LET US TRY AN EXQUISITE CORPSE
by Terry inamong surrealist techniques exploiting the mystique of accident was a kind of collective collage of words or images called the cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse).
based on an old parlor game, it was played by several people, each of whom would write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next player for his contribution.
i will begin the story.

Do you believe the Bible is the inspired word of God?
by desib77 indo you believe the bible is the inspired word of god?
have you somehow attempted to prove this to yourself or have you just accepted it?
-

I believe that those that wrote the words of the Bible were inspired to do so. I also believe that one has to be 'inspired' to understand and accept it. Only the Holy Spirit can bring it alive. Otherwise it's just a book like any other book.

Do you believe in God?
by XBEHERE inafter reading the wt for last week's lesson on god's creative works i couldnt help but think that there really is a god, there has to be.
i dont want to start a creation vs. evolution debate but you have to agree that its an extremely remote chance that the whole universe, the planets, stars, the sun, the earth, the animals, humans came about by accident.
i mean, what the chances really.

Yes, I believe in God. I believed in him before becoming a JW and my experience with the JW's didn't diminish that belief. PB

Today's policy on being DF'ed

I want to thank all of you that responded to my question. A former sister (friend of mine) was disfellowshipped and living out of state from her children. The oldest son is married with two children. In the beginning he told his mother that he had talked to the elders about her visiting and they told him that it was up to his own conscience. This past weekend she flew to Indiana to see her grandchildren. JW neighbors started asking questions about the strange car in the driveway. They were told who it was and the son was called in for a "meeting."
He was told in no uncertain terms to get rid of her or he could be disfellowshipped. The mother was devastated, the grandkids were crying and screaming for her to stay, and the whole thing turned into a nightmare.
I think I'll send her some of this information so that she'll at least know what their current policy is. Thanks so much.

To those in the know,
Would someone be so kind as to catch me up on the current disfellowship policy? How exactly are the rank and file being instructed to treat family members who are DF'ed? I know it changes with the wind. The last I heard, it was somewhat more reasonable. Has that changed?
I appreciate the help.

A question for you....
by Dia ini just got to wondering this, after reading the post by the girl who is thinking of joining the wts..... (this would be for those who became a jw by choice - not birth, tho of course, anyone here can comment).. i'm wondering, what kind of christian were you prior to your conversion to the wts?.
you can give your denomination if you choose.
but what i'm really asking about is what was your experience with religion, in general?.

Hi Dia, I married into the JW sect at the naive age of 15. Before that, my family was not spiritual or even religious. But I occasionally walked to a small baptist church about a block from my home for sunday school and sometimes even the church service. I don't really know why except that I've always (since I can remember) known that God existed and I wanted to know him.
As for the holidays, yes our family celebrated them all. It was just what you did. It wasn't a religious experience at all, and I even used to have the oddest feeling on Christmas morning, like something wasn't quite right. It all seemed so confusing to me even as a child, especially when I realized what is was suppose to symbolize.

Women Only, Please.
by Robdar inhas anybody on the forum ever had a hysterectomy?
i am getting one this winter.
i am scared shitless.

PointBlank
Hi Robdar,
I had a complete vaginal hysterectomy for fibroid cysts in 1995 at the age of 37. Previously, I had had a laparoscopy (sp?) for ovarian cysts. My doctor wanted to leave my ovaries, but I told him that I refused to be in to have fluid filled cysts taken off once a year. After my surgery he told me that it was a good decision...must not have looked very good. Anyway, my point is this...
I watched my mom and mother-in-law go through hysterectomies in the 70's. It was horrible. So much so that the thought of one scared me to death. But when it came time for me, I was going through the "coming out of the WT thing" and I didn't really care what happened. The opposite of what I witnessed with my mother was true though. It was a breeze. They have some really good drugs and techniques. When I checked into the hospital, my doctor had ordered something to "relax" me. Not long after they gave it to me I passed out. I never knew when I left the room or returned. I woke up (in my room) sometime that night and it was over. I didn't feel any pain at any time. However, the gas that they use to inflate your stomach for the laparoscopy made me sicker (as in vomiting) than a dog. Hobbling back and forth to the bathroom wasn't very fun, but I was so drugged that I didn't feel any pain. Finally, they had to give me something for nausea. After that, it was just a matter of healing.
If you "need" one, I'd say go for it. But I don't think that it's something to be terrified of.....of course, I can say that NOW. But really, they do take good care. I hope all goes well with you.

What are your thoughts on writing DA letters?
by mamashel inas most of you know, i have been inactive for about 2 1/2 yrs and completely out for about 7 months.
i am debating on wether or not to write a letter of da to the org or not.
in some ways i just want closure, and on the other hand i dont want to play by their rules.

Dear Shelley,
Whether or not a person writes a letter of disassociation depends on their motives and their personal circumstances. If they feel that they must play by the rules because that's the way the WT does things, then they are playing right into WT hands. In that case they're still not free of the control exerted by the org.
If their motive is to sever all ties so that they feel free to go on with their lives without having to look over their shoulder all the time, then one may be warranted. I'm not one to be a "hanger-on'er." That seems somewhat hypocritical to me.
If the motive is to make a stand for truth and righteousness, then I think one is necessary. However, making that kind of stand can also be taken by letting them come to the person. It's just a matter of what the person wants....do they want to be disfellowshipped (JW's getting rid of you) or disassociated (You getting rid of them).
In the end, it all depends on the message you're wanting to send. And each person's circumstances are different, so the decision will be unique to each individual.
For me personally, I sent a DA letter because I had something to say. It might not have been the smartest move, but it worked for me. They know exactly where I stand and I no longer have to orchestrate my life according to the rules/regulations of those that may see me. I am free to be me....finally.
Kind regards, PB
