Tonight's Meeting

during tonight's meeting the brother seemed to read out something along the lines of "you may be helping a poor sister who you think may be struggling, but in turn that sister may be getting financial assistance from the government.

it is always best to stick to jehovah's arrangement in these matters so that help can get to those who most need it, including the worldwide work".

i think it may have been an article about social media platforms initially and how they should be avoided and then this was mentioned.

The talk that was given this week in the Local needs in all congregations was about using messaging apps wisely.

The outline says: "Some with good intentions have used messaging apps to solicit funds for brothers in need However, there are arrangements already in place to help such ones"

It doesn't say not to help other jw's in need, but not to use messaging apps to solicit funds, which happened recently in many countries with people scamming other jw's in the pretense of helping a sick JW in some African country

I don't get it - Marriage in WT world

in wt world, a marriage is only seen (considered) as legal if it is registered in the municipality (or similar governmental organisation).

now, if you look at the scriptures, there was no requirement to have a marriage legally registered in order to be considered married.

is it not strange that the wt subjects themselves to and adopts an worldly arrangement setup but governments rules by satan when it comes to a marital status?.

Not sure where you live, but where I live, a marriage is considered legal by the government only if it is registered by the local authority.

Transparency in Field Service Hours

i notice that in the recent instructions for new regular pioneers (2020-08-s-236-e) it lists a number of assignments for which a pioneer can be credited (up to 75) hours in a month.. these include:construction oversight, assembly hall oversight, assembly oversight, and convention oversight, as well as serving as temporary volunteers at bethel, commuter bethelites, remote volunteers, bethel consultants, hospital liaison committee members, patient visitation group members, disaster relief committee members, local design/construction department field representatives and maintenance trainers, and so forth.

approved assignments also include assisting with kingdom hall construction when such is done at the request of the branch office or its representatives overseeing the project, assisting with pre and post-assembly or convention work, assisting with work at assembly halls, conducting or participating in congregation meetings held in prison, as well as attendance at a theocratic school or class .

when i was pioneering and doing pre and post-assembly work i was told i could include the time spent working in my monthly report, which i did.

Are the assignment hours reported along with the ministry hours in the annual report?

No, the hours mentioned in the comments section are not sen to the society, and are just used for that particular pioneer. As a Secretary, I never had to total or send those hours mentioned in the comments.

No. Elders cannot count the shepherding hours in their report. This has been the official instruction since 1981:

The Society is interested in knowing how much time is spent in proclaiming God’s truths to those who are not dedicated, baptized Witnesses. So time spent in shepherding or other calls made on those who are not strong spiritually and those who have not associated for some time should not be counted if the individual is a baptized Witness. It is a labor of love.

The women that abandon “The Good News” are a large army

to be born a woman is a great disadvantage in many parts of the world and much more if she is part of a destructive sect like the jehovah’s witnesses where she is submitted to the “theocratic order” being the base that sustains the corporate pyramid, displaying submission at all times before male authority.

those of us that have been part of this cult can verify that the woman has to carry out a series of practices that for the rest of society is somewhat incomprehensible.

i’d like to draw your attention to the act of head covering, if for any reason a woman has to pray in public while a male is present, who is not available to lead the prayer, she must cover her head because she wouldn’t be respecting the arrangement of authority if she didn’t.

I sympathize with what the OP went through in her life. Good that she is free now though from the mental slavery that she experienced.

In my life as a JW, most of the women that I came across in my life (including my mother, wife, and sister) were quite happy to be sitting in the congregation listening to talks, rather than give them. Many of them discussed how they felt pity about their husbands sitting through late at night for their meeting parts, elders meeting, and all.

When I was an elder, I used to go for a lot of different meetings and came home tired. The best thing for me was my wife welcoming me with refreshments. I was happy that my wife didn't have those responsibilities and she was happy about that too. She spent that time looking after my old parents and taking care of my other needs. I was always grateful that she was spared of all the pressure that I was going through.

My wife always said that while she has to remain submissive to a loving person like me, I had to remain submissive to a lot of uneducated, and rude men of authority in the JW world. Looking at my congregation, I saw that young girls were happier than the young men who were constantly being pressured to climb up the organizational ladder and being called upon for a lot of hard work.

To be honest, in the JW organization, I have seen more unhappy men than unhappy women.

Actually the term "governing body" was already inserted in the 2013 revision of the New World Translation, in the Outline of the Book of Acts.

Did Lloyd clarify that his rant was for Dwayne and not Shelly? He should have directed it at Dwayne, rather than keeping it hanging for all to decide.

In another unrelated incident, when the founders of T&T foundation couldn't achieve their Gofundme target of $40k (only collected $13k) and were forced to settle it with the WT, Lloyd asked the founders to return the Gofundme fund amount to the donors and settle the case from their own pockets as they did not win it.

Adding this to the AAWA facebook fiasco, and the 'asking money from victims to add their stories in his book' incident, a pattern is being created, and that's not good-looking.

With all of this in his kitty, he should be careful how he portrays himself.

This practice has been going on for a number of years. Except that instead of different amounts one single amount is being sent now.

Congregations have the option to change the amount anytime they like. They just have to talk to the branch.

In many congregations, the amount decided by the elders is almost laughable. In my congregation, the amount that is sent every month is equal to my electricity bill for a month, and we have 90 publishers, more on the wealthier wide, due to us being in a metro city.

Not sure about other countries. But in my cong, no one has been asked to wear a badge, just have been asked to watch the convention from their homes at their own convenience. Those who cant access the video can watch in on zoom after the meetings. The announcements stated that if anyone wanted a badge, they can contact the elders who can give them a copy. In the session last Sunday, not a single soul had the badge or any lapel on.

Not sure about the fuss of the name tags. Now that I work from home, in my office meetings, I have to compulsorily have the video on, wear a full suit, wear my office ID, and have a plain wall behind me. In fact, all the conferences that I have attended virtually or digitally, I was requested to wear a name tag or get risked being thrown out.

Attending a JW meeting is far simpler and fuss-free. If someone is wearing a badge, then its their choice. There's no official instruction mandating it.
