carried on as if nothing really was happening.
That's what I love about being a Brummie biatch - the security of it all *sighs & looks lovingly up at the kitty*

lol @ pope!
desib's arrival thread got me thinking (along with some kind words from special k).. when i first came here, i was so happy to see so many others with shared experiences and issues of the jw's, yet sad at the same time to know that there were so many.
i spent alot of time here in the beginning.
even though i had been out of the jw's for almost 16 years at the time, i found the time i was spending here i was "dwelling" or going back to my own painful experiences.
Walter:
BTW, we missed you on the weekend Petty!!!
I didn't get the message you guys left - I heard the first 3 words & the rest was blank. How'd it go?

The part that is tempting to dwell on is my separation from relatives still on the inside. That's the part that is hardest to get over. But the beliefs, practices and hypocrisy of the organization -- it's a part of what I experienced and it doesn't bother to me to talk or write about it. It's actually a relief to be able to come here and "get it off my chest" or share with others who have also experienced some of these same thing
Very understandable. When we have loved ones that we are separated from because of this religion, it is easy to "dwell" on the negative impact of the situation.
I have very little contact with my mother. I am "dead" to her, by her own words, because of her faith. Eventually, I also had a "funeral". A funeral for relationships that were lost (mother & siblings). I had to let my perceptions of what those relationships were supposed to be go - I had to let them die. Now, whatever scraps are left of any type of relationship - it's just become what it is. I find life is a lot easier to live when I accept what it is and buried what it was supposed to be.

I wasn't really "dealing" with them. Actually, that had already been done.
So, in the time that you've spent here - are you dealing or dwelling? The very quality of your own life probably depends on your answer.
well, i've posted a few topics already and responded to a few.
and spoke with some of you.
well i just wanted to give you a little background on me.
Welcome to the Forum Freddy!
Glad to hear that you were able to keep your family intact during this process - there are so many here who have lost so much! Perhaps your comments & experience will help some of them realize the same dream!
Look forward to hearing more of your thoughts!
(i don't know how to put posters on here, so my partner will place links here very soon: http://www.fatherstouch.com/ )

Welcome to the Board Desi!!!
The first thing you may wish to do is draw up a "list" of the things that don't "sit right" with you, or that you feel the JW's are wrong about. Then, research it. In my own experience, I have found that what feels "spiritually" right to me comes from little bits & pieces of all religions.
Beliefnet.com is a great place to find other religious opinions (even JW's) regarding doctrine. And since it is religiously neutral, it's an excellent resource.
Finally, remember, the JW's preach & teach that we should be "testing" all things we're learning as JW's. Now, their slant on what testing is might be a little different, as you're only supposed to do that through the resources they provide. But in all honesty, what do you think God would want you to do? I believe Jesus only true admonition regarding "beliefs" was to keep following him.
