I knew the WT was a cult, and that the bible is crap, but I was giving the top DC talks, elders school talks, the Memorials, Funeral, yada yada yada.
Being a great motivational speaker (though I completely morphed my talks to be about love as much as possible), kept me in longer than I should have been.
It's like Crack, you get hooked, and kept in line to do what ever the WT asks.

How many times did we hear "a friend of a friend" has this occasion happen to them where a JW woman called on a rapists door but he left her alone because he (allegedly) saw "two big men standing with her" who were "obviously" angels?
MY FATHERINLAW ELDER told this OVER AND OVER!
I would ask him - so how did the sisters find out he was a Rapist?
And did the Rapist tell the Police - oh there were these 2 women at my door but I DID NOT Rape them cuz there were 2 men next to them?
Did the Rapist confess to OTHER things he NEVER DID?

How about how Johnny Carson had John Denver on who said something bad about JWs and then Carson said you dont like JWs - well my camera man is one, and this guy is one and this guy is one, and told Denver to leave.

Every hear the one about a Kid skipping a evening meeting playing sick - and instead went out (to do something unchristian of course) and then getting into a car accident.
He hit his parents car - and depending on who tells it - the kid dies - or the parents do.
See you should always go to meetings.

MY "Experience" BS Detector woke up before I did.
I know of MANY assembly and yearbook experiences that were ALL BS.
I even experienced it myself.
I have given many District Assembly Talks, and my last one had an interview about "coming into the truth" (i cringe using that word.
So I had someone I studied with who had a "great" experience that fit perfectly into the instructions.
I had to send the CO the experience as it would be spoken for pre approval. (there was a rehearsal snafu).
The CO called me up and ordered me to make changes to this person's REAL experience.
He wanted things cut out and things added, and I was told, this is the way it needs to be.
The "brother" was so saddened when I told him. I let him know if he didnt want to do it, it was fine with me.
He wound up doing up, but on Stage with 4K people watching, he was as animated and excited as a stalk of celery. And I didnt blame him one bit.

Not training speakers/teachers any more?

not having attended any meetings since about 2001, for reasons of safety (sounds a bit dramatic but i don't like my wife being out on her own late at night where we live now), i have started accompanying her to the mid-week meeting.. when i was young, the ministry school and service meeting were central to training brothers to take the lead.

you were assigned instruction talks, then if you cut it, you moved pretty rapidly to public talks - a full 55 mins at the time.

i was just 18 years old when i gave my first public talk and this was a first step to moving rapidly through the ranks.

Iownmylife - that was not the experience in any hall I went to.
Sisters did the bulk of the answering.
Elders would always be talking about how to get brothers to answer more, including Elders.
The sisters walk a fine line between getting in trouble for not answering enough, or at all, and getting in trouble for answering too much.
