the following is what really irritates me:.

AMEN to the irritating slow drivers in the fast lane
The drivers that speed up when you're trying to pass them
The morons that think the car length you've left between yourself & the car ahead is an invitation for them to scoot on in..slow down & never get out of your way

i was raised as a jw but from about 8 years of age i left at the age of 18 having never actualy believed anything about what i was being taught , that was about 28 years ago.
my mother is still one of them so i guess its never completley left my thoughts.

i live here in las vegas and for the past two months, with the expection of formalities like asking for directions and saying hello, i have had no human contact with anyone.

Gil - I definitely think you need to join a group - Gamblers Annoymous sounds right up your ally. Along with dealing with your addiction, you may find others right in your boat.....and real life humans to talk with. There's gotta be a few in Las Vegas, and it doesn't cost any money.
Also, finding a job, any job, in an establishment NOT directed towards gambling would be useful too. I know the job markets tight right now.....but working in "grocery stores" or other sorts of establishments isn't the worst thing that can happen to a person.
My e-mails always open as well....Its not the "same", but its best in a pinch. An e-mail can be as warm and comforting as a real phone call.
if the subject of religion or even jehovah's witnesses ringing your doorbell has come up, do you shy away from talking about ever being a witness?
some have indicated that they felt stupid for ever believing in the watchtower.
others have said they have a responsibility to help others not get involved in this "cult".
I have to agree w/most here - I was more embarrassed as a Witness than I am now. I was extremely shy & introverted, so field service was excrutiatiating, even though I was Pioneering, but I NEVER could begin a conversation w/fellow school mates etc....
Now out, most are shocked to find out I was a JW. But, I gravitated towards friendships with others that had also grown up in cults (Hari Krishna's mostly). They have a much similar background in terms of the way they were raised. It made for interesting spiritual conversations and really opened my eyes to looking at other religions and schools of thought.
Its funny now, but people (i.e. in-laws & hubby) I find I have to defend my JW family's beliefs regularly, especially around holidays. I will still defend their right to believe what they want, but as Patio says, it makes it uncomfortable to be a JW apologist. My hubby many times uses my upbringing as a tease (i.e. aren't you supposed to be more submissive than this??!!!!). It really is kinda humorous now.
some have complained that the bill bowen/ray franz problem is being talked to death, that it's time to move on.
i think that's a little unfair and very unrealistic.
those that continue to comment, comment mostly because the "snow" keeps falling folks!

" many of you insist he is referring to those whose only "sin" is not being a baptized jehovah's witness and their children.
after my experiences on the internet from ajwr to h2o to this forum, however, i'm beginning to appreciate that all is not "black" and "white" but many shades of gray, many hues of stunning colors, and a mixture.. why not use the words killed or executed to describe the fate of these evil people, i asked the co afterwards?

ive been reading these posts and some on other websites for awhile now, trying to figure things out for myself.
im still a jw, a non-believing one if you will.
i more or less grew up as a jw, my father was an alcoholic and my mother became a jw when i was a kid.
i was just reading an article in the seattle times about a new methadone clinic that will be set up lynnwood, washington.
lynnwood is quite literally, across the street from me and most of my shopping/errands are done there.
this is the first i have heard of it and i am surprised it hasn't been more newsworthy than an article in the wednesday edition of the seattle times.
I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this
#1 - Its in a doctors office complex correct (i.e. other doctors offices there)? It isn't as if there will be a huge flashing neon sign saying "drug addicts here", or people standing outside said office building smoking away at their crack pipes or injecting themselves with needles.
#2 - Most people that go to toys-r-us are adults shopping for children. If they have their smaller children in tow, they don't even understand "methadone" anymore than they would understand "obstetrics/gynechology". For the older children, perhaps if they DID understand, then its a good chance to discuss drug abuse issues etc. etc.
Its kinda like group homes for special needs individuals. No one wants them in "their" neighborhood, yet society has a necessity. It always burns my butt when people in our area petition against clinics & group homes for those that have fallen on hard times. Until they've been personally affected, they can't understand the need.
