punkofnice--go ahead and forgive yourself. I daresay, all who have woken up feel like we were gullible, stupid followers...going along with if you don't understand it, wait on Jehovah. In a video I watched, the person explained putting his doubts on a shelf because he thought those doing the writing knew better than himself. I felt the writers were true Bible scholars and researchers and who was I to question. If I had been reading the Bible without the filters of the WT, I would have recognized some of the lies sooner. If I had read some of the old books they didn't want you to read, I would have been awake to the pyramidology origins. This is why they don't want independent study groups-they don't want their blinders coming off. They keep the rank and file on such a treadmill, and what with having to support ourselves beside, it was just easier to go along with what they published...push any nagging thought away. So I think we all should forgive ourselves ( for those who are beating themselves up )and just be glad we are awake to the lies now. Are some of us suffering because of loss of friends? I am...I have no friends now where I live. I have a couple of work acquaintances, but nobody close.( I mostly work alone ) But on the flip side of that, I am not on the WT treadmill where if you don't keep up, you are judged spiritually weak and nobody wants you around. I am of the opinion some people pioneer so they will be noticed by others. The ones to be pitied are those still in slaving for the charlatans and donating to them.

Keep telling yourself that!
by Lost in the fog inin the latest copy of the elders textbook someone kindly made available to us on this website, i see that "independently organized meetings for spiritual feeding" are still not allowed.
no wonder because independent research would let the scales fall from the eyes.. the gb still insisting that they are guided by the (always lower case) holy spirit and the bible!!
not that the rank and file members need the bible or holy spirit themselves because they are fed through meetings, conventions, assemblies, jw broadcasting and the publications.

I recently listened to a video of a recorded judicial meeting where a woman was disfellowshipped for just joining in a study of nothing but the Bible.

Do the old boys on the GB actually report their field service hours?
by eyeslice inthis came to mind as my 71 year old wife got up at 6:30 to drive 1.1/4 hours to meet the field ministry group.
we live a long way from the kingdom hall and the traffic is horrendous where we live!.
somehow, i doubt the good old boys do much themselves.

after the book study arrangement was taken out of private homes, some were meeting ( I went a couple of times) in the home of retired CO . We were just going over and talking about the chapters for Bible reading that week. He was told to close up that shop... the supposed reason being that one sister complained she was getting overlooked in commenting on the scriptures we were reading. That didn't smell right to start with! I guess some story had to be circulated rather than the truth of the matter.

why celebrate xmas?
by enoughisenough inmany on here are ex jw....they have left the jws because of coming to find out the many false indoctrinations.
one of the things learned as a jw is that there isn't anything true about xmas being the birth of jesus.
( matt chapter 2 tells a whole different narrative about the baby jesus than what is portrayed by the christian churches) they learn the ways that are celebrated are pagan practices jesus told the samaritan woman that god wanted to be worshipped in spirit and it truth.

I am of the opinion, if you want to celebrate, go ahead, but call it what it really is. It isn't the birthday of Jesus...calling it that doesn't make it so even if some choose to think in that way. Attaching Jesus to make holy what isn't doesn't fly. The Israelites made a golden calf and called it a festival to Jehovah...how well did that work out? Years ago, a man told me that he knew xmas was pagan, but he loved it. ( that being said, I dare say many things we all do today, were done by the "pagans". Somewhere in all of this, I think motive has to be considered.

freedom of speech and loss of rights
by enoughisenough ini was thinking about freedom of speech after watching a clip about the jw suing kevin mcfree.
they wanted to take away his freedom of speech.
but in thinking about it, that is the way of the organization, save they want to control thought as well.

I was thinking about freedom of speech after watching a clip about the JW suing Kevin McFree. They wanted to take away his freedom of speech. But in thinking about it, that is the way of the organization, save they want to control thought as well. You would think they would be a champion of freedom of speech because they fought it through the supreme court. It is one-sided at best. If you have an issue you take before the elders, you are told to keep your mouth shut about it. ( why so many perverts get away with molesting kids)
I wonder who besides Kevin McFree they have tried to silence! You simply are not allowed to speak against the GB ( loss of freedom of speech.)
Another way they take away our freedom of speech is by announcement of our name should we disassociate. What good is freedom of speech if others are prohibited from hearing what you have to say?
Here is another right that the JW take away: the 6 amendment gives people the right to confront those who accuse them of a crime. Well, some behaviors just as well be crimes where the JW are concerned, because the judges will strip you of your right to life! People can report something about you to the elders and you will never learn who your accuser/s are. This is not only unscriptural, ( if you have an issue with your brother, you are supposed to take it before him first and work it out ) , but unlawful. ( 6 amendment ) ( I was called on the carpet for shacking up in a motel with someone 1.5 hours from home-a totally made up lie, and wasn't told who brought that slander to the elders. And another time, I was called out for being drunk and they wouldn't tell me who told it--to top that story off, one of the elders in that meeting knew for a fact it was a lie, but didn't say a word in my defense) So when I think about all of it now, I can see why the Norwegian Gov is of the opinion that human rights are being violated by the JW.

Pioneer couple sense of entitlement
by nowwhat? inso there's this middle age pioneer couple.
he works part time and the wife doesn't work at all.
their daughter is getting married and even though it is known they go on multiple vacations a year, they expect the grooms parents to pay for 100% of the wedding!

a thought that adds to the mindset of those who feel entitled...How many times had we heard young people to pioneer and stay with their parents for helpful support so they could pioneer? Or families being told to work to help another family member to be able to pioneer? Over the years, I heard those scenarios in WT studies and at conventions. ( which I came to understand the WT studies were rehashes of the convention talks.)

peacefulpete....you are correct in the star reappearing from what I read in Matt 2:9,10 ....Why did it evidently disappear over Jerusalem when it knew exactly where the child was to begin with?
