What did you do over the weekend?

i was bad!

we went to our cabin friday night till sunday.

i went through 3 cases of buttlight!

My wife and I went to our "get away house" in Oregon and mowed and had a beer and cleaned up and had a beer and did some carpenter work and had some margaritas and then next day.

Drove to Anthony lakes in the mountains. Looks just like the lakes in the Swiss alps. Just beautiful.

Then drove to Granit Oregon an old small mining town with several old houses standing and several new ones. Reminds one of the old mining days. There we had a beer and sandwiches. From there to Sumpter Oregon another old mining town. They still have the huge mining dredge in one of the ponds and it is an interesting museum "if you like to know a little of the world of 100 yrs ago".

Started home and stopped at a turnout and ate some wate rmelon, shared some with two adults riding bicycles and they told us they are cycling to Virginia. That is one hell of a long bicycle ride.

How do you feel, relieved or sad?

ive been doing a bunch of reflecting and pondering> im just seeing if anyone else has been feeling this and/or if its common.

relieved that i have a new found freedom, free to pursue goals and dreams i never could as a dub.

free from the guilt, always feeling god is watching waiting from me to screw up so he can erase my name from the book of life.

Jula any time a major change in ones life takes place, the feelings of sadness, depression, fear, guilt,

and especially the feeling of being 'lost' can be expected.

We have a pretty well fixed picture of ourselves "our identity" and when a large change comes, like a divorce we are in some ways no LONGER OUR OLD SELF.

We loose our "IDENTITY".

A complete abandonment of a CULT that has the control the wbts has over their members Is a major change in ones life IN MANY WAYS.

If these feelings linger on too long, seeing a counselor is a good idea.

Well Blondie you braggerd, I didn't miss that placard era.

My mom dragged me out on the streets with that dammed placard at about 6 or 7 yrs old.

This was in the early beginnings of ww2.

You can imagine how we were greeted on the streets.

I can remember people yelling at us and one lady came up and screamed at my mom to " get that little boy off the streets. Whats the matter with you?"

I loved that woman, wanted to go home with her.

Chemo begins today

so, i've been sitting at the computer all night long, not really panicked, but definitely disturbed at the thought of what the months to come will entail.. the port-a-cath was "installed" (surgically) on monday, and that was tough.

somehow the lumpectomy last month and even finding out that there was lymph node involvement was okay.

scary, but okay.

Brenda you have already received so much good and kind advice, there is little I can add to it.

I might add that I worked with a man that had a bone cancer treatment at the age of about 35.

It was tough but he survived and has done well for the past 7 yrs.

When you feel down and beat upon, come to this forum if you can and indulge in a little love and caring coming your way.

JW view on therapy?

i'll start by saying a big hello!

to everyone on the board, i wish i had known about it when i was still a teenager in the religion.

what i am curious about is the jw view on people getting therapy for mental/emotional disorders.

I got a laugh out of your statement " unacceptable contradictions ". Or Cognitive dissonance.

I can't think of a place where one may run into more "unacceptable contradictions" than being a jw.

Maybe scientology is right up there also vying for top place.

About getting into their panties?? It does happen but it is a rare thing. We had a psychologist here in this area that was accused and promptly left town.

Can JW's take vacations.....from the truth?

when jw's want a vacation, they have to go someplace to justify that they aren't at the hall.

so often we hear that brother of sister "x" went to hawaii for 3 weeks, and everybody is happy.. but, if a jw doesn't have the money to take a real vacation, but just wants to take, lets say 3 weeks off, and stay at home without going to any meeting, can it be done without questions asked, just like the couple going to hawaii?.

Here's a good one.

Sevral years ago a small group of jw's, including my family went to a nice campsite in the mountains.

It had hot springs and all.

This was in the last 3 days of the week and including saturday and sunday.

Along comes sunday evening and this dim wit elder wants all of us to "gather together" tm. For the

WATCHTOWER STUDY.

I could tell no one wanted to. They wanted to kick back and rest and take it easy.

He made a big self righteous fuss and most of us went.

I vowed to NEVER go with a group again. Always my family and maybe another not so dedicated to the wbts.

In your last post, I see you used the word PROBABILITIES.

I in an earlier post, also used this word.

In the end, all that either side is able to produce are Probabilities and Possibilities.

Neither side proved anything and we still lurk in the relm of the unknown.

But it is a relm of interest to both parties.

It is obvious that we really would like to know, without a doubt, Is there an afterlife??

Since you don't believe in the supernatural, you find no reason to provide evidence for the negative

position.

This sounds like your position is based in your lack of "belief".

But isn't that just what we non believers require from the believer?? EVIDENCE. If he can't give it, it must not be true.

My only position on this thread is, we are talking about a relm that we, none of us, can prove one way or the other.

My position is I would LIKE that there be an after life. This is what many make into their beliefs.

What they would like.

But pragmatists like me, we end up in the middle, we have nothing to believe from either side of the discussion.

I need some help. How do you deal with your JW family

i am at a point were i want to present them a book on cults.

i have nothing to lose as they have dis-owned me for years and have only recently came back into my life as a result of my moms illness ( alzeimers ) these people are driving me nuts!!!

Yeah I have been there and done that.

My advice is to read Skully's post several times until you can remember it.

Then put it into use when you are in contact with your relatives.

In a situation so hurtful as yours seems to be, the only way to keep your self

respect and sanity is to take over the power of your own decisions and do not let

them shove you around.

By the way, who needs people that only deliver sadness and grief in their life???
