Black sheep of the family-my life as an ExJW
by bsand20 ini was a 3rd generation jw, half the congregation i attended was made up of my entire mom's side of the family, 2 of the 3 elders were my grandpa and uncle.
my first memory of the organization was when they announced my mom's name in the meeting saying she had been reinstated....it was 1988 and i was 6 years old....i didn't understand it then, but when i asked my mom why was she crying and why did they say her name in the meeting, she said "it's because i've been good!".
so she went back and after a period of time assisting constantly, she was reinstated.

You have quite a story! Wow! You must be a very understanding, loving, kind woman! And a true Christian, unlike most of your family.
I'm sorry that your Mom has done this to you, probably under pressure form the elder. But perhaps you should turn the tables on them, send a note and tell her that although you love her, you agree that you need to end unnecessary communication as you don't want your precious children exposed to such a vindictive cult and its members or their false teachings. You prefer that they associate with real Christians, who follow Christ. And if she ever decides to exit the cult, you will accept her with open arms. Please let her know your door is always open.
Continue to enjoy your life and your freedom! All the best to you!

Buying a body of elders
by hoser inyes, everyone has a price.
a number of years ago in a congregation i once was in there was a wealthy businessman in the congregation.
he made sure that all of the elders had annual vacations overseas or to the tropics paid for by himself.

Yes, most congregations most likely have their "favorites". We all probably have some ridiculous stories, just not as extreme as yours. I know I do., and have heard of some. And if you were a sister w/o a believing mate, forget it! I had a "brother" who was obviously a nut job leave a threatening message on my answering machine one time just because my son had called there and not left a message on their machine! I went to an elder ,all I wanted was for him to speak to the guy, and he brushed it off. Pissed me off, I simply don't take well to that type of thing, and let the elder know if it happened again, I'd go to the police! I never did fit well in that congo. That is the one I actually exited from.

My son has made his decision
by CaptainSchmideo inthis is the followup to this thread:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/276119/1/well-its-march-and-the-college-answers-are-coming-in#.uyjdu_ldv2e.
the financial aid offer came in.. the first year of attending is actually cheaper than what we were going to pay at the state university after their scholarship offer.. i mean, really cheaper.. we would be fools to turn it down.. they are even flying him in for the preview week.. .

Woman talk to media about Church of Scientology ripping her family to pieces
by Imminent1975 inhttp://gma.yahoo.com/fla-woman-says-church-scientology-ripped-her-family-165522676--abc-news-topstories.html?vp=1.
this was posted on yahoo news, informing people about a woman that claims her family has been ripped apart by the teachings of scientology.
sounds like the situation for many of us here with our families still in jw land.

Do you think the reason Scientology gets the press is because they have many high profile celebrities, and the wt only has the Williams sisters, and the deceased Michael Jackson? Or just no one has come forth with their story about shunning?
Barb Anderson & Bill Bowen got the medias attention quite a while ago about the pedophile problem, but I think it was at much personal cost to them, correct?

Maybe moving! Need some advice
by Jon Preston inok so we might be moving to fl.
wife wants to get away to start over.
i also want to move but at the right time and to the right place.

Do your research before you move. Find where the jobs are, what they pay, how the school districts measure up. After you decide on a couple places, could you take a couple long weekends to check them out? You don't want any regrets.

It must have been a brother!
by hoser ini was listening to a conversation of jws recently about how trusting they are with each other and how out in "the world" you have to be ever so careful that you don't put down your purse or wallet for a minute otherwise it will be stolen.. i entered the conversation with an experience that one of my close friends had.
(true story) he was in a public place with a wallet with significant amount of cash and bank card, credit card, id, etc.. somehow he lost or misplaced the wallet, panicked of course.
he went to the police, cancelled all his cards and thought it was gone for sure.

Delusional.
I was ripped off at a KH in the 80's. A woman came in and sat behind me, I had a child that had to potty NOW, and I stupidly forgot my purse in my seat. It was gone when I got back, and so was the woman. I found out that no one knew her, but some had watched her take my purse, but didn't want to offend her by following her out to make sure she was taking it to me. They just assumed! IDIOTS! She got everyhting, including my car keys. My husband, a non jw, couldn't believe there was a building full of these goofballs!

LisaRose, I think you are going to have to be blunt, as you know they don't respect the no soliciting signs. They claim they are not soliciting. Vanderhoven7 has the right idea. I feel sorry for you. You see the witnesses once every 2, ,maybe 3 years around here. And I am rarely bothered.

The vacation pioneering is not new, but did they actually say that being punctual brings honor to the image of the governing body?!!!! NOT JEHOVAH???? SERIOUSLY? That is just a little mind blowing.
