peacefulpete....you are correct in the star reappearing from what I read in Matt 2:9,10 ....Why did it evidently disappear over Jerusalem when it knew exactly where the child was to begin with?

why celebrate xmas?
by enoughisenough inmany on here are ex jw....they have left the jws because of coming to find out the many false indoctrinations.
one of the things learned as a jw is that there isn't anything true about xmas being the birth of jesus.
( matt chapter 2 tells a whole different narrative about the baby jesus than what is portrayed by the christian churches) they learn the ways that are celebrated are pagan practices jesus told the samaritan woman that god wanted to be worshipped in spirit and it truth.

Pioneer couple sense of entitlement
by nowwhat? inso there's this middle age pioneer couple.
he works part time and the wife doesn't work at all.
their daughter is getting married and even though it is known they go on multiple vacations a year, they expect the grooms parents to pay for 100% of the wedding!

I think in some ways, they are groomed to behave as entitled because some of the rank and file believe they are on a pedestal. They will get invited to pioneer only or pioneer and elder only parties by others in the congregation. They will be given expensive items from others in the congregation because they pioneer. ( I knew a woman in the custom drapery business who made custom window treatments for a pioneer's home ( she did elders as well ) This is expensive stuff we are talking about.

Pioneer hour requirement returns
by FFGhost inso, just posted on jw.borg:.
as of march 2023, the hour requirement for pioneers, which was suspended during the pandemic, will once again be enforced.. elders will review the activity of all pioneers in june 2023. if it appears that any do not have a “practical schedule” (aren’t getting at least close to 70 hours per month”), elders are to “kindly and frankly discuss their circumstances”.. what’s that sound that seems like a torpedo plane diving on its target?
that’s the sound of the number of regular pioneers in complete free fall .

slimboyfat..."what is the point of being a pioneer nowadays?" being put on a pedestal by others. How many would do it without the pats on the back? Or they think they can make up for bad behavior.

jhine, I grew up celebrating xmas. I took part in the church "pageants"...The way it was and still is depicted in nativity scenes is the babe in a manger and the animals and the wise men there with the STAR above. I also recall Santa being in the church and giving out candy. Matt 2 makes it plain the star didn't first lead to a manger but to King Herod who wanted to kill Jesus. When the "wise men" found Jesus, he was a young child in a house, not a babe in a manger as depicted in the church programs. The wise men ( magi or astrologers ) didn't report back to Herod because they were warned in a dream. Joseph took the family to Egypt because of a dream. Herod killed all baby boys in the districts from age 2 and under trying to make rid of Jesus.
peaceful pete, my view isn't sectarian bigotry of the WT, but from what/how I understand the story of Jesus birth as written in the Bible. Even without "pagan" background celebrations, the story isn't depicted correctly,

" As early as 125 CE Christians were celebrating Jesus' Birth." ....if important, why didn't the diciples? why wasn't the date recorded? It seems to me some JW go from one false doctrine to another. Then there are those who cease belief in God, Jesus, the Bible altogether. "Is the stopping of honoring old gods and the starting of honoring Jesus a sin?" --my question would be is it worshipping in spirit and in truth? and if not, what would you call it?

My question is, if you left JWs because of learning of false hoods, and you know God wants to be worshipped in truth, why would you practice xmas of which there is no truth in?

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses attend so many meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inronald curzan ( helper to the teaching committee ) gives a talk on the real reasons jehovah's witnesses should attend meetings.
it looks like the zoom meetings have softened up many witnesses.
many are probably turning off their cameras and zoning out.

they are lead to believe they must do it in order to prove they worship God. The spiritually weak are the ones who miss the meeting. They don't want to be seen as spiritually weak by the judgmental " brothers and sisters", but rather obedient to the GB. Also, they aren't allowed friends outside the cult, so they go to see the only friends they are allowed to have close association with ( and then they still have to be choosy)

Can you answer my questions, please?
by Sandie ini have three questions.
i would be most grateful if someone could respond for me, please.
thank you.. 1. can jehovah's witnesses practice faith with the bible as a guide, or is it crucial to include the teachings of the watchtower society?

# 1 in 1935 the was the Walsh trial...you can find it online . 3 heavies ( Fred Franz, Grant Suitor, Hayden Covington.) at the WT testified that witnesses had to believe the WT without question over what the Bible said or they would be kicked out and Hayden Covington testified if you didn't believe the WT you were deserving of death. Everyone should read some their testimonies... I didn't know they existed until this year. If I had read it 50 years ago, my life would have been much different. (the same holds true today...you can't question what they teach...you become a filthy apostate the God is going to destroy. (filthy apostate is a description used by JW to describe ones who wake up to the lies of the WT)
#2 I never read where Jesus claimed to be God. I have read where he said the "Father is greater than I am" I have read where he claimed to be God's Son. I have read where Jesus is subjected to God ( 1 Cor 15:28 ) It becomes apparent that confusion has been the result of translation, or maybe it was written to confuse to start with. But I think throughout there is more evidence for a Father/Son relationship than for Jesus being almighty God. Even in creating man, it reads : let us make man in OUR image...( didn't say let me make man in my image )( Gen 1:26). There isn't anything really mysterious about a Father/son relationship, but it gets to be a real mystery to explain Jesus being God and not being able to do anything without his Father, and why would he subject himself to himself....( some will disagree- each to his own -some here don't even believe the Bible or in God) If I had never been a JW, I would still never have believed Jesus is God Almighty.
#3 per JW-the 144000 become sealed and their eternal life is guaranteed...but the others that survive or are resurrected have to endure the final test at the end of the 1000 years.
