tootired2care, my father, said I would have to move out of the house if I entered college. (I was already accepted) I wish I had ponied up and drew his bet and moved out and went. As a parent that is just one sorry bass-turd.

Did your parents force spiritual goals on you?
by Comatose ini was thinking today about my childhood.
i knew from a young age that the proper response to a question about what i wanted to be when i grew up was pioneering, missionary, bethel, or c.o.
i was taught from childhood not to want to be a fireman or astronaut.

Interesting Observation by a Coworker
by breakfast of champions inover the past couple years, i've confided my whole "apostate experience" to one of my coworkers, everything from 607 and 1914, to disfellowshipping and being raised with the constant fear my worldly family would die in armageddon.
so he knows the whole witness thing.. anyway, he tells me this experience he had on tuesday:.
you wouldn't believe this, boc.

SuperLouisLane, Clarity, and Comatoast thanks for your concern and caring comments. Work has been slow around this area for what I do and I traveled to another state to work on a hydro-electric dam.
On a recent "worldly holiday" we had 4 days off+ so I traveled home to be with my immediate family. I was within 45 minutes of home (I just passed Barbara A's home) riding my sport motorcycle when a truck and I got tangled up at 10 a.m. in the morning on the highway. I don't remember anything.
Results: Six broken ribs, plus a broken sternum, perforated lungs, ruptured spleen, hit my head so hard I broke one ear drum..plus a very good concussion, still feeling it. Internal bleeding was a concern but fortuneately it finally stopped. Minimal road rash, alittle on the elbows and knees, mostly internal injuries. (I have always dressed in quality protective clothing, full helmet, touring jacket.) Later blood clots in the legs, bad and painful.
It has been a slow process but I'm getting my strength back. The only witness said I bounced down the road hit the guard rail and bounced back into the lane. UUUUGGGH. Oh, BTW, she also said, "you have the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen". That is a true quote. She held me still until emergency medics could get there.
So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. It's been over three months and I'm not 100% but I'm finally going back to work tomorrow. Yea!!!!!

Comatose, I can personally appreciate your struggle and feelings.
My family is similarly disfunctional. I'm not disfellowshipped nor disassociated; it's not even clear if my family knows that I'm inactive because of the distance and lack of communication. However, my life is peaceful without any family contact.
I've tried to contact my mother at least once a year. The last time I talked with her she didn't seem to care that I called, nor did she volunteer any information about her life. This last year I had an accident that left me in the hospital for 5 days in ICU, and I've yet to go back to work. I've tried calling and leaving messages to let her know of my brush with death, but I'll not grovel.
I've wondered about why "we" still care about people that lack a natural love, and all I've come up with is they have had their soul vacuumed out by WTBTS and "we" haven't.

If I could go back to 1974
by Quarterback ini was very young back then, and can remember telling everyone at school, family, and all my worldly friends that the world would end in just another year.
now after reading the latest july wt, and reviewing all the updates, i can't help but wonder what effect i would have if i told members of my faith that armeggeddon, wouldn't come that year.
the fds has two appointments, 1st in 1919, and then 2nd after the gt.

If I could go back in time I would make two other trips. One to the early 1880's to enlighten C.T. Russel of what his misdirected MONSTER turned into, and
then to early 1900's to beat the krap out of Rutherford in a New York Alley. Oh, I'd
probably have to return in 1917 and beat the krap out of Rutherford again.

Has anyone else observed how the elderly JWs are neglected?
by Joepublisher1 ini know there are exceptions to this (by good-hearted jws), but has anyone else noticed how some jws (even those who are pios, elders, etc.
) neglect the needs of their elderly parents?
(what i have seen is some jws hiding behind the fact that they are very busy in spiritual matters, too busy, to help their elderly parents with chores around their house, yet they find plenty of time for their own selfish pursuits.

Could it be in some of the situations mentioned above of "elders" and their families not taking care of their mothers or fathers needs that it is "like payment" in return? I know of some parents who ignored their children/teenagers to knock on doors pioneering. Years go by, and the children that are now adults, conveniently "repay" mom the same cards she dealt her own sons and daughters. Karma is sometimes a (wicked saying).
Seems to me that the root of the problem is the dysfunctional family teachings from WTBTS. If WTBTS stopped demanding in the name of GOD all attention and time and energy from their worshipers through fear and guilt, and stopped keeping their followers occupied from sun up to mid-night working on their organizational garbage, that families could return to the more "natural" familial love. Bottom line is that WTBTS "mother" organization is more demanding, louder in their demands, exerts more force for their demands, and is so overbearing that active witnesses can't see or hear their own family obligation.

For me personally, The probability of an accident involving someone texting while driving is greater than having an accident with someone drinking and driving.
