i’ve not been paying close attention to watchtower developments, but talking to a jw yesterday it occurred to me the society (yes, still use that term - old school) have been sending out mixed messages in recent years.

from what i gather, a few years ago the gb announced that during the great tribulation jws would be required to preach a “hailstone message of judgement” which involved telling people it was too late for them to repent and they were definitely going to be destroyed.

there were hints that this could be very soon, “any day now” preaching could stop and the hailstone message come in, kind of thing.

You are pointing out an obvious contradiction.

If you look at those two new watchtower articles and some others we had in the past about being judged on their sins in the new world and not before Armageddon. Maybe they are saying pretty much everyone will make it into paradise then judged in the new world?

I don’t think they thought this new light through much at all. They are digging themselves in a hole and the more new light the deeper they get.

Maybe they are saying that the Great War of Armageddon will only kill the really bad people, those who would not have gotten a resurrection anyway?

But they would have to have been really really bad as they hint at even those in Sodom and Gomorrah and those pre flood may be resurrected.

So maybe Armageddon will not kill that many people after all according to the new light?

They do seem to be saying that people alive at Armageddon have as good a chance of surviving as the billions who died beforehand. If they really mean that then it would mean billions surviving. Does that make any sense in view of everything else they teach about God and salvation? No, it doesn’t seem to make sense at all. But that is to state the problem, not to solve it.

It’s not they seem to be saying it, they are definitely saying it. there is no ambiguity in what they are saying here.

Unrighteous ones have the same chance of being in paradise if they died beforehand or not.

It is clear they are saying there is no difference between those alive at Armageddon to everyone who has died throughout all of history. This is very very clearly the new light,

it is stupid new light, but it is definitely what they say. The earth is no way large enough for billions to survive Armageddon and then for many more billions to be resurrected.

The gay guy, who they have previously pictured as being denied boarding on the plane at Armageddon because of his baggage (not his heart condition), is the same guy that would have been resurrected had he died before. He’s the one that they said would possibly be given 100 years to make over his mind.

Yes this was Steven Letts nephew. He killed himself because he was not attracted to females and he just couldn’t cope with the JWs shunning and shaming him.

So he will be resurrected and maybe given 100 years or something during the 1000 year reign.

The new light is there is no difference when a person dies or doesn’t die. So they are clearly saying he will not be destroyed at Armageddon but will be given a 100 years in the 1000 year reign to slowly come to perfection or whatever they teach.

Notsure what you say there is not what the new light is. You are speaking as if there is a difference between those who died through history to those still alive at Armageddon. The new light is there is no difference

The new light is clear.

Presumably for them to survive the end of the thousand years they would need to convert and not follow Satan in the final rebellion, so billions could still end up being destroyed then

yes this is probably the point. Billions will survive Armageddon and even more billions will be resurrected, but the thousand years will decide who will get everlasting life.

You know the interesting thing here we are having a far more meaningful and deep spiritual discussion than the average JDub🤣🤣

I wonder how many are thinking deeply about this new light and studying the scriptures? I suspect most don’t even think about it and it went straight over their heads

Up until this new light the belief was pretty much everyone who ever died would be resurrected unless they were really really bad?

please correct me if I’m wrong but is that what everyone else remembers?

now they are saying it’s the same if you died beforehand or are alive at Armageddon

I want everyone still physically in to comment at that Sundays Watchtower and say “ as the paragraph says a person’s eternal future does not depend on when he happens to die, so our unrighteous loved ones have the same chance of being in paradise with us if they are alive at Armageddon as all those who have died and the Bible promises will be reserected

this does of course mean that there is no point telling them they haven’t got much time left as it makes no difference 🤣😭

Elderly and sick: Out of sight, out of mind

someone else posted something a similar experience, this is one i had regarding my mom.my mom died last year.

she had been in failing health for years, but the last 2 year were pretty rough for her, with lots of visits to the hospital.

the last 4 months, it was the hospital, a skilled nursing facility/rehab unit, and finally, a nursing home.

I wish the CO had some funds available from Borg or something. It’s all very well the CO telling the elders to organise rota’s and assign different ones to look after older ones. But are younger members of the congregation supposed to do this for free?

what happens in practice is that those older ones who have money pay younger ones £30 hour to come round and clean and look after them.

those who pioneered for years or for whatever reason have little money can’t pay for care. Who should pay for this?

the org has hundreds of millions to look after old bethelites but if not in bethel you are out in the cold literally

on a recent Bethel tour around Chelmsford the tour guide made a really big deal out of the precious older ones and how Jehovah values them, he makes sure they get the best care. This is only true of older ones in Bethel ones outside not so much

Take this faithful old sister who has a son who is a drug addict. He is most definitely unrighteous and can’t kick the habit.

She used to hope he died before Armageddon so he would be in paradise. If he didn’t die he would not be in paradise as he would be killed at Armageddon.

But the new light is it makes no difference if he died before or was alive at Armageddon. Unrighteous ones have the same chance of being in paradise if they died beforehand or not.

Going by this new light BILLIONS now living will never die😂😭
