Is praying good for you?

when in the "truth" most of us used to pray.. i used to pray for help in doing things , say give a talk , and would ask for holy spirit .i felt i needed it to give a talk well.. but was it all just a placebo effect.. did the belief that i was getting help cause me to become more confident because i though god was helping me?.

as time went on in the truth i felt as if prayer was just talking to your self.in fact i found it embarissing to give prayers in public as i felt silly talking to an invisible creature.. but in the night i would prayer and maybe go over the days events , think about new things coming up , other people and life in general.. is this benifical to a person?.

in doing this we are meditating on events we would not otherwise think deaply about , this can help us think of solutions to problems or put things in perspective.. how often would we review events if we didnt pray.. now i doubt that we are conversing with god , but i think to "pray" or go over events in your mind maybe once a day or whatever, is good for your well being and can help you with lifes problems.. although not getting help from another creature we as humans need to meditate in order to make good decisions.. the placebo effect doesn't seem to work anymore and i rely on myself and my experience to help me do difficult tasks.. but when something really big comes up i admit i still say a little prayer.

disfellowshipping is a "loving" provision.. when the wtbts want their accolytes to swallow another bitter pill, another restriction, another rebuke, another demand on time, the buzz word is "loving".. the "loving" word, is, to the average jw, the same as the mccabe nod is to the salesman.

the mccabe nod is used by salesman all the time to get the prospective customer to agree to something that he doesn't care for too much.

COMPOUND WORDS IN ENGLISH

i thought that people whose second language is english were most guilty of dividing up well-established english compound words into parts, but now i'm beginning to see the same phenomenon from people like americans, australians and english.

seems like it's some kind of degeneration or fad or misunderstanding of the real nature, the real personality, of english.

just because we see that a particular word is made up of more than one particle understandable as a word in its own right does not mean we have the duty to be splitting them up into parts.

They are COMPOUND words, whole words in their own right, not to be split up.

For example, the following are COMPOUND words and do not need to be split up:

THEREFORE -- INTO -- INDEED -- TOOTHPICK -- TOOTHPASTE -- WEBSITE -- SKYWALKER -- WINDMILL -- LAUNDROMAT -- DISHWASHER -- INJUSTICE -- WHEELBARROW -- CARWASH -- HANGNAIL -- AFTERSHAVE -- HANGMAN -- ANTIFREEZE -- AIRPLANE -- SAILPLANE -- HYDROELECTRIC -- RAILROAD -- AIRLINE -- AIRPORT.....

Some concepts do NOT make compound words (at this time in the evolution of English anyway) even if it seems they COULD be:

CLOTHES DRYER -- CAR REPAIR -- ELECTRIC CHAIR -- WATER HEATER.....

Some compounds typically have their parts not run together but connected by a hyphen. Whenever you see a hyphenated word it's one of these, such as MEXICAN-AMERICAN. Some were or are in flux from hyphenated form to solid form: ELECTRO-PLATING or ELECTROPLATING.

So when you are tempted to start separating compounds, look in the dictionary first or use spell-checker (or spell checker)(this one is in flux too).

Next time I'll comment on what's correct, BEAN BURRITO or BEANS BURRITO, if I haven't already bored everyone to death.

SUCHLIKE ONES.

Yeah. Another peeve of mine was "these ones." I remember my grammar school teacher ranting and raving about how "this one" is correct, but not "these ones." It should be simply "these."

And Prominent Ones from the platform: "It's not for you and 'I' to decide, brothers." "I" is wrong. The preposition "for" makes it "It's not for you and ME (which means "US") to decide, brothers."

To top it off, WTS has even screwed with Spanish orthography in their "Theocratic Spanish", that came from some Very Obscure Spaniard grammarian (Madrid Bethel explained this to me some time ago, and their rationale was always schizoid and never supported by Spain or Latin-American publications). They insist on using some punctuation features from said grammarian that have NEVER found their way into everyday worldwide acceptable educated Spanish usage, not even in El Pais ( http://www.elpais.es), which WTS has made reference to on numerous occasions. The punctuation changes would be roughly akin to WTS starting to eliminate the apostrophe (') from the "it's" contraction for "it is," simply because they thought it was a cool idea [what the hell business is it of theirs anyway to be screwing with anybody's language?] That's just what they did in Spanish, being the only entity in the whole world that is screwing with Spanish punctuation.

Nerve? Mindless idiocy? Colossal stupidity??? Why not!!!

JW PEDOPHILE BUSTED --- SOMEWHAT

there was a pedophilia situation that came up in a local .

congregation about three years ago.. seems a pedo chicken came home to roost for a fine upstanding elder.

Seems a pedo chicken came home to roost for a fine upstanding elder.

The situation was from twenty or more years previous. The victim,

now grown up and married, was encouraged by current articles of

several years ago about child molestation, to report what had

happened when a minor. So the victim talked to local elders (another

state far away), who reported it to HQ. HQ appointed a couple of

elders to interview Upstanding Elder. He thought the problem had

been resolved years ago in the ORIGINAL congregation where the event

occurred. But there it was as a resurrected skeleton now in his

current congregation, and according to WTS guidelines and how he

responded to their formulaic questions asked by the local brothers

assigned to interview him, WTS very quickly responded with ORDERS re

IMMEDIATE ACTION TO BE TAKEN regarding Upstanding Elder: immediate

removal as elder, no parts in any meeting except householder in

Service Meeting, no public prayers before the congregation, and no

taking younger ones along in Field Service.

Seems WTS was doing a sloppy job of giving lip service to info

they had published about molesters: I never heard anything mentioned

about any authorities ever having been informed from the very

beginning years ago, and the congregation was told ABSOLUTELY NADA

about WHY the WTS had taken such action, nor even that it was HQ that

took the action!!!

Bottom line: many pubs thought that the brothers assigned to

interview the molester were the ones that removed him because they

didn't like him, and those who had no opinion were ABSOLUTELY IN THE

DARK about why he got busted down to the basement. Not even anything

about how Upstanding Brother might be a danger to their kids.

My wife was so upset about what happened to the guy she started

having an attitude toward WTS because of how "unkindly"

and "unfairly" they treated him for "unknown" reasons. I started to

break down in my Seal of Confession mentality to share with her some

of what the problem had been with him so it would be more

understandable to her but she could not even believe it and wanted to

hear No More About It.

Now that I'm a big DISASS I realize that my loyalty was

displaced in keeping the garbage confidential; that I MYSELF should

have informed the congregation about the molestation charge (even if

I got axed for that) and that it was WTS HQ that gave Upstanding the

ax, not the elders assigned by them to investigate the matter, who

were taking the heat that HQ should have been taking. Typically WTS

was shoving responsibility that THEY should have shouldered to anyone

else they could so WTS could continue in its tradition of loading

crap on everyone else (they never admit blame for ANYTHING, which

will be part of their undoing) so they could continue the illusion of

being Jehovah's White and Unsullied ORGANIZATION.

It will be interesting to see if this particular situation ---

and maybe many others of similar ilk --- comes under fire (for not

reporting original incident to police as well as the point of not

protecting the congregation's children) as pedophilia coverup

lawsuits start hounding the WTS mercilessly, as they indeed deserve.

i am writing to follow up with information concerning j. r. browns response to comments i made to the media regarding watchtowers policy hurting children and protecting pedophiles.

in the course of the last year the jehovahs witness public information department headed by j. r. brown and local elders have repeatedly offered misinformation to the public.
