If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?
by cofty inimagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

I would probably reach out and talk to some people I've known a long time. Some people I only speak with secretly I could speak with and visit openly. There are some people that might reach out and want to talk to me but there are definitely some I couldn't care less about. I see no reason to be purposefully rude but I also see no reason to be overly kind either. -

Type and Antitype
by wisdomfrombelow ini was looking for july 15th watchtower article today to use the words type and antitype but they didn't.
i wonder when they stopped using those phrases as it seems to be a few years.
who was the person who liked to use that word like the person who loved to use antediluvian?

They are for all intents and purposes "old light" now -

Religious Freedom Laws...
by wisdomfrombelow ini wonder if the religious freedom laws would allow active jws to discriminate against former jws?
could a business owner decide not to serve or sell to someone they consider "apostate" according to their beliefs?
if so it could take shunning to a whole new level in some states.

I remember back 25 years ago when they officially dropped shunning of "unapproved associates". Those unbaptized persons who would have been disfellowshipped if they were baptized and they were shunned before and now no longer were officially shunned. People who were not spoken to for years were suddenly love-bombed. I heard the change was due to a lawsuit and I guess that is how many rules get changed. They protect their ASSets. They will never drop disfellowshipping but how it is implemented might change. And they can always shift the burden to the publishers to "do what they want" even if it isn't what they say (like voting). -

A letter To My Friend
by Garrett inhey guys,.
so i've written up a letter to my friend that i plan on sending him to try to wake him up.
he's a very sensible man who i care deeply for.

Since you put it out there for us to comment I will comment. Reading this and your last letter about the gift you received from the congregation makes me think you should NOT send this letter. Since your friend was calling and texting and you refused to respond, perhaps you should just state that you want to talk to him. Somethings are better said "face to face" especially if you really want to reach his heart.

Gifts from my old hall..
by Garrett inhey guys,.
so, it seems the hall i used to attend before my latest one got to hearing that i "disappeared".
so today, i went to the post office to pick up a package.... i decided to try to face reality and open it... what i found were multiple letters and wrapped gifts.

I know many people who would be so happy to have received that type of attention even if it is from people who you no longer care about. What did they have to say? You will never know. I refused to paint every active JW with the same brush that many do. Maybe some of them might have written things that could have indicated unconditional love or maybe some might be feeling the same as you and wanted to let you know.
It is definitely not typical as most here will tell you when they faded it became "out of sight, out of mind" but that is just my opinion and my reaction. They did much more than just send a text or make a phone call. They actually wrote cards and letters and even mailed gifts. I find nothing wrong with what they did and it seems like a very nice thing to do.

GB need to go back into hiding like they use to be.
by thedepressedsoul inthe broadcasting, annual meetings, wt articles, talks etc... that show these gb members upfront are killing them!
they are not only making a complete fool of themselves but they expect us to sit and watch them, listen to them and then believe they are the direct communication with jehovah!?!.
i can't tell you how many comments i've heard from "spiritual" people that i thought i'd never hear them say, not in a good way!

I love that they are coming out of the shadows. I also hope one day that they will list the writer for the articles in the magazines. Then everyone who reads some that nonsense can see who wrote it and view it in that light. Is the writer single and writing an article on family life? Is he childless and giving child-rearing advice? Is he uneducated and downgrading education? More exposure helps people with see how things really are. -

This is my first post to the new site and I also don't like change that much. I might get used to it but I don't think I'll like it as much as I don't use a portable device, just a regular laptop for access. -

I don't know why...but this is what has been happening in my ex-jw world...
by misguided inso i took up volunterring for habitat for humanity in one of their restores about a year and a half/two years ago.
now as far as i've known growing up in the religion, this is a faith-based organization that jehovah's witnesses are not to support.
so i am wirded ou in some ways of what has happened during this time.. my first event was a previous elder from a congregation 3 hours away from where i live now, coming into the store.
-
wisdomfrombelow
As others have mentioned, I had not idea it was a faith-based store. Then again I don't read all the mission statements on all the places I shop at. I would agree that it is just people looking for bargains and not deliberately seeking to support a particular religious institution

When Was Jerusalem Destroyed By The Babylonians?
by Smart incan someone explain in easy to understand language what this argument is all about.
i am not that clever.
i am hoping to talk to the elders about this as well as whoever is willing to talk about it on here.

I am going to be brave and present this year count of kings to the elders tomorrow.
You are not going to be brave. As stated before you will be showing the truth to someone who wants to believe a lie and what happens to those who cast their pearls before swine? The elders main job is to support the Society and enforce its rules/decisions/discipline. Your action will not be appreciated by those whose minds are already closed.
