I'd rather sit for two hours in an OLD hen house, full of chickens, that hadn't been cleaned for a year or two.
Try that some time.

do you still attend the occaisonal meeting with your believing family members?
if so, do you find any value in what's presented?
i still attend the occaisonal sunday meeting with my believing wife in an effort to show my respect for her feelings and my willingness to be tolerant.

this question can best be answered by some old-timers that been around for many years.
i was wondering what did jw's do to people that refused to give up wrong conduct before the 1952 disfellowshipping came into place?
i know that in the 60's people were put on "probation" for wrongdoing but what about unrepentent sinners?
I recall a time in around the 1944 era in San Diego, where a man was condemned as an "EVIL SLAVE".
I believe this involved a difference in perception of some bible teachings and his name was announced and it was stated that "he is now an evil slave."
I don't think they were that obsessed with ones private life at that time.
I was only 9 yrs. at that time so I do not know what procedure they used.

those of you who saw my threads, know that my grandpa was going to die.
you may also remember the fact
that he went from the catholic religion to jw"s, may have had this wrong at first, but in 2003. we discussed the fact
Well Cindykp, I am glad that things at the memorial turned out to be more kind and loving than you expected.
As for your going back to the org., I will give the same advice.
Hold your head high and treat people as they ought to be treated.
When Questions arise, and they will, come visit us and the more scholerly ones here "not me" can give you a wealth of information.
Also, keep us posted as to how things go and the reactions of others as you attend the K dum hall.
Best wishes, Outoftheorg
i just had a flashback that reminded me of one of the only times i saw my elder-father somewhat "fed up" with his fellow brethren.
once upon a time, my father had some sort of first-aid badge from his workplace.
he was assigned the task of managing the first ais station at the circuit assembly.
I don't know if it is state laws or federal that regulate first responders.
In Idaho para medics are allowed to deliver some medications and have radio contact with an MD for the more critical situations.
Emergency medical techs in Idaho in remote areas have some kind of way to deliver meds if they have recieved backing by an md, even if not in radio contact. I think it is if the md trusts their knowledge. In some areas response is an hour or more away and life flight is used but they don't want to respond unless a medic calls them.
At least that is what I was told.
But the whole thing, all of the medical providers are liable for law suits for almost anything.

In the late 1970s I had a station wagon and since my now ex wife was an RN. I was also an elder at this time.
So they asked us to man the first aid station. We were given all kinds of cautions as to what we could do and not do.
We set up what the wbts would let us and could see that it was almost nothing. They wanted me to use my wagon as an ambulance. I said NO. The local fire station and para medics are only about a mile away and I will call them for an emergency. I had a hell of a time getting them to see the advantage.
It was like I was calling the government into the assembly.
We noticed that there were several elderly who had heart problems, so at the elders/co meeting I suggested that we purchase a small oxygen tank and mask. No risks with this and it is the first thing a heart attack victim may need.
You would have thought I wanted to buy an x ray machine or something. The elder I viewed as the village idiot screams NO WE DON'T WANT SECOND AID HERE and the C O a real captain wierdo also cries out WE DON'T NEED SECOND AID HERE.
I reminded them that the worldly people provide this type of protection at base ball or rodeos, are we going to provide our own, less than that?
They acted like I had crapped on the holy spirit. With the wbts it is all smoke and mirrors.

after seeing all the new people from wisconsin today i decided to come out of my lurker mode.
i have been practically obsessed with this board since i discovered it, and i give everyone here credit for helping my husband and i leave the borg.
i had been in 11 years, and my husband 27 years, along with our 3 small children.
Well hello yourself, TooOpinionated. Tell us a little about yourself.

i'll try to make the religious story short.
my grandma has been a witness for a really long time.
my grandpa, catholic.
(((((((((((((((((((((((((( cindy )))))))))))))))))))))))
Sorry for the loss of your grandad and the cold reception some will give you.
If you want to go, hold your head high and go.
If you feel the need to hug your grandma, give her a big warm hug.
Behave just the way people OUGHT to behave at times like these.
Ignore the fools and fill your own needs.
Be helpful and caring to your family, even if they don't reply with the same.
This leaves a message & plants a seed that just may blosom some day and free them.
Best wishes and warm thoughts for you Cindy.

let me introduce max.
he's my avitar.
his official name is maxmilian san queue (no tail - he's a manx).
Yeah, we just rescued this little black poodle from the dog pound. He is potty trained. A cute little bugger and loves to be close to us or in our laps.
We let him out about 3 times a day and he does the potty thing in the yard.
Then he comes to the back door and barks. We let him in. Today I had to go as a witness to a court hearing.
Put the dog out on a small chain and when I came back after about 2 hours, he was really glad to see me.
He ran around in the back yard for a time and then I let him in.
Then the little shit went right into the bed room and peed on a throw rug .
He got his nose rubbed in the pee and a spanking on his little butt.
Do ya think that will work?
Outoftheorg wipeing up pee from the rug.
i know there's a lot of elder bashing here.
most of it is quite justified.
i'm curious as to whether all your dealings with the elders were horrible.
Being born into a jw family, I experienced the time before there were elders and after.
They were mostly a non entity as far as I was concerned, until they insisted that I become one. They did insist and I was reluctant.
During that time their behaviour and usefulness, ran the gamut from mentally disturbed to very inteligent, not caring to very caring, helpful to hateful, sensible to no sense at all forgiving to vindictive.
Those that were caring and intelligent were hampered by the rules of the wbts. Those that were dogmatic and hateful loved to use the punitive rules of the wbts. Those in between were shy, confused, afraid of the dogmatic elders and just went along for the ride.
I resigned.

i would like for it to be known that my being apart of jwd has been an experience that has given me hope.
i've come to enjoy being a part of the online community, so much so that it's what i look forward to when my day involves something other than being here.
the only thing better than being here would be to experience being with you all, face to face.
I am glad you are in this same boat with me and all the others.
It is the first craft I have been on where I didn't get sea sick.
Look forward to more of your posts.
