Here in the U.S., I don't know about the invitation, but my wife is going and her husband is inactive and no longer a meeting attender and she does not match one criteria on St. George's list. Different rules for Americans I guess.

Annual Meeting Instructions to MS / Elders
by jw07 inhave any elders or ministerial servants here recieved any specific instructions regarding the annual meeting?
as an ms all i have been told to do is to arrive early to "await further instruction due to the sensitive nature of my assignment".
ironically all i can imagine after hearing that a few times is dispensing cyanide laced kool aid to attendees.

IMHO
It's a cult.
They are tired of apostates stealing their thunder and preempting their big announcements and new releases.
All the secrecy and big deal about the annual meeting will do wonders in making the rank and file feel important, that a little deal is a great big deal, and that the Organization is looking out for them in this time of the end.
They are trying to regain a semblence of control that they have lost in recent years.
Jesus wouldn't let demons announce him as messiah, this is the Org trying to do the same thing with opposers.

Combatting cult mind control by steven hassan
by goddidit inso i've been hearing a lot of good things about this book.
apparently, some of its readers were actual believing jws and it deprogrammed them.. i'm curious why they read it in the first place though, since jws are discouraged from reading anything outside their own literature.. i know a recent convert who i'd like to help.
i could buy him the book.

"Combatting Cult Mind Control" is good because it doesn't mention JW's but many JW's who have read it can see similar characteristics in their own religion.

How many Bible Students were preaching in 1919?
by Emery indoing some additonal research on the 1919 appointment.
they claim to be the only ones preaching at that time and i find it hard to believe that a few thousand russelites out weighed the global preaching work of christendom.
especially considering that what they were preaching from door to door at that time was false prophecy and now 95% abandoned.

Emery "... couldn't any church, organization, or religion make a similar claim?"
Sure. I'm just saying that you can show a Witness whatever you want, facts pretty much don't matter because the Organization has been so effective at conditioning the follower to accept that they are God's Organization.

There is always a way around logic with the Organization and it's followers.
How many were preaching doesn't matter.
What was being preached doesn't matter (at least not the biggest factor).
What does matter is that Jesus selected the organization because of heart condition, willingness to be as moist clay to be molded, willingness to feed the sheep and teach, willingness to make adjustments.

How can we be sure the Bible has not been changed?
by Doug Mason inat page 63 of its book, reasoning from the scriptures, the watchtower society poses the question: how can we be sure the bible has not been changed?.
the reasoning book opens its response with a citation from a book written in 1929: the bible from the beginning by p. marion simms.. i have prepared a study that examines whether the reasoning from the scriptures book accurately presents the position presented by simms in his book.. http://www.jwstudies.com/we_can_be_sure.pdf.
does simm's book really say that we can be sure the bible has not been changed?.

CD or copied WT article when reverse-witnessing?
by NeverKnew inso, a couple of weekends ago, i, a non-jw, went to my non-jw cousin's house and lo and behold, two witnesses showed up.
amongst the many random topics, the mediatorship of jesus came up.
i stated, "...now, in your faith, jesus is not your mediator, correct?
-

For the majority of Witnesses, Jesus' mediatorship, like most anything the rank and file doesn't quite grasp, just nods and agrees after the explanation is given.
Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant
the new covenant is for a kingdom
the 144,000 are invited to be a part of that kingdom covenant and rule as kings and priests
Jesus is mediator to the 144,000, the anointed class
however, all mankind can benefit from this covenant
Jesus sacrificial death applies to all who exercise faith
the blessings will flow to mankind through this kingdom
.... when explained to a JW, even though they may think they believe Jesus is their mediator before the explanation, because they are already indoctrinated into the two tier anointed/little flock and the great crowd teaching, most will accept the explanation as making sense (at least this has been my experience)
