  You can't please all the people all the time

  this is about running the forum:.

  it's a balancing act.

  it is impossible to please everyone all the time and i don't go out of my way to try to please anyone ... i just do what i think is right.. some good examples are controversial topics: if i lock or delete something that is controversial then i am accused of "stiffling free speech".

  New to board-1st post

  my last attempts at posting were to no avail so i'm just going to test this out first and they edit and post something else.-it worked.. i have been reading a lot of the material on this website and find most of it interesting.

  i'm still a witness but have some questions about bible/doctrine that haven't been answered to my satisfaction.

  it seems that when i discuss things with people (i.e witness elders) they more or less don't listen to my arguements.

  Hi Farkel

  I know you probably won't believe me, but when I read your post mentioning the "baleen-eating whales" I knew something was not quite right but I couldn't put my finger on it. It was like my Fortran compiler got one of those errors that get posted at the end of the porgram listing that says "Variable may be used before being assigned a value". Great - but what variable??

  Anyway I did the Google and posted the response, more for my edification than anyone else's.

  Harley Miller Died

  i heard from my mom that harley miller died in california -- apparently -- today.

  i understand he had gone there for a pacemaker, but died before he could get it.. he had an article in the wt or awake 10 -12 years ago.

  although i didn't know him, he sounded like a pretty decent fellow.. fp

  For clarification and edification:

  Baleen is a sieve-like device that Mysticeti (baleen whales) use to obtain nourishment ( krill , plankton , and other small organisms). Baleen is a series of stiff, flexible material that hang from the upper jaw. The inside of the baleen is edged with hairy plates that filter krill. Baleen is made of keratin (the same substance our fingernails and hair are made of). Baleen grows throughout a whale's life. The ends of a whales baleen are always wearing out.

  I think that was a pretty good comeback by our friend Mr Guard. Of course I wasn't on the receiving end of it but it made me chuckle nevertheless - it was suave and elegant with just a nice edge of cutting sarcasm. I rated it quite highly.....

  been away from organization for a while now, yet?.

  i found this site accidently i guess.

  i have been away from the truth for a while now...6 years... yet it always permeates my mind somehow and i fear the events happening in the world, and wonder.... i guess my problem was that i hated going out door to door as a child.. somehow i hated invading other people's privacy and felt wrong somehow, or embarrased, or just plain hated it period.

  i think that is the biggest thing that keeps me away from ever returning.. somehow i, in my small mind cannot understand why small children should do such a thing until they are old enough to at least have a say in it.. like an opinion??

  Hi newbies,

  I am an inactive JW but not DA'd or DF'd. My mum is 85 and she has been an active witness since 1942 or something like that. I would agree it makes no sense for Mum to leave the truth, she has stuck with all these years and her mind is simply made up.

  I drifted away more than 10 years ago, I just couldn't be bothered going anymore. I would miss meetings for months, get the energy and attend again, and I saw "Same old crap, different day". I got awfully tired of the word "SOON". I cannot stand now to read this word, it appears hundreds of thousands of times in the magazines, and in every issue of the WT. My point is IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THE END IS COMING, THEN DON'T SAY ITS SOON!!!! Thats a lie and simply downright manipulative.

  So I decided to be true to myself; anyway the bible says everyone must stand on his own two feet before Jehovah, and if I knowingly go along to meetings out of fear of man while my conscience is telling me Somethings wrong here, then do you think Jehovah will excuse me?

  In the words of the Bard :

  "Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin'
  But I'll know my song well before I start singin"
