Should I say something?
by Flat_Accent inmy parents are quite popular in their congregation, and they're constantly inviting brothers and sisters over.
as i've been part of the org for 19 years i know all these people very well, and before i da'd myself i was good friends with all of them.
every other friday they invite a single brother round for dinner, just to cheer him up a bit.

Regarding Acts 15 and a "Governing Body"
by Ding ini couldn't find a window on which to post in xtreemlyconfused17's acts 15 thread, so i'm responding here.
some elder claimed that acts 15 shows the existence of a first century governing body.. quite the opposite!.
let's back up to acts 13. there, the holy spirit called saul (paul) and barnabas to missionary work.

Dealing with elders during my mom's surgery
by noni1974 inmy mother has been working forwell over a year to have a gastric bypass and she finally got the ok from her doctor and insurance.
the date is set for this coming friday.
although, i'm not 100% sure this will happen because she was diagnosed with pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung this past week.

Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality
by cedars ini'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?
" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.
however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

my mum tries hard to never miss on Sundays. Shes just too 'busy' to go on Thurdays and by weekends shes tired (hasnt gone to field service for more than 5 years). Otherwise shes still convinced shes in the truth and insists i stick in BUT always tells me 'dont see the zelouse people in the cong. And get discouraged. (cuz i COMPlETLY STOPPED EVERYTHN on just a blink of an eye). Jehovah looks in the heart'.........(sometimes i wonder if she realy beleives inthe WT anyway).............She always 'feels sorry' for the 'good kids' in the cong cuz they would 'pass her' without 'greeting her'. She just says ''i wonder if their parents teach them that. As if i'm disfellowshipped. They need a bible study once again. Or maybe as they get experienced they'l change''. I feel sorry for her....................now after i found out all these, next time i'l just tell her 'mom if u realy want to be treated 'like in the old days', 'go back inthe old ways'.................in the mean time i'm trying to make my mom see things but damn that woman is tighter than the elders' wives

Was There REALLY a First Century "Governing Body"??
by Lady Liberty infirst century governing body?the watchtower claims that a formal governing body was established in the first century, which is used as the basis for how the governing body of the watchtower society operate today.. "while all anointed christians collectively form god's household, there is abundant evidence that christ chose a small number of men out of the slave class to serve as a visible governing body.
the early history of the congregation shows that the 12 apostles, including matthias, were the foundation of the first-century governing body.
" - watchtower 1990 mar 15 p.11 the term "governing body" is 'loaded language' as it never appears in the scriptures and so has unique application within the pages of the watchtower.

now if there wont be a 'governing body'.....or lets say 'a set of arangement', what would the elders teach? (i know the main theme is Jehovah's Kingdom). What would they be saying every week?.........atleast when theres a 'governing body' with a 'switch' we can always go see the different tube lights switched on n off now and then! :) lol
